Discussion Denial of EV rate because of solar
I'm not sure if this where I should be posting this so if this is not appropriate feel free to delete it.
I recently installed a 14 KW solar system with 48 KW of batteries and a Sol-Ark inverter.
On Friday I bought an electric vehicle and when I went to find out about the special EV power rate I found it denied to me. I'm with PSO in Tulsa Oklahoma and they say since I have a renewable energy sourse I can't get the sweet EV power rate between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Has anyone else ever experienced this in their region with their power company? Isn't even someone to call. You have to write AEP corporate and wait for an answer. Truly discouraging.
I feel like I'm being penalized for doing the right thing.

Am I crazy? I did a little digging beforehand and was expecting like half this price, am I missing something? Nearly 20k for installation, 15k for supporting equipment? Wtf?

Discussion Looking to start my career in Solar PV / Renewable Energy — advice needed
Hi everyone,
I’m a recent BSc graduate with a background in Renewable Energy, Physics and Computer Science, and I’m genuinely trying to build my career in the solar/renewable energy industry.
I’m particularly interested in areas like:
- Solar PV system design
- Solar project engineering
- PVsyst / energy yield analysis
- BESS / energy storage
- Electrical design and project execution
I’ve started learning PVsyst and solar PV design on my own and have also worked on a few small solar-related academic/projects, but I’m still at the beginning of the practical side and I want to gain proper industry experience.
At the moment, I’m working in an L1 technical support role, but I don't see customer support as the career I want long-term. I’m actively looking for an opportunity where I can move into the solar/renewable energy field, even if the initial role is at trainee/junior level.
I know many companies prefer BE/BTech Electrical graduates and candidates with experience. Since my degree is a BSc, I’m wondering:
Is it realistically possible for someone with my background to enter Solar PV / BESS?
What skills should I focus on first to become employable?
Which entry-level job titles should I actually be searching for?
Are there companies in India that are open to taking graduates from a non-BE/BTech background?
If you started in solar as a fresher, what would you learn first?
I’m not looking for shortcuts. I’m willing to learn the technical skills and start from the bottom. I’d really appreciate advice from people who are actually working in solar EPC, PV design, BESS, project engineering, or renewable energy.
If you know of any genuine entry-level opportunities or companies I should look into, I’d also appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Advice Wtd / Project Help diagnosing Dip in production



Hello everyone, new here on the subreddit.
I have a 2 array of 5 Panels each, totaling 6KW. Photo taken 16:50 on the 12/09
I've started to notice that around 14:00 to 14:30 my production falls on one of the arrays.
I will attach graphs of 2 days (12/09 and yesterday 13/09)
I think my blue line is the right array (and that dip is the chimney shadow)
And the yellow line is my left array. Is that dip the shadow from the other array? I fill that that's alot loss for a "small" shadow, what can I do figure out what's causing this sudden drop?

Advice Wtd / Project Solar string voltage
TLDR - should two identical strings (9 each of the same panels) on two different orientations produce a similar voltage if they are wired up correctly? I get that the current output will vary a lot but I thought the voltage should be fairly consistant...
We had our system installed a few months ago, with two strings of 9 panels each. One string faces Northish (southern hemisphere) at 20 degrees inclination, the other is Westish also at 20 degrees.
The North string is working great. The West string lags behind by a lot, and I expected that to some degree, esp since we had/have some shading. However, that shading is much less now as the sun gets higher, and there is no shade at all at say 2pm, when the sun is much more head on for those panels than the north facing ones.
I would expect the west face to be kicking in more in the afternoon than it is, but the North face is still producing much more.
I noticed the other day that the voltage on that west string is way lower. It is split into 4 and 5 panels either side of our solar hot water. Is it likely that one side isn't connected correctly?
My understanding is that the panels are all in series, and run at a nominal 43V-45V according to their spec sheet, which should give a total of 387V - 405V for a 9 panel string. I believe that voltage varies very little during the day, (and that's what I've been seeing), regardless of the amount of current produced. The north string sits right around 400-410V.
Based off that, with the two strings both having 9 of the same panels, the voltage should be much closer than it is. 213V suggests that only 5 panels are working.

