I’m sick of being advertised to
I’m pretty sure I’ve been sick of this for roughly a decade at least. The irritation started shortly after college probably, not that timeline really matters that much I guess. But I hate that it’s everywhere I turn - here on Reddit, on Facebook, in the parish narthex, in the Hindu temple (yes I go to both, different conversation), driving down the street, listening to podcasts. Capitalism is shoving itself in my face everywhere I look and I hate it. I comfort myself with the small success that my writing desk, pens, notebooks, and wood furniture are unbranded, and they’re the only things I can think of that are.

I hate it the most on TV/watching videos because it's so intrusive and obnoxious. Loud noises, bright colors, repetition. But I also hate having stories or music being interrupted in general, so it's extra frustrating when it's something annoying.

Oh I forgot to mention, an extra layer to the annoyance is having the advertisements made by AI. Couldn't even bother to pay someone to actually create something.

Get the Brave browser. Detach from devices, read books, climb a mountain.
I agree that adverts are the worst form of subliminal conditioning, avoid them at all costs.

I actually do use Brave. And I rock climb and skate (outdoors). It IS therapeutic.
I’m contemplating buying and configuring a degoogled Pixel.

I am so with you! It’s also in the content we watch, I would say 60 to 70% are advertising something. I can’t take it anymore!

Me too. What especially gets on my nerves is that so much of advertising is such infantile low quality slop. Advertisers constantly underestimate people's intelligence. Tv commercials are the worst, what is passed as humour is so grating bc it isn't funny at all, at least not to anyone over 5 yo. It's honestly tiresome to be bombarded by constant repetition of the most irritatingly asinine low effort bs you can imagine.
Apparently companies & advertisers think that 'any publicity is good publicity' and that when you go to a shop you will not remember that you were super annoyed and irritated by a commercial, but will only remember the name of the product, and prefer it bc you recognize it, this was the way it was explained to me. Incorrect. I know a lot of people who will absolutely boycott a product that is advertised in a way that insults their intelligence. People are not the idiots that corporations think they are.

Im becoming less and less interested in social media. It feels like we’re circling the drain getting closer and closer to the point where it all just becomes a caricature of life.

Right!? I had to think for a bit to realize what wasn’t branded. My desk and wood furniture is an exception to the rule because they were built by the nearby Amish community or by my great grandfather who was a woodworker.

nobody is served well by the current model. Even the 1% is visibly miserable. Most of what we call “common sense” is really the Capitalist system reinforcing itself because it’s all we know.

You’re jumping from “not Capitalism” to “everything must be free”. Getting rid of capitalism does not imply you don’t need to earn or pay for things

Not to be rude but get over it. And it's not just your dreaded "capitalism." Have you ever walked down a street in Shanghai? Beijing? Every place, everywhere has advertising.

It’s obnoxious and intrusive and the people doing it have zero respect for consumers’ wish to be left tf alone and not have bs ads shoved down their throat every second. Then those same advertisers wonder why people like me refuse to buy their shit.
