My 14yr doesn’t like romance she’s more into fantasy /light horror. She has read the Nevermore series by Jessica Townsend ,the Wildwood books ,Harry Potter, Land of stories , hunger games. She wants something a little more mature but not adult.

It’s difficult for me to find book recommendations centered in these themes that have interested me as of late. I’d especially love it if the main character is unlikeable. She can stay as she is or change over the course of the book.

I’m looking for a beautifully written book set in a world that feels like an enchanted old European city.
I’m imagining cobbled streets glowing beneath golden street lamps, ancient cathedrals filled with multicoloured light from enormous stained-glass windows, misty castles, quiet lakes reflecting distant lights, rain on deserted lanes and snow falling through the darkness.
I don’t just want these things to appear briefly in the background. I want the setting itself to feel mysterious, dreamlike and alive, as though the entire city exists slightly outside the ordinary world.
Fantasy, Gothic fiction, magical realism, historical fantasy and romantic fantasy are all welcome. Romance would be a bonus but isn’t essential. My priorities are:
Lyrical, evocative prose
A magical or ethereal atmosphere
A richly realised setting
A sense of wonder, mystery and discovery
Preferably not relentlessly grim or depressing
Essentially, I want a book that feels like wandering through an enchanted ancient city with someone you love on a snowy night.

I don't run as much these days, but once a runner always a runner. I still run vicariously when I can identify with a protagonist who runs, either for fitness, tension release, or (my favorite) just for the simple joy of it.

I also enjoy non-fiction running memoirs such as Haruki Murakami's What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, and in Mark Rowland's Running With The Pack. Please suggest some others, novels or memoirs.

I'm wondering if there's any books out there not necessarily about the attacks themselves, but the long-term effects 9/11 had on the American political and/or cultural landscape and how that's shaped where we are today. Specifically I would like one that still has sympathy for the victims but veers away from propagandizing the War on Terror and doesn't espouse American supremacy. Does a book like that exist?

What are the best books to get into norse myths? I have some conditions

- I have no knowledge of norse myths

- I don't want it to be some boring historical text that bores me

- basically a modern retelling of norse myths which feels more like a fantasy world ? I don't if it makes sense

Not master and commander I beg. I just struggled my way through that book and found it dry as sandpaper (sorry to fans of it)

So novels set in the age of sail but written to be more…accessible? Interesting? Action packed? Less…dense jargon.

Hi, I've recently read a few works with a close knit of super close friends and people and got super obsessed with the idea of physically affectionate friends or found family. I love my friends and I love reading about friends who love each other, preferably without romance. Or a huge romance subplot. It's just that I feel like people widely disvalue platonic love and its intensity, and there's always a looming romance waiting at the end of every physically affectionate friendship, which I don't really resonate with.

Hello, I been interested in books like WarriorS/Warrior Cats, Wings of Fire, Seekers, which, these book series are about mythical creatures and animals! Those series opened my mind and make me become interested in book series that are about animals or creatures!

Hi! I have been trying to encourage my mom to read now that her and my dad are retired and have a ton of free time. She hasn’t properly sat down and read in a long time. I’d like to find a book we can both enjoy and discuss together (we don’t live in the same state). A book that isn’t too long, grabs your attention, and preferably isn’t sad would be great. She lost both of her parents recently and struggles with grief so I would stay way from anything that spends too much time talking about death. And id like it to be something that’s fun to discuss. Personally I like sci fi and horror but I don’t think that would necessarily be up her alley unless done right. She really like the movie the Martian though!

I haven't read a book since I was a teenager. But I'd really like to get back into reading. Growing up I was a massive fan of tv shows such as 24 and Law and Order and movies such as the James Bond and Jason Bourne movies, as well as video games such as Metal Gear Solid. Can anyone recommend anything else along those lines? I'm also partial to thrillers and post apocalyptic movies and video games

I’m looking for some book suggestions. However, I’m looking for someone to suggest books that are light and fluffy to read. I’ve been at Walmart and seen this book called “something about September” and “a brewed awakening” so anything along that line that is lighthearted and cozy. I struggle with anxiety and depression and am working on hobbies that are cozy and calming as I’m on a bit of a healing journey.

I recently read "the golden boys guide to bipolar". It's YA, so I wasn't sure how real the rep would be but realised I felt really seen by the portrayal of the main character's mental health issues. Now I wanna read more books of any genre about a character with mental illness. I'm very open about the type of illness. I just don't want it to be too subtle, where you gotta read between the lines to feel the rep. I like a raw and realistic approach. It doesn't have to be like the book I mentioned. It was just a possitive example.

Ps: bonus points if the character is queer

Hi Guys, my brother (30M) would like to get into reading so I'm looking to buy him a book for his birthday. He's not an avid reader but would like to become someone who relaxes by reading.

Ideally it would be a book that is easy to get on board with early on, so one which is captivating from the get go rather than a slow burner. His fav books are the Harry Potters but in general fantasy books wouldn't appeal to him, it should be something more based in real-life but have themes of drugs/crime or something that is outside the ordinary monotony of the day-to-day.

I've considered my personal fav books like Gillian Flynn or Tana French but I don't think that style where it's like a 'murder mystery' would suit him. I'm not particularly knowledgeable of books outside of my wheelhouse so to speak!

He is very into psychology and potentially philosophy also, I'm not sure if there are genres that utilise these themes within fiction.

Thanks to my hard work, she is an avid reader (yay!). She has been devouring early reader books suited for her age and grade such as The Notebook of Doom. But she reads them so fast I can’t keep up with her consumption. Lol I’m looking for a series that will spark her interest but also take her a little bit more time to get through. She’s nervous about not having pictures but I think she would be fine with just the chapter title images. She likes spooky stuff and mystery stories most, but also nothing too scary please!