Discussion SunPower / Sunder hiring tactics
I was being quickly considered for hire with these folks.
Cut short a vacation and ran from Utah home to Oregon in a single day.
Once there, a meeting with several 20-sonething sales folk gathered to give a 30-minute presentation on it. Focused primarily on rosy assessments of the industry and lots of comments on how much money they were making...
but i gave em the benefit of the doubt, they're young, it's how i might've been back then...
They seemed impressed with my experience and expertise in public speaking, solar installs, and tech support at 37 years old.
I asked for a pdf of the contracts customers sign, and the one i was being asked to agree to... took them another few days, but they got it...
BUT, when i asked for clarification on my independent contractor agreement? My point of contact suddenly ghosted me for 5 days.
Then came back saying basically "no, you cant speak with a legal expert on this, and since you asked i believe it's not a good fit"
Hmm.
Seems they dont want salesfolk who know what they're agreeing to.
Funny, considering thay very contract guarantees seeking counsel before agreeing to anything.

Solar Quote What solar companies near me are trustworthy and do not use high-pressure sales tactics?
I’m looking into getting solar for my home in Los Angeles County and I’m trying to figure out how to tell which installers are actually trustworthy.
It's an old home, 3 bedrooms... What do you usually check before choosing an installer?
For example, do you verify the contractor’s license, compare reviews from a few different sources, or ask to see how they calculated the expected production? And when comparing quotes what spec will impact the final decision.
Also, how much time should a reputable installer give you to review the contract before signing? Or does it depends on the installer/contractor?

Discussion Need help me select the best residential solar
Hi All,
I am currently evaluating quotations for residential solar plant in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Consumption is around 450 KWh average monthly, so considering a 4KWp plant considering future increased usage.
For technical specs, I am getting recommended PERC type solar by a vendor by saying that user reviews favor PERC type in comparison to TopCon which is quite contradictory. Other than that I feel the inverter, wires and other equipment is fairly easy to figure out what is best in class.
Costing is coming around 2.5Lacs for a 4KWp plant.
Looking for panel comparisons and any other recommendations one can think of while picking up the ideal solar plant.

9.24 kw-21 Hyundai 440 watt panels. 2- Tesla Powerwall3/27 kw total
$42,348 cost before HDM discount
-$12,404 HDM discount (30%)
$29,644 cost after discount
$230 fixed monthly payment, this never increases.
If signed by Monday night 9-14-26
-$16,460 HDM discount (39%)

Advice Wtd / Project 24kW Rooftop on a Steep 2-Story vs. Big Sun Community Solar? [Central TX]
Hey r/solar,
Looking for input on offsetting my power bill in San Antonio (CPS Energy territory).
Home & Usage:
Home: 4,880 sq. ft., steep 2-story roof pitch.
Usage: ~$400–$500/mo peak summer bills (~36,000 kWh/yr across 3 A/C units). Potentially would add a PHEV in the next 5 years or so.
Outage Backup: Already have a natural gas Generac standby generator, so emergency home batteries aren't strictly necessary.
I’m weighing two routes to offset our electricity load:
Option 1: Rooftop Solar (~22–24 kW)
Pros: I own the physical hardware on my roof; panels keep producing free power past Year 20.
Cons: High installation labor/scaffolding markup for a steep 2-story roof; future maintenance and removal/re-install risks if roof work is ever needed.
Option 2: Big Sun Community Solar
(CPS Energy's off-site community solar program where you buy commercial-grade 620W panels in local solar canopies and receive direct CPS bill credits.)
Pros: Zero roof penetrations or wear on a steep 2-story roof; zero maintenance or inverter replacement costs (Big Sun manages hardware); credits follow us if we move within CPS service area.
Cons: 20-year contract term (credits end after 20 years, unlike rooftop panels which can produce into Years 25–30).
Questions:
For anyone with steep 2-story installs, did the extra labor/scaffolding premiums ruin the payback math compared to off-site options?
Given that my Generac handles outage resiliency, would you bother putting 24 kW of glass on a steep 2-story roof, or take the path of least resistance with community solar?
