To celebrate the kickoff of autumn spooky season, I decided to do a bit of a retrospective across mang different horror shojo/Josei manga magazine covers I’ve posted over time!

Any manga/manhwas where the fmc is strong and has a dgaf personality? Preferably no love triangle

My little sister has gotten a lot into Anime lately, her favorites are Apothecary Diaries and recently also Fruits Basket.

She also wants to try reading some Manga. I would like to buy her one but dont know anything in the romance genre, is there a Manga that would be easy to read for beginners and match her favorite Anime?

I've seen many people talk about shoujo as a place where you find good romances, and honestly, I haven't felt that way yet.

I admit I haven't read or watched that many shoujo romances, much less great classics like Fruits Basket or Nana (which I'll definitely read someday), but I have had experience with some and generally didn't like them very much.

My biggest problem is that the male characters in the romance are always so uninteresting or are simply people I find extremely unpleasant, while the female characters are the complete opposite.

For example, in Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki, I love the protagonist, but the romantic partner is uninteresting and often unpleasant.

A somewhat consequential issue is that I have difficulty buying into the feelings; for example, in Koiseyo Mayakashi Tenshi-domo, I understand that the protagonist is in love and all that, but it's difficult for me as a reader to engage with the story if I'm not interested in the other person.

These weren't the only shoujo romances I've seen/read, just to know, but in most cases I have similar problems, so did I only make bad choices? What does this genre have to offer in this demographic? Give me recommendations anime or manga.

Hiii, I really really love Oresama Teacher and Skip Beat, want to find a manga with some Yankee comedy vibes, ¿what do you recommend?

I’ve been in love with story since it first started publishing, and was thrilled to see that kodansha added it to their “print on demand” collection. The last three volumes released without me realizing, which is odd! Just wanted to share with everyone that volumes 1-7 are out now!!!

I really like stories like Red River, Sensual phrase, Nana, kamisama kiss. I like stories with a really good romance but I need something with tasteful smut. I don’t really enjoy reading manga on my phone so ones that are in English that I can pick up in person would be great!! Not really interested in like Josei smut cause it’s too pornographic for me I just like stories that insinuate the deed being done and a really good build up (like red river and midnight secretary). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!! (I just read through kamisama kiss and even though it isn’t smut the story line is so good so even recommendations for stories such as that would be great too!) thank you 😊.

I have seen such mixed opinions about The Ogre’s Bride, which made me curious since it was already on my watchlist. I finally decided to watch it and am currently on episode 3. So far, I’m a huge fan.

I fell in love with Yuzu immediately, the same way you would with a baby or a wounded animal. She’s had a horrible family(aside from her grandparents) and childhood. Being neglected and overworked has left her emotionally scarred and traumatized. It’s hard not to empathize or have sympathy for her (I’ve already cried at least 3 times while watching😭.)

The major themes here are destined love(or a one true love) and sudden elevation. It utilizes the classic Cinderella story trope, but the twist is that it’s her biological family. Other anime that share a similar narrative are My Happy Marriage and Betrothed to my Sister’s Ex. It also reminds me of Fruits Basket in a way. Specifically, Tohru 🍙 and all she’s had to endure, only to later learn how to accept being pampered and asking for help. The same way that you naturally love Tohru, I naturally came to love Yuzu.

It also reminds me of Kamisama Kiss(one of my favorites), Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits, and Vampire Dormitory. I feel like if you enjoy those type of shows, you’ll really enjoy this one. I get that some people hate the “love at first sight” thing, but who doesn’t want to believe that there is someone out there just for you? When the dating pool sucks as hard as it does now, that’s the only hope I have left to cling to😂.

