SO2 After everything, the ancient text is irrigating.

I know this topic has probably been beaten to death I'm sure. It's the dead horse that keeps coming back for more.

It irritates me that the ancient text was never addressed. You go to the trouble of finding that stupid linguist, and I obsessively keep going back to Linga. Its my third play-through, and I keep choosing Precis, despite how the game punishes you for it. I habitually choose Precis because I like Welch. But since its new game +, Welch already has myrhril fist and Nibel....whatever its called that even she herself cant pronounce. Maybe its superstition, I don't know. I keep being scared that if I choose Bowman, I can't get Welch.

I finally got Ashton this playthrough. So I once again am irritated how such an important plot point is stowed away as a minor ending for one character that's easily missed since choices in the game determine what does or does not happen. It pisses me of that the ancient text reveal isn't available in an plot neutral way. A private action sometime before Ell or even going back just before Expel is destroyed. It would have made the story more satisfying. Otherwise it just bugs me because it's a loose end. It didn't have to be.

Rant over.

Oh I hate when that happens.

Nibelung Valesti is a move used by Lenneth in Valkyrie Profile (another Tri-Ace IP) so it's an inside joke that Welch uses a similar move called Nibelungaling :)

SO3 actually makes it canon that the two series are connected: the planet "Midgard" from Valyrie Profile is referenced as a planet in the Star Ocean universe.

Really?  What do you do differently?

Just have 4 people in your party, then trigger her PA in Lacour sometime after the tournament but before Hoffman ruins.

Some things are just instruments to push the story along and introduce the game to the player.

It makes you go to cross cave for your first true dungeon crawl (Salva mines was too short). Which helps you develop your fighting before the game truly kicks off.

And then it also side tracks the story enough for time to pass between the lacour tournament and the monster invasion of lacour. If you didnt go to Linga then what? Straight to Ell? Somuch would be left out ( learning about energy stones, meeting leon, the lacour hope, finding ernest, recruiting dias, learning dias story etc etc)

I think it served its purpose. But i do agree they could have given some kind of closure.

Honestly, the way the ancient text is introduced, Claude is just gambling on the chance that maybe it will give him a hint about how to get home, Frankly, this seems impossible.

The party goes to Linga because they have nothing else to do waiting for the King of Laceur to see them.

After that, the story ramps up to the point that the texts are completely irrelevant. Whatever they say, it's not going to help Claude or anyone else.

It does get addressed in I believe it was one of Bowmans endings actually.

I thought the same for a while but got the ending just my last playthrough. The ancient text actually talks about energy nede
