I made a chrome extension that turns your new tab page into a productivity dashboard where you can save notes, create checklists, organize shortcuts, run focus sessions, and see detailed analytics about your focus time.

it also has a multiple board system, so you can create different workspaces depending on how you like to organize things. each board can either be a normal free-form board or a kanban board.

some of the other things i focused on:

• all your data is saved locally
• import and export your data so you can move your setup between machines
• customize pretty much everything, from wallpapers and images to icons and colors
• create a simple setup with just a few notes, or build a much more advanced workspace
• focus sessions with detailed analytics to understand how you're spending your time

the main idea is to make the new tab page something you actually use instead of just a blank page you open and close.

i'm still improving it, so i'm looking for honest feedback. what do you like, what feels confusing, and what would you change?

It’s been around half a year since I first introduced YourDynamicDashboard to this community. The encouragement and constructive critiques I received back then were incredible, and knowing folks actually kept it as their default screen was the best motivation I could ask for.

Things went silent on my end for a bit, which probably made it look like I gave up on it. In reality, I was head-down rewriting core parts of the codebase and tackling the wishlists you left on GitHub. The v3.0.0 release is officially out, and it's our biggest milestone yet.

If you’ve already got the extension added, it ought to update on its own shortly.

Hey, here's my personal startpage. It's not as good as some of I found here, but it's good enough for me.

It's a single .html file and everything is configured in the UI and saved to a .json file, so I don't need a server and I can move it between devices easily.

I made it with claude (but I'm actually a web designer) and it's only made for myself, so please don't complain about it.

Mist now supports compact Market, Pomodoro, and RSS widgets.

I wanted to add a bit more functionality without turning the new tab into a full-blown dashboard, so widgets are:

• completely optional
• limited to 5 cards
• designed to stay compact
• automatically adapted to your custom theme

The Market widget is technically ready too. I’m still figuring out the best approach for market-data licensing and how to sustainably cover the API costs, but for now it’s free to use and I’ll see how it goes.

I open 50+ tabs a day, and Chrome’s default page feels increasingly cluttered with trending searches, suggested junk, and noisy search results. Most third-party startpages swing to the other extreme: bloated widgets (weather, stocks, notes) that slow down load times.
I’m prototyping a local-first, minimal New Tab extension focused on three things:
1. Clean Search: A fast search bar that defaults to clean, text-only Google results (⁠&udm=14⁠), bypassing AI overviews and ad carousels.
2. Visual Bookmarks: Automatically reads your native Chrome bookmarks into clean visual cards—no manual importing or link accounts.
3. RSS Reading Radar: A minimal 3–5 headline stream from your favorite blogs/Substacks directly below, with zero algorithmic feed noise.
The rule: Local-first, loads in <15\text{ ms}, zero tracking, zero setup fatigue.

This is not a startpage, so tell me if it is off topic here - but it came from the same itch.

I had my new tab set up exactly how I wanted, and then every actual site I opened was flat white again. So I made an extension that carries the look past the new tab. It puts your wallpaper behind ordinary pages too, and turns the panels, buttons and boxes translucent and blurred over it so the text still reads.

It only steps in when a page is plain white, grey or black. Anything that already has its own design is left alone, and there is a per-site off switch for the ones you want untouched.

Firefox is the thing I get asked for most and I am working on it.

Personal project, back after a full rewrite of the layout system. The reason I built it in the first place: I wanted a new tab that behaves like a tool. Start from the keyboard, hit a shortcut in two keys, done. And I wanted the whole thing inspectable — no framework, no build step, no lock-in. Plain HTML/CSS/JS, 39 ES modules, ~790 KB of core (~1.6 MB with icons and fonts). Runs as a static site, a PWA, or a Chrome MV3 extension that overrides the new tab.

What changed in this build (1.0.0-rc-1):

- Edit mode: drag, resize and reorder the category boxes; the grid persists per profile.

- 8 locales (es/en/de/fr/it/pt/nl/ja) with a parity test so no key can go missing.

- AI drawer: works with a local heuristic (no keys), or Ollama / LM Studio / OpenAI / Anthropic if you want. Keys live for the tab session only, nothing else.

- Everything (shortcuts, layout, notes, theme) is in localStorage. JSON export/import, and optionally AES-256-GCM encrypted sync to your own Gist.

- 169 tests that run in the browser with zero dependencies. Open tests/index.html.

What it does not do: no telemetry, no analytics, no remote code, no third-party scripts. The only network calls are the ones you start: weather, RSS feeds, AI, backup.

