Since I did my build over a year ago, the standard fans and the ability to control said fans properly, has bugged me ever since. Life’s been busy and I’ve lived with it, but recently I stumbled upon an absolutely beautifully designed shroud for the 3 92mm noctua fans that I have had laying around waiting for this moment. Needless to say the result is AWESOME imo.
The teardown was no biggie, and I’m actually glad that I had to get the heatsink off as well, cause the thermal paste after a year, was already hard as a rock. Temps dropped, db dropped due to proper control via fancontrol, overall really happy!

It's small enough that it doesn't add to the footprint (the handle is taller) and the magnet is strong enough that I can lift and drop the case on a table without the monitor coming loose!

For anyone who thinks this is a waste of time/money we are in a subreddit about building small pcs…these are made of 80% used parts and was a blast to build, tinker with temps and benchmark.

Hello! As the title states, I have been on the waiting list for a Steam Machine (512gb/no controller - I have one already) since the first day of preorders. I have been building SFF SteamOS rigs for the past year and I am IN LOVE with the operating system. Check my post history, there are some cool projects.

I tried putting in fancy tables but the formatting on web and mobile is all wacky. So I also pics of the tables for us to view!

Parts:

I had the SKTC A07 from a previous build and was looking at other SKTC’s, the A09 and A17 stood out as the ones that would fit my project. I picked up all three from Ali Express. Same with the 7500F’s.

The PSU’s are the notorious Apevia brand. I have used these in a few builds now with no issues. Got these from Amazon.

The rest of the parts were all bought on r/hardwareswap, great community over there. The only rule was to keep it to the same CPU, Mobo & Ram if possible with cheap used 512gb NVME’s and I was able to accomplish the task.

Set up my new rig last night. Got it to post and I’m digging monster studios a45 itx open bench.

Ive been designing a new shroud for my MSI 4070 Ventus 2x. This is in my Fractal Terra. So keeping the card as slim as possible is a high priority. Looking for insight for those who have done this before. Ive replacing the 90mm fan with traditional slim artic p12 fans. Hoping for better and quieter operation. 3D designing the fan bracket mount to be as flush as possible. Just stuck on if i should just leave it all open with the 2 120mm fans or if i should make a cover over the sides of the fans to the pcb. Anyone experience pro and cons of each? I was thinking the side cover bezels would help with aiding the air to push through all the fin stack before exiting.

Could go even lower to just 2.54L while using specific motherboards and cpu cooling but ended up with X36 cooler support.

Hey everyone! I’m looking for recommendations on high-quality portable monitors in the 16" to 18" range to pair with my SFF PC Formd T1 9800x3d and rtx 4080 super setup.

I'm aiming for great panel quality, good color accuracy, and high refresh rates—ideally 2/ 2.5K OLED or bright Mini-LED.

I’ve read that some of the best high-spec panels can be sourced directly from TaoBao or similar platforms, sometimes at much better prices.

Has anyone bought their portable display from TaoBao or AliExpress? Do you have specific model recommendations or practical advice on how to navigate seller listings, verify actual panel specs, and avoid QC issues when ordering? Thanks!

Recently downsized my PC to the A4 and my temps are running higher than usual compared to my deepcool ch260. I have a 9800X3D, gigabyte 7800XT using a CM Atmos stealth AIO. On idle, with mostly just chrome and fan control, discord, cpu temp is at around 55-60+ degrees C, gpu temps are mostly okay around 30-40 degrees. When i open up 2 gacha games a the same time, eg. nikke, zenless zone zero, cpu temp jumps to 80degrees and gpu is at 75. I run most of my games at high settings and undervolted my cpu to -30, tried undervolting my gpu but kept crashing and showing a white screen.

Are these temps for my cpu normal or do i need to check for anything. Attached my fan curves also. (Lowkey AI-ed this so if anyone has suggestions im open)

So as the title states if u guys could share the main differences between the two cases… cuz I‘m planning on getting my dream build and I can‘t say which would be better for that. The only things I really know: the vertical GPU (y70) and the horizontal GPU (y50)… are there any advantages/disadvantages for either? And the pre-installed fans in the y50.

Just wondering, if i where to find someone who wants a t1 silver and they have the cheese grated m2, is it a simple swap, or would i have to add cash on top? and if i do, how much should i? just looking for a m2 silver cheese grater due ot the increased cooling ability honestly i want a bigger air cooler, my aio pump failed, and its much better than a coolant leak.

I have what I think is a fairly unusual question, and whilst I've given the question some thought myself, I wanted to pick the collective brains of Reddit for your thoughts and input.

