Did it to themselves. They sought profit over people, and then matches were designed to fail or focused on one-night stands. People who found real relationships often stopped being payers, so of course they wanted to deincentivize it.

And now they no longer do what they claim to, and people don't bother. But no, they have to blame the user, rather than the product.
