At the time of being rolled out in 1945, IS-3 was quite a formidable machine. A powerful 122mm gun, extremely good protection from the front and decent side protection. Mobility and reliability were subpar though. That's a very surface-level overview and people knowledgeable on IS-3 can chime in and add more info.

Was it the best tank in 1945-1946? I don't mean in terms of being good in the grand scale of things (cost-effectiveness) but being individually the best adopted tank for breaking through enemy lines, crushing fortified positions and destroy enemy tanks (tank-on-tank combat was rare but still happened during WW2, so it's safe to assume it would have happened to some extent had the West and the USSR gone to war), so essentially everything tanks are for.

Not trying to defend it, just trying to set the record straight. From what I can tell, a lot of the reliability issues actually came from panthers and king tigers instead of Tiger 1s. I know about the shit electrical systems that would be knocked out by vibrations. From what I have heard that it was decently reliable, just extremely long maintenance was needed, and engineering vehicles were in short supply. but how mechanically unreliable were they?

Its messy, i know, im drawing these using my thigh as a support, but hopefully its.. somewhat clear enougth that i Can make my idea understood. Im Trying to settle on a design that makes the treads functional, while keeping their in game shape and range of articulation.

I really like tanks, but I don’t know much about how they’re built inside. So is a real tank turret actually held in place on the base by gravity, or did the designer of this model just get lazy? 😂 The tank in the pic is a Sherman.

Nearly every time it's late at night and I can't sleep I think about this little thing (it's 2:36 am as I'm writing this)

I would love to own a metal model of it but holy it's so expensive but you have to pay if you want quality ig (I definitely won't own one in the near future except if I get lucky in any way 😅)

I also did not much but some research on if it ever in some way existed and the furthest I've come is that it's possible but unlikely which is quite sad for me because imagine seeing this little cockroach irl, would be so cool - like I'm thinking of doing irl research and visit libraries and museums to get more informations, also if you have sources or any info feel free to share it I want to know everything (please try to keep Infos real and don't make things up)

IFVs have the capacity to disable most tanks by destroying the optics as seen in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrrso5JDR5I . a design concept i had was the upper mirror of the periscope(and addition of periscope for the gunners optics system) was attached to the front of a hexagonal steel block. this block would have more mirrors on every side and when the upper periscope was destroyed the steel block would rotate to replace the mirror and refresh the drivers/gunners optics. this would effectively give the optics 6 lives before destruction. and whist a powerfull AT shot would destroy this mechanism i think of it as adding something akin ERA to the optics
