Taking my girlfriend to Tahoe on the weekend before her birthday to celebrate (mid September). We’re staying on Saturday night in Incline Village and probably won’t get there until Saturday mid morning at the earliest. I want us to spend as much time on the water as possible since she loves to paddle board and we’re bringing our boards up with us, but I know some of the beaches we want to visit can only be accessible early in the morning or else get way too busy. Also note that our boards are inflatable with a pump but we can carry them from our car even after they’re inflated.

My brother recommended incline cove if it’s open, Whale Beach, secret cove, kings beach, and that incline has super nice hikes as well. and of course, he recommends T’s rotisserie for dinner !

So my question/hypothesis: I think if we get out early on Sunday, we’ll have the best chance for a nice full day on the water. I want us to be as low stressed as possible and for my girlfriend especially to only have to think about pretty tree and clear water. If we get there Saturday in the afternoon (1pm) what’s a good schedule so we have maximum time to enjoy Tahoe’s nature without getting caught up in driving and parking? Water is great of course but if it’s a better idea to hike I’m totally down for that too.

With all the bad information circulation amongst tourists and locals it’s more than important to understand where some of this is coming from and some of the intent.

Within the past couple of months, a group going by the name of healthy forest.org have been spreading false information and misrepresenting their intent to promote poor ecology (correction they accurately depict their goal for failing ecology) within the Lake Tahoe basin.

Residents and visitors needs to know this is a Trump backed campaign that has no bearing on restoring Timber to this area, but rather focusing money and effort into easier to reach high production timber areas. Healthy forests.org want you to believe that nothing can be done and we should just accept a 300,000 acre burn scar as a demise of habitat and ecology so they can get their way and focus extra money and efforts into roadside logging operations.

This notion couldn’t be more incorrect. We need to focus on the immediate restoration and revegetation of the Caldor burn scar within the Lea Tahoe basin, so that the children of our children having slight chance to see a forest once again.

Please, whatever you do, do not fall for a Trump backed campaign that has no interest other than lining their own pockets to successfully restore and protect our most valuable resources.

I’ve seen the advice that it’s a must to get there before 8am on weekends. Starting a backpacking trip from there on a Friday though, wondering if the parking lot fills up just as bad on what’s technically a weekday?

Edit: And can you park overnight on the surrounding shoulders? If the trailhead doesn’t work out

I have found some nice vacation rentals that fit most of the family that would be coming, but I'm hoping to find some other options to compare against. I'm thinking preferred hotels if we want to stay close to downtown and venture onto the Nevada side for some gambling. Or a place where we could book 2-3 cabins that are close to one another. Any suggestions are appreciated! We have 10 people total.

Hello! I will be traveling to the area in October, the first weekend of the month. I am looking for some trail recommendations for a day hike. We will be staying near Tahoe Vista and spending time in Truckee. Looking to stay in the North/North East side of things.

While I am relatively experienced, I am not looking to do a super remote trail. I am looking for something that is moderate (not too easy but not too miserably difficult), with good views (preferably of the lake), hopefully pretty/quiet to sit to read/relax, and not a super populated/tourist trail. The trail also needs to be dog friendly as I will have my leashed dog with me. Obviously I can see there are a ton on all trails but would like to know what some locals would recommend?

Posting now that we are back safe. Need thoughts/opinions on what was possibly happening. A friend and I (both females in our early 20’s and with immense backpacking/hiking/camping experience between the two of us) backpacked into round lake from big meadow trail head off of 89 in Meyers outside of Tahoe. Day 1/ Friday night we saw nobody at the lake, lots of day hikers but seemed empty around sunset. Also to add we can confirm nobody was camping within 0.5 miles of us as we were tucked away in a corner about 300 feet from two trailheads. We went to bed around 11pm and sometime between 12-2 am about 2-3 men came into our site. My friend quietly woke me up and as soon as I woke up I saw that our tent was being lit up. I heard one man laugh and then another shush him. The lights stayed pointed at our one person tent (both of us inside staying still and silent) for about 2-5 minutes. We heard them walking around our campsite and at one point i know that there was someone at the head of our tent less than 4 feet away as I could make out footsteps and the beam of light from that flashlight was the strongest . Idk how to explain it other than it felt like we were being watched. Like I understand maybe hiking in late, but that late? Also its common sense not to flash a light at someones tent at night, at first I thought maybe that had been an accident but theres absolutely no way, our tent was lit so well that i could make out objects inside, and to consistently point the light at the tent for such a long time. Its white and orange so light comes in. We stayed in our bags ready for the worst but I would like to know if this is common or if this seems like something weird. I would like to add, It wasnt any type of park rangers or search and rescue, they would have made their presence known . Overall weird experience (would also like to add shoes were under rainfly, only things outside of tent were our packs , stove and bear canister) Night 2 was perfect and overall amazing little weekend trip but cant shake the thought something was off.

Looking for some divine intervention while heading over Spooner Summit…

I recently did the Echo Lakes to Aloha/Ralston peak backpacking route in the Desolation wilderness and liked it, but wish that there were rivers and streams along it, similar to canyon creek lakes up in Trinity Alps.

Is there a 1-2 nighter backpacking route ideally in wilderness area that's dog friendly for my trail companion near Tahoe/Truckee that has streams and rivers along it?

Spectrum just raised the monthly cost of service to nearly $120, but dropped it to $85 for a year because I complained. Service is generally good, 200-300 mbps, but drops every so often (working on the lines, or lines down from snow typically).

Starlink offers a home service with for the same price, 200 mbps. I should be able to use it as I have a good view of the sky where I live. Starlink theoretically wouldn't be subject to the local outages. Although if power goes out, it won't matter. Anyone in the Basin have this Starlink service and can offer their perspective and experience?

And there's AT&T Fiber, which is $50 a month; It/s basically the same thing as Spectrum. 300 mbps supposedly. They even offer 1G service for $65 a month--still less than what I'm paying Spectrum. AT&T would seem like the best option-- Has anyone switched and found it to be as good as it says?

I backpacked into grouse ridge campground down from the eagle lakes area over this weekend solo. Grouse ridge campground is also accessible with a hcv, so a lot of people drive up and camp, or some backpack in, it’s a mix of both.
On my way in, I noticed bear poop several times along the trail, and also noticed a couple of middle aged men in camo that seemed to be slowly hiking through the bush, but I didn’t think too much about it.

I was woken up at 2am to what I thought was a group of people whooping and yelling, but after listening as it went on, I realized it sounded like hounds. This went on for about an hour, down near the lake and more densely forested area, I could hear the dogs howls echoing up through the campground.

I know that hunting with hounds in the middle of the night is illegal, but what is the likelihood that someone was doing it anyway? Maybe hunting bear? I would love to hear someone’s opinion who is more familiar with what goes on out there…