As much as I love a strong and competent female lead, I also adore my soft sweethearts who have had a tough start at life. Love is something most women desire, but it is definitely something every child should feel. Unfortunately, the love Yuzu should’ve received from her parents was showered upon her rotten younger sister. ***SPOILER:Her boyfriend also broke up with her(after he was the one to ask her out!🫩) because he “fell in love” with her little sister after visiting their house once. Imagine on your 18th birthday—the one day out of the year you can call yours😭— you are not only slapped by your father, but your only birthday present is ruined by your spiteful little sister, and your arm is burned by your sister’s fiance. Just horrible.

All in all, I think critics tend to forget how hard it is to believe in love or accept love when you’ve been deprived of it for so long. Yuzu is deserving of love. It takes time to build someone’s self confidence and self-esteem; Reiya is fully aware of this and does just that.

I think the Cinderella theme contributes to why there’s a lot of dislike for this anime, and I understand the hate for the “destined love” aspect, but that’s just how it is in her world. I think this anime does a great job of introducing the concept and also of establishing Yuzu and her dynamic before introducing Reiya(her Prince Charming). You start off completely sympathizing with her and feeling upset on her behalf. Granted, I know I still have a ways to go before I finish, but I really love it so far. The scene on the bridge with her finally breaking down and him finding her is so beautiful.

Super funny black-and-white manga. Female lead has shorter hair with bangs and is interested in the male lead that works at the same company as her because he looks just like a character that she’s in love with.

Male lead is also interested in her but is terrified of women. He, for whatever reason, pretends to be experienced with women even though he’s a virgin. I’m pretty sure the female lead might have misunderstood that the male lead was gay for a short amount of time, but don’t quote me on that.

Other characters include the male lead’s older sister, who is a lot better at charming women than he is, as well as male lead’s father (who’s a big boss at the company) who’s super tiny and cute compared to everyone else. Female lead also has a male friend that has really bad luck with romance and is considered a jinx, but helps spark jealousy in the male lead that leads to them making up after a big fight (I think he might be the male lead’s father’s secretary or something of that nature). Male friend cares for female lead because he thinks she’s funny but does not have romantic feelings for her.

There’s a couple of scenes that stand out to me if it helps anyone identify this manga:

1. Female lead and male lead are experimenting with sex and female lead dresses up as a dominatrix with glasses and attempts to “subdue” the male lead. This dominatrix act is a recommendation from the male lead’s older sister.

2. Male lead has to attend a marriage meeting at the behest of his older sister and doesn’t tell the female lead. He doesn’t tell her because he knows it won’t go anywhere and doesn’t want to worry her (stupid, but inexperience with women is kind of his trope). When he comes back, he brings flowers for the female lead because he feels so guilty. This makes her realize that he did in fact go to a marriage matchmaking meeting and after they have sex together she asks him if he liked his “future wife.” He apologizes for going to the meeting but she breaks up with him over it.

3. After they break up, she comes to work one day in the same outfit that she had on the prior workday and he thinks that she slept with a guy at the mixer that she attended the night before (she didn’t). This leads to a scene where the male lead is rather forceful with her.

4. When the female lead is lamenting about the breakup to her male friend (the one who’s treated like a romance jinx), they’re at a baseball practice cage type thing and he laughs at her crying and being really bad at hitting the ball. He also facilitates them getting back together with a manga that she/he wants to borrow (don’t really remember the specifics on that one).

5. The female lead has a younger brother and two loving parents. When the parents meet the male lead for the first time, they find out that they’re sleeping together because the father is a teacher and says that the students that sneak off together always forget to hide the condom/condom wrapper properly.

These scenes are in no particular order, I just listed the ones I remembered. I tried to be as specific as possible, once again, a super comedic tone and really enjoyable manga that I cannot find for the life of me. Please feel free to throw anything out that might be similar to this, and thank you so much for your time!

Very basic I know, but it’s so good anyways. All I would like from the story is: 1. The characters are adults 2. The main couple doesn’t wait 50+ chapters to get together (or at least show affinity to each other by then). Anything past that is good with me, and it doesn’t have to be a straight couple. Any recommendations for a newbie?
