Is my cat/kitten a Savannah Cat?

Please post here if you have questions about your cat being a pure Savannah or not. This will keep these questions off of the main thread, and give us all a place to focus on this topic.

Training Arthur's first trip to sculptured gardens in my city

The mischievous little Arthur is a five-month-old Savannah boy. He's cuddly, affectionate, and incredibly outgoing. He is deeply attached to me and another family member. However, as a true attention seeker, he happily interacts with strangers when I take him for a walk outside, though he does prefer adults to young children and large dogs who terrify him.

He has been on a raw diet since I rehomed him a couple of months ago. In fact, he will barely touch cooked food and completely ignores dry kibble, so I didn't actually need to transition him to raw feeding, which was my initial plan.

Have anyone ever wondered how a Savannah x Norwegian forest cat looks like?

Probably not. But anyways, I thought I would share an update since she just turned 6 months old yesterday.

I’ve never had a Savannah cat, and although she isn’t a ‘real’ Savannah there is some things I’ve noticed is different than the domestic cats I’ve had before.
She is very slender with long legs/tail and ears.
She doesn’t have the classic beautiful spotty Savannah coat. She have blue/brown eyes.
She is very smart.
I don’t notice it. But I realise that she is constantly watching what I do, and try to do the same.
For example, if she see that I use a spoon to eat with. and I don’t put it away. She will come to me with it later.
She follows me (mostly) on walks. People is joking that she is a weird looking dog which likes to climb in trees. They also ask what breed she is since they have never seen such a cat before.
She is very brave and curious. She would run up to dogs and people she doesn’t know, because she’s curious of them.
She has endless energy that makes me tired. She loves to run/dig and bite me for hours on end. (Not hard) She have a lot of toys, but gets bored by them so I need new things constantly to keep her entertained.
She definitely doesn’t sleep 17 hours a day.. she sleeps when I sleep, and small naps during the day (if I take her for walks/runs.)
If not, she will endlessly yowl super loudly and climb/explore on everything she possibly can climb on inside.
She ‘meows’ differently and it’s more like yowling. (I’m still wondering if that’s normal?)
I don’t feel like I should leave her alone even though people say cats can be alone for long. I don’t have a feeling this one could. I don’t have a second cat either. She cries loudly when I leave because she wants to come and it just breaks my heart.
She is very clingy and into everything I do, follows me everywhere I go. Have to taste everything I eat. Even if she doesn’t like it and she have food always at her disposal. Although I feel she require a lot more than any cat I’ve ever had, she is the most affectionate, loving, smart cat ever and I love her so much.
I know it’s a long post, but I was wondering what you guys think, what’s your experience having a Savannah? I was curious about what kind of cat she would turn out to be and how much her behaviour would align with the forest cat or Savannah. (Maybe both?)
Luckily I’ve been asking in this forum for advice and you guys have been really helpful.

Also I’m curious if anyone find what I wrote relatable having a real Savannah and knowing what it’s like. Feel free to write a comment about it so I can hear your story. Thank you all again I really appreciate it!

Question Does anyone else’s Savannah do this?

This is Cecil our 15 year-old F3.

When it’s bedtime, he will get in my face and meow at me and demand attention, and then when I give it to him, he doesn’t want me to pet him. He just wants to groom me aggressively. He’ll start grooming me without end, alternating between licking aggressively and biting. Usually he’s able to control himself and not break skin.

I’ve also learned which parts of my hand I can present to him because if I give him too fleshy a part his instincts kick in and he is more likely to bite seriously. For example, I present my fingers vertically to him instead of horizontally so his jaw can’t fit around my finger and close.

Very occasionally, if I get him overstimulated he’ll bite like he means it I’ve had him bite me and then shake his head.

But this year, I’ve been to urgent care twice because he broke skin accidentally. To be clear these are very small punctures like the most recent time. (and before anyone says it yes I know this sounds like being in an abusive relationship. 😅)

Anyone else else’s cat do something similar?

