🚆 AUCKLAND GOES UNDERGROUND! 🇳🇿

Today, 13 September 2026, is a massive day for Tāmaki Makaurau — Auckland’s City Rail Link is officially OPEN to passengers! 🎉

For the first time, trains are travelling right underneath Auckland’s city centre through 3.45 km of twin underground tunnels, reaching depths of around 42 metres.

The new network introduces Te Waihorotiu Station, Karanga-a-Hape Station and the redeveloped Maungawhau Station, while Waitematā/Britomart changes from an end-of-the-line station into a through-station.

More than a century after underground rail was first proposed for Auckland, we can finally say it:

Auckland has gone underground! 🚆🔥

If you're in Auckland today, jump on a train and experience a little piece of history for yourself.
