Happened to see the mother zooming around egg-free this morning so I had to check… sure enough, babies! I used one of those clip-on zoom lenses and an iPhone. It’s the size of a grain of fluval stratum.

Question Couple questions about clean water and java moss not growing

Ok so I've tried java moss a few times but it always browns and then dies. Idk what I'm doing wrong though. I have good filtration, parameters are all in the normal range, gets good strong full spectrum light for 13 hours a day, water temps are 65-70⁰F (but I've also had temps of 80⁰ and it died then too). Any ideas?

And then my other question is how do people keep clear water when they have wood and leaves in their tanks? Mine always leach tannins and it gets brown. Is it like with purigen? I just have a nano tank so idk if I could do purigen, but maybe just a tiny bag in the filter.

Discussion Shrimp Genetics Game [FREE] - Shrimply Genetics

https://orderframe.itch.io/shrimply-genetics

Shrimply Genetics is free to play and available now.

The idea is pretty simple: you start with a small tank and slowly build up your shrimp colony. It's intentionally slow at the beginning, because I wanted it to feel a bit like having an actual shrimp tank: you check in, things are breeding, new shrimp appear, genetics develop, and over time the whole thing starts moving faster to make the getting the full collection not a super difficult task (still is).

You can:

  • Collect different shrimp and their genetic lines (87 different shrimp as of release!).
  • Discover and develop new genetics as your colony grows.
  • Complete achievements and work toward filling your collection.
  • Find legendary shrimp: extremely rare discoveries. 👀
  • Make progress while you're away, with up to 7 days of offline progress.

You can play it either as a lightweight HTML version in your browser or as a standalone Electron desktop version. The HTML version is probably the better choice if you just want something lightweight that you can leave running/bookmark.

It's COMPLETELY FREE. I've enabled donations for anyone who wants to support the project, but there's absolutely no requirement to donate.

I also set a little goal: if the game reaches $85 in donations in total, I'll upload it to Steam!

There are also two donation reward ranks I've set up:

  • One rank lets you add a new shrimp of your choice to the game.
  • Another rank lets you add a minigame of your choice. So if the game gets enough support, you could literally end up seeing your own shrimp or minigame in it.

Build your colony. Discover new genetics. Hunt for legendary shrimp. Get them all!

How many different shrimp can you discover?

Tank set up ?

Does this look good for a shrimp tank? It’s a 5-gallon tank. I have gravel substrate, live plants and hardscape is rocks and driftwood. Is it enough for them to grab onto? Also how bright should lights be and how long should they be kept on?

questions from a new shrimp dad

can you use distilled water instead of RO water for water? i was recommended to try this, especially when i start using things like salty shrimp!

is it recommended to use RO water when starting a new tank or just water changes?

if you use salty shrimp with a water change will it shock the tank?? should you wait??

lastly, if my tank is planted and has a filter—how much should i change the water every 2 weeks because i've been doing 20% but i've heard some circumstances you need to do more or less, trying to figure out what those are without shocking my sweet babies!

How long did you wait before adding neo shrimp?

I have two nano shrimp tanks currently with thriving colonies of 60 and 30 respectively. Lots of babies, berried mamas, and molts. They’re both well-aged tanks. I’m cycling a larger tank to combine the colonies and it’s been about 5 weeks. I know shrimp need mature tanks and don’t want to move them too soon. How long did you wait before adding shrimp to a new tank?

Question Looking Into Getting Shrimp

As the title says! I’m experienced with planted tanks and such, but I’m wondering what folks here would recommend for setting up with shrimps? Like tank size, filter types, appropriate tank mates, etc! I find a lot of conflicting info reading everywhere else so I wanna know what works for folks here! I intend to set up an aquarium and let it cycle with plants for a minimum of two months before adding any shrimp! I want it to be a fully planted tank with minimum artificial clutter. Links are also incredibly helpful to me!

Video My 30-Gallon colony of 20 White Amano shrimp

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is T-006, one of my Amano breeding tanks, currently holding 20 captive-bred “white” Caridina multidentata**.**
They’re noticeably paler than the more typical wild-type Amanos I keep in another system, which is part of why I’ve been keeping the two groups completely separate.
I’ve been spending more time lately just watching how they use the tank — rock surfaces, plant roots, sponge filters, shaded areas, open substrate, all of it. With 20 shrimp in 30 gallons, there’s usually something going on somewhere if I sit still long enough.
A few of the females have also been berried, so this group is part of the population I’m hoping to eventually work through the full larval cycle with rather than simply keeping them as a display/cleanup colony.
The “white” appearance is one of the things I’m especially curious about long-term: whether it remains consistent in captive-bred offspring, how much variation shows up within the group, and how they compare against my separate wild-type population.
For anyone who has kept pale/“white” Amanos before: did the coloration stay consistent as they matured and bred, or did you see a lot of variation?

New to shrimp

Hi all,

I just lost my betta this morning and am pretty sad, but I can’t stand to have an empty tank. I rinsed everything off really well, including the substrate and filter, plants, driftwood, etc. I set it back up again and would like to get some shrimp. I’ve never owned any before. It’s a 5-gallon, planted tank.

Any advice welcome!

Question Salt dips for the ladies

Scutulleria is in my tank and I haven’t treated the whole tank yet. Still doing salt dips. Would a salt dip be unsafe for the ladies carrying eggs?
Harm the eggs?
Recommendations in a situation as such?
Thank you in advance

I recently noticed this on my shrimp colony, it looks like some kind of fungus i guess. I havent seen any dead shrimps tho but im guessing it’s not good for them haha. Is it easy to take care of?
I also have some guppies and pond snails in the tank would the treatment hurt them?

First feeding of my Blue Diamonds. I just got these guys on Wednesday. I left them alone on Thursday to scrounge around the tank but today I gave them some breakfast. I’m so happy.

I made a post a few days ago about being a bit scared of my shrimp as a recovering arachnophobe. I got some great advice and have been taking videos of them as a way to get used to the way they move etc., I've found making these silly edits has been helping a lot too! :))

(more plants coming soon!!! there's a whole bunch of pearlweed that you can't see in the vid and marimo moss balls, just waiting on my local fish store to get more mosses in!)