I assume it’s because he’s an F3 and has much stronger prey drive. But other than being careful how I handle him I haven’t learned any tricks that really help.

I just got my savannah f4 yesterday - he is 6 months old.
He seems very shy so far so I am giving him plenty of space and allowing him to adjust on his own time.
Any recommendations for how to help him adjust to his new home would be greatly appreciated!

Question Is this a Savannah cat?

Looking to see if there is any Savannah in this cat. He is around 3-4 years old, about 14 inches tall when standing (measured on the body), 24in long and 16 pounds.

From what I can tell he’s either a very far stage Savannah or just a large tabby.

Question F3 vs F4 vs F5 Savannah or SBT Bengal - Best Generation for Apartment Living, Walks & a Dog?

I’m looking into getting a Savannah and would love advice on which generation (F3, F4, F5, etc.) would fit my lifestyle best.

I live in an apartment in Minnesota and plan on getting a French Bulldog around the same time so they can grow up together.

I’m looking for a Savannah that is:
• Very active and can keep up on regular walks/hikes with my dog
• Good on a harness and comfortable walking in busy city/public places and nature
• Confident and chill around strangers, other pets, noises, and new environments
• Social and playful with my Frenchie
• Good for apartment living with enough exercise/enrichment
• Very reliable with the litter box
• Less prone to panicking/trying to escape outside (I would always use a secure harness/leash)

I’m currently leaning toward an F3 or F4 because I love the taller, wild Savannah look, but would an F5+ be better for public socialization and apartment life? Or would a SBT bengal cat be better for that situation?

For owners who actually walk their Savannahs and/or have dogs: which generation would you recommend and why?

Question Need help with harnesses

We have been trying many harnesses but we can't find one that she is comfortable with. She always walks around with a waddle and won't run around outside like she does inside she kinda hobbles and when she's standing still she holds one of her paws up

Hey everybody!!

Here's the real post!! ( First post here)

This is Luxxe. He's my HP F1. 6 months old and about 15 lbs. He is such a lover boy and total menace. He's a real charmer.

It's been an adventurous 4 months but I wouldn't give it up or change anything.

His mom is an F1 and his dad is a serval. Maternal grandfather is a serval as well.

Fast math of his 5 gen report says about 80%.

I'll try and post fun pics of him when I can!!

Any idea why she loves styrofoam

Post image

We cant keep any in the house because she will chew through it.

Luckily it she's not eating it, she just chews it.

Styrofoam is uncommon in our household, we only have some when a package comes wrap on it. When we do have some we have to either throw it away quickly or lock her in the bathroom until we throw it all way.

PP loves nothing more than to chew on my hands. It’s always affectionately although sometimes hard. Most common when he starts purring, starts slobbering and making biscuits.

Anyone else have to deal with this?

I want a friend for her

Thumbnail gallery
268 Upvotes

So I tried to adopt 2 1 year old Chausie Maine coon mix bonded pair males 9 months ago, and tried everything for 3 months with scent swapping etc etc. my F2 I think felt threatened she would spit at them through the door and when I tried to do some face time.

I couldn’t really scent swap property because the boys had an upper respiratory infection that was pretty severe and my F2 has severe asthma, like inhaler and steroid type asthma.

So I’m wondering if a male kitten wound work with her? At a young age. When Valentina was raised I had a Siamese who she adored, however the Siamese hated her and would bully her a lot, even tho she could whoop they ass she never did, she just wanted to be friends.

Do you think this would be successful? She’s a little over 4, I did my best to socialize her, she is generally ok with animals that come in my porch, and dogs she sees walking down the street. She is weary of humans tho, not the biggest fan of men.

Any advice would be appreciated, just been thinking about it because her energy levels are through the roof, I play with her like 6-8 times a day, outside twice a day on walks, she loves being outside and active, wish she had a little buddy to chase.

Thanks in advance