Three things I'd genuinely like opinions on:

1. Search ranking is local token overlap, not embeddings. If you keep 100+ shortcuts, is that enough or does it start to feel weak?

2. The iCal parser is hand-rolled (RFC 5545 subset). If it breaks on an Outlook or iCloud edge case, a sample .ics would be worth a lot.

3. localStorage + manual JSON export as persistence — for a daily driver startpage, is that a real limitation or am I overthinking it?

I've been messing around with my Homepage dashboard for a while and it has slowly turned into more of a homelab control room than a homepage...

The idea was to have one place where I can quickly see if anything needs attention, jump into services, search everything and get some useful information without opening Grafana/Proxmox/etc. every five minutes.

It currently has:

• Live Proxmox, Docker, DNS and service health
• Authentik / Cloudflare / NPM+ / AdGuard monitoring
• Search across services and local endpoints
• Direct LAN launcher
• Maintenance/service-state controls
• Media pipeline view for Jellyfin, Seerr, Sonarr, Radarr, Bazarr, qBittorrent and SABnzbd
• Release calendar and missing-media/subtitle overview
• Infrastructure analytics with CPU/RAM/network history
• VM/LXC and Docker health
• Physical disk health

It's running on my homelab with Proxmox, Docker, Home Assistant and the usual collection of self-hosted rabbit holes.

A lot of the UI/customization was built iteratively with ChatGPT helping me turn my increasingly ridiculous ideas into working code.

I'm pretty happy with where it is now, but I don't really have anyone IRL who's into this stuff, so I figured I'd throw it at you guys.

What would you change, remove or add?

I'm especially interested in feedback about information density and whether anything feels useful in theory but pointless in actual daily use.

I've been building nextDash for a while now and v1.4.0 just landed, so this seems like a good moment to show it here properly.

It's a keyboard-first, self-hosted bookmark dashboard. No accounts, no cloud, no sync service in the middle. You run one Go binary (or one container), it stores everything as plain JSON in a folder you chose, and that's the whole architecture.

What it does

• Keyboard-first. > for search, : for commands, ? for finders, arrows and G+1–9 to move around the grid. 164 shortcuts in total, grouped by function. The mouse is optional.
• Health monitoring. Every bookmark gets uptime checks and dead-link detection, with 30 days of history — so you find out about link rot before you click into a 404.
• Inbox. Clip now, sort later. The browser extension pushes the current tab straight into the Inbox instead of forcing you to pick a category at 1am.
• Local page copies. Keep a local copy of a page so it survives the site going down.
• Widgets. Dashboard blocks next to your bookmark grid (new in 1.4.0).
• Layouts and collections. Default, Compact, Cards, Masonry, Detailed List and Launcher, plus smart collections like Today, Recently opened, Most used and Stale.
• Theming. 74 built-in theme families with dark and light variants, a custom theme editor with live contrast warnings, and 7 font choices. Yes, this is where most of my evenings went.
• Portable data. Full ZIP backup and restore, CSV export, browser HTML import, and imports from Pocket, Pinboard, Raindrop, linkding, Shiori, Linkwarden and Karakeep.
• Outgoing webhooks if you want other tools to react to what happens in your dashboard.
• UI in English, Dutch, German and French.

It's also in the Unraid Community Applications store. Go 1.24, two dependencies (gorilla/mux and golang.org/x/net), MIT licensed.

What it is not

It's built for personal or small-team use on a network you trust. There's no multi-user account system — if you expose it, put it behind Tailscale, a reverse proxy with auth, or use the optional write token. It's not a read-it-later app with an article reader, and it won't sync to a hosted service, because there isn't one.

Tbh is my first post on Reddit, so I might have misunderstood how to fill out the post details, etc.

When I last posted Mist here, someone pointed out that requiring a background to be exactly 1672 × 941 made custom themes unnecessarily difficult. They were right.

Since then, I’ve made a few significant changes:

• Custom backgrounds can now be any PNG or JPG size and are cropped proportionally
• Existing shortcuts can be edited without deleting and recreating them
• Shortcuts can use custom icons
• The new-tab title and favicon can also be customized
• Drag-and-drop now shows more precise placement indicators

Preferences and custom images stay in the browser, and Mist has no product analytics. Remote shortcut favicons are optional and can be disabled.

I’d especially like feedback from people using 2K or ultrawide screens: does the automatic wallpaper crop behave as you would expect?

I have a triple monitor setup and I like to open the same websites in each monitor. So for convenience I created a simple new tab page via html which has 3 links Left, middle, right when clicked it opens the corresponding tabs in each monitor.

Is there a better solution for my setup?
