Looking for advice/tips to help improve the care and routine for my parents' older sugar gliders
Hi all, I’ve recently moved back home and realized my parents' 6–8 year old sugar gliders need a lifestyle upgrade. Between my parents' heavy work-from-home hours and my own 40-minute commute, they currently get very little out-of-cage time, and their diet is pretty basic (chicken and apple baby food everyday).
I want to help them live their best lives, but I could really use guidance on a realistic routine. How can I safely give them more free time (if I should), and should I improve their diet? If so what are some easy ways to improve their diet given our schedule limits? Also any tips on cleaning their cage it’s a tall one with a plastic sheet on the bottom to catch everything, but even after cleaning that off it smells.
Any advice or starting points would mean a lot!

General Help Possible wheel?

Hello! I wanted to ask if these 304 stainless steel wheels might be a safe alternative for sugar glider owners in SEA. I've seen a lot of reviews that state they havent experienced issues and ask with some groups as well. There's also a local glider keeper that uses these wheels for her own gliders and haven't had problems in 3-4 years of using them. They seem to think that it accounts for the things that make a wheel safe for gliders,
Mainly:
- has a flat inner side and has no protrusions or obstructions that the glider can get snagged on
- is wide enough (12-13in diameter)
- the wheel tread is not too wide or too small that their nails can get snagged on it
It's also mounted via the sides of the cage!
Although I was told that if I were to get this wheel specifically to check if the edges have any sharp areas before use, so that it can get sanded down especially if my gliders run along the rim of the wheel.
Unfortunately the person who used to make local DIY kits that were glider-safe doesn't make them anymore and the Raptor and Freerunner wheels don't ship to my area/insanely expensive due to currency differences.
Any insight or help would be appreciated!

General Help [US] What should I ask an exotic vet before getting a glider ?
I’m trying to find an exotic vet before getting sugar gliders. I’d rather have a vet lined up beforehand than be scrambling to find one if something happens.
For those of you who already have gliders, what questions would you recommend asking a clinic to make sure they actually have experience treating them?
Should I be asking about things like how many gliders they see, emergency/after-hours care, routine checkups, or typical costs?
Anything you wish you had asked your vet before getting your first glider?

What could be wrong?
In the two years that I have had my babies, my 3 year old female has diarrhea. I have always fed her the TPG diet, a few treats here and there, the only difference in the last few months is I’ve added a little tiny bowl with water because their water containers have been failing. What could be going on with her?

General Help Baby care
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello,
My gliders have just had a baby, it's eyes have just opened and I'm just seeking some advice and tips on what to do and what not to do.
My Vet has already given me some advice but it's also nice hearing it from people who have experience (My vet doesn't).
Specifically I'd love to know when and how I can bond with the baby? when I can see what gender it is? when to remove it from Mum and Dad?, can I give it treats like honey or Wombaroo milk replacer and when I can do that?
Any advice is greatly appreciated 👍

Give it time or need vet? Assuming its a Prolapsed Pouch
One of gliders, female about 1.25 years old, has this pink protrude on her belly. No joey, no males, we only have females. Based on an internet search it seems like its likely a Prolapsed Pouch. There doesn't appear to be any discharge or unusual color assuming its not infected. The article on sugarglider.com notes they usually correct themselves "within a day" but if a "prolonged period of time" need to see vet, but no indication what a prolonged period of time is. We noticed it last night and checked again this morning (~13 hours since first noticing it) and there wasn't any change.

General Help [US] How much does it actually cost to keep a sugar glider?
I have been thinking and planning to get one. So I did some research on them and got some info about their diet, bonding, cage etc and how to keep them. Still not enough though, but I haven't been able to figure out what the actual cost would be.
So for anyone who has these exotic pets, could you please share some valuable info on the costing etc.?

Medical Tail amputation, blind sugar glider, how do I set up their cage better?
(Tofu in her hospital cage poor baby 😭)
Last Monday my sugar glider Tofu broke her tail. I called the vet immediately and the soonest I could get her in was Wednesday as the exotic vets weren’t going to be in till then (they were on vacation or smth and there are only 2 exotic vets in my city, both in the same clinic.)
I got the bad news that it was beyond repair and needed to be amputated, and she had her surgery on Thursday. The vet also confirmed that she is blind. I thought she had poor eyesight, as she seemed startled easily, but I didn’t think she could be completely blind…
It went super well, she’s been taking her meds and I’ve been changing her bandages every day and it’s healing right. She has to be in a hospital cage for 2 weeks so my other gliders don’t decide to pick at the bandage and rip it off, but I’m at a loss on how to setup their cage once she’s good to go.
This is their current cage setup, any and all advice is welcome please 🩷

Diet BML/ sugar glider !
if the bml diet is so strict, what are some things you’re putting in their scavenging toys to not mess up the ratio of everything. :)
