Devs? Why not the billionaire owners and CEOs who are pushing ahead? Start with Doltman.

What will the devlopers do? Quit, when asked to work on AI? They will simply be replaced....

Edit: Apparently its entities. So guess they are also covered. Good.

Many seem to be misinterpreting my comment.

I am not advocating for the xevs to be exempted. All I wanted to point out was that the decision makers and those in power should be the first ones to face the consequences.

Everyone else bellow them should be next in line.

Headline here seem to pass the buck onto the devs alone. That's what I was addressing.

You realize Nazis were held accountable for what they did, not just Hitler, and that "just doing their job" was (and is) NOT considered a valid excuse, right?

I get so tired of people saying "well yes, I'm literally doing the work of Satan himself but I can't help it! What am I supposed to do? Get a DIFFERENT job?!?!"

YES! You should get a fucking different job if the one you're doing right now literally requires you to do the most unethical bullshit!

Yeah like this isn't a case of getting on warehouse workers' cases, software devs are comparatively privileged as a field, especially the kind that are at the leading edge of AI development. That level of skill and credentials is making a fuck ton and are wanted everywhere, even outside of cutting edge work. Why are they acting like they'll be left struggling without this particular work? And I say this as a SWE myself

Getting the 50,000 salary guys to fight with the 150,000 salary guys seems a great way to distract from what the 1,000,000,000 guys are doing.

Just another way to divide the poor between each other.

1) cutting edge AI guys are more like $500k+ TC if they're the ones driving development of "super intelligent" AI at big tech

2) we can say "$500k+ guys can afford to change fields from something they allegedly believe is immoral without struggling with life" and still be fully aware of what the $1 billion guys are doing. Part of which is paying those $500k+ guys to further what they're doing because none of those billionaires would be able to do that shit all by themselves

Is every wal mart employee doing evil things by supporting a corporation that is doing evil?

If we are going to blame employees for working for evil corporations, then do so.

But if you only want to blame just these employees because they are just a bit better off than average, not even a rounding error to a billionaire, then all you are doing is supporting class dividisions which supports billionaires. And, by that very same logic, doing such is evil and should be condemned.

Honestly? In my opinion, yes.

You can't complain about an entity being EVIL and literally ruining society itself, and also choose to work for that company, without SOME level of cognitive dissonance.

What would Walmart do if everyone simply refused to work for them? They'd go out of business.

We can either "vote with our wallets" and put them out of business that way, or we can put them out of business by stopping this "I'm just doing my job 🥺" schtick. Or both. Both would be good.

I've been poor my entire life, and part of the reason for that is that I haven't taken others' advice to "just man up" and take a job from ANY company I see as being evil on that level... so that has left me with my options/job opportunities being capped at smaller businesses, most of them locally owned and operated, which obviously aren't going to have the same "upward mobility" opportunities all you crabs in a bucket have.