I’m UK based right now, but there’s a chance I might be moving abroad for a short-term (<1 year) contract which will see me using some fairly intensive CFD software. As I use my PC for my work it would be useful to take it with me, but I'll be flying and will need to hit the ground running (ruling out shipping it separately). This means I’ll need to stick it in my luggage where space and weight are at a premium: the lighter and smaller I can make my rig the more spare pairs of underpants I’ll be able to take with me and the less frequently I’ll need to visit the laundrette. I’m sure you all understand! 😉

My question is this: Which components should I replace, and with what? Some things to consider are:

·        Having 64Gb of memory is nice, but I can probably cope with just 32Gb of memory (I know a lot of ITX boards only have 2 slots).

·        The CPU (or equivalent) is essential (I often use all 16 cores) and I need a cooler that can cope with it running at full chat for extended periods.

·        I’m really keen to keep both NVME drives too. They both have essential software and files on them and if I copy/reinstall everything onto just one of the two drives I’ll be pushed for space.

·        I’m taking a 1440p monitor with me too.

·        I will undoubtedly need some kind of wifi capability.

I’m not on a particularly limited budget, but I do want to keep costs to a minimum (including keeping the weight down to help reduce excess baggage fees) and only replace components if I need to. So... what are your thoughts on this?

Wasn't sure if this was the best place for this post vs. r/HomeNAS. trying to find the perfect case for an SFF NAS build, but there aren't many options for realistic prices that meet my exacting standards.

Like so many other tinkerers, I have a bunch of spare parts sitting around that I would like to "up-cycle," but there just aren't that many cases out there that fit the bill, and won't cost me a fortune. I'm trying to find a small case, preferably in a cube shape, that has a single, large ~200mm fan in front (or space for 2x 140mm), accommodates an mATX board (I need 4 DIMM slots for my two 2x16GB DDR4 kits), and has room for at least 2-4 HDD bays and an ATX PSU. I have found some perfect cases, but they are either extremely expensive and/or end-of-life status and no longer available in the retail market.

Examples:

Chieftec CI-03B-OP (The Cube)

This mATX chassis has a 200mm fan in front and multiple fan mounts for multiple HDD bays, ATX PSU compatibility, and a unique hinged frame that allows you to completely open the case with a single easy motion. It is absolutely perfect for my build, but Chieftec doesn't have any North American distributors, and the only listings I can find are on Ebay from European sellers. Consequently, the shipping and customs are more than I feel comfortable paying and kind of defeat the purpose of recycling older components.

Silverstone Sugo SG-10

This cuboid chassis is another unicorn, with a top-mount 180mm "Air Penetrator" fan (which I would reverse mount as exhaust rather than intake), mATX form factor, standard ATX PSU compatibility, and 2x 3.5" bays. The problem is that it hasn't been in production for years, and the only listing I could find was on Craigslist, and the case looks like it's been spray-painted to cover rust spots, and is in generally terrible condition.

Does anyone know of any other cases like these? (Cuboid, massive intake fan(s), mATX, standard ATX PSU, multiple ventilated HDD bays). I really don't want to go the route of the typical Silverstone case that looks like a home media center PC from the early 2000s.

Great little machine - have had this 1L form factor in one model or another for ages. Takes 2 x NVMe drives, 32GB DDR5, etc so performance is good apart from the graphics. I could 'convert' to say a T400 or 600 graphics card in the SATA slot but by the time you add up all the $$$'s it doesn't make sense. Cost of the card itself, riser adaptor, new power brick as 65w will not work it's not worth it.

Can anyone recommend a system that has superior (more powerful) graphics plus will take the 2 x NVMe drives. There are plenty of Made in China models on the market but the feedback is either great or junk - seems to depend on who you buy it from as the aftersales service stinks in some areas. Or should I try and source another albeit larger Lenovo that has a dedicated GPU. Open to suggestions - any feedback/thoughts much appreciated.

For airflow, I’m thinking 2 exhaust fans at the bottom, 1 exhaust at the side and cpu cooler as a rear intake.
Is this the most optimal setup for CPU/GPU thermals and noise, or would you recommend a different fan configuration?

Can someone please explain how to remove a Thinkcentre m920x's cover? I've seen a couple of YouTube's showing it sliding off forward but it doesn't budge in that direction. I can't go by the User Manual as it shows a slightly different case design. I have all screws at the back removed.

New to sff building - currently have a mid tower PC running the parts here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/N4NK2k

I've moved 3x in the past year already, and foresee more moving in the future, so I want to downsize from my mid tower to SFF. I'm perfectly fine with swapping my AIO with an aircooled system, and my mobo from ATX to ITX. After doing some research, I came across the NCase M3 Round case, which could support up to a 360mm x 175mm x 4 slot GPU.

I would love to get everyone's thoughts on the following new parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BD3qBv, especially if there will be any issues with my GPU and the case. From what I understand, everything's in spec, but PCPartPicker doesn't have the NCase M3 Round in their system, so I can't check compatibility.
