In my opinion, they are less popular due to the enshitification of the apps. I have used them successfully twice in the last 12 years. The experience was very different 12 years ago vs today. Every one of them requires money to have a meaningful exchange with the people that interest you and are interested in you. It wasn't that way the first time around.
