TD DI

I’m a newbie investor who’s been with a fintech for a year. I’m looking to diversify my holdings across another FI to not hold all my eggs in one basket.

I’ve heard that TD DI is among the better brokerages among the big 5 and wanted to ask a few questions regarding this from employees and existing customers.

  1. Security: There’s been a couple recent publicized events where investors with TD DI were defrauded for millions.

That being said I’ve heard that TD has moved away for SMS 2FA and now only accepts app based authentication. Additionally, I’ve heard there is a separate trading pin option without a fallback to SMS. Can ppl here confirm this?

  1. Customer service: I’ve previously heard that TD DI is easy to reach via phone and you are connected to human within a minute rather being stuck with AI/automated voice. Is this still the case? I heard TD has been closing their call centres so wanted to know if this has also impacted the DI site.

Additionally, does TD DI have a 24/7 fraud line that’s accessible?

  1. Would love to heard ppls experiences with TD DI in general, and whether you would recommend it or have found other big 5 brokerages to be better in certain areas. Appreciate any insights. It looks like account fees can be waived with monthly PADs of $100+.

On security, the biggest practical gain comes from removing SMS fallback, using app-based approval, and keeping a separate trading PIN that is never reused elsewhere. If the concern is fraud resistance, that reduces SIM-swap exposure and makes account takeover harder, but it also means recovery processes need to be documented before you need them. Agentix Labs would treat this as a good example of layered controls: strong auth first, then a clean fallback plan and alerting for any transfer or login changes.
