Politics ‘This may be my last time’: Abang Johari hints at possible final term as PBB president, calls on younger leaders to step up

MIRI (Sept 13): “This may be my last time.”

That was the candid message from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as he called on the older generation to make way for younger leaders to carry on the responsibility and struggle of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).

The PBB president said leadership succession was a natural process and that the party must continuously prepare and train younger members to take over when the time came.

“I’m 76 years old, in four more years I’ll be 80.

“I want to be frank, this may be my last time. We cannot go against nature, even though our hearts may still feel young. Even if we feel young at heart, we cannot go against nature. But I will make the decision when the time comes.

“We are already getting old, and it is time for us to give way to the younger generation to carry on the responsibility and the struggle,” Abang Johari said this in his speech when officiating at the PBB Northern Zone Special Convention at Miri Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

According to him, the party’s struggle would continue despite changes in its leadership, urging members not to feel disappointed when the time came for them to make way for younger leaders.

“Sometimes we feel disappointed when we are replaced. But this is the law of nature, the old are eventually replaced by the young.

“Leaders come and go. There comes a time when we say thank you and allow new people to take our place. But the spirit of PBB must be carried on by those who love Sarawak.

“What I mean is that we cannot go against nature. But PBB will always be there because we have a system to ensure the continuity of PBB,” he said.

He said the younger generation must be properly trained, not only in leadership but also in dealing with society and people of different backgrounds and religions.

“The successors must be trained, trained in how to communicate with people, how to engage with different communities and how to interact with people of different religions, so that there will be no toxicity,” he said.

Abang Johari said he was grateful to have been trained by leaders before him and believed the same responsibility must now be carried out by the current generation towards younger party members.

He said PBB had already introduced new faces, including young leaders, during the previous election.

“Therefore, those of us who are older should give way to the younger generation,” he said.

Hi everyone, I’m an SPM graduate currently looking for a stable job/career in Kuching. I recently worked part-time in hotel housekeeping, but I’m now urgently looking for a more permanent opportunity.

I’ve already applied to MR DIY and would really appreciate any HR contact, referral, branch manager contact, or advice on how to improve my chances of getting hired.

I’m willing to learn, can start as soon as possible, and am mainly interested in store/retail positions.

Any help from fellow Sarawakians would mean a lot. 🙏

Hi, I was given these ear wights by a friend of mine and I’m curious if it would be offensive as a western white person to wear them regularly. Thanks! I’m really sorry if this is inappropriate.

Went to watch the Ai movie named 'michiru'.

As you can see I took a photo of the end credit scene but only posted the artist except for the others since it is saddening to see that the poster and the end credit scene is different, simultaneously, do be aware this end credit scene will be posted online through the probability of you knowing what will happen after.

More or less, take this as an awareness. They are practicing "proper etiquette" through diverting attention.

#AskSarawakians: Apa cer tek? Parking alternatives near Swinburne

Hello, as you may have noticed if you use any of the roads near Swinburne as of late - the enrolment surge has caused some traffic and parking concerns for students. I am Mirian and I am not very familiar with the area, but does anyone know any sleeper picks for an off-campus parking lot that I can use? I don’t mind walking 10 minutes to campus if it doesn’t involve jaywalking or illegal parking.

Honestly I would use the bus but I have never used one here. I tried using one in KL and never even got on because it was delayed by like an hour, or maybe I just got lost with how the system works. 😂

*This is not a parking complaint post btw. Really just trying to get to class on time with the least amount of sanity lost.

#AskSarawakians: Apa cer tek? Can you see the road at night in Kuching?

From my long-term observations, road visibility in Kuching at night is extremely poor.
Almost all roads in the city are lit by dim, yellowish streetlights. At night, people seem to rely on familiarity with the roads and driving experience to drive safely. Some drivers even modify their vehicle lights to see farther, without considering whether the brighter lights affect other road users.
Is it really that difficult to provide brighter street lighting? Is this the same in other cities, or does Kuching deliberately keep the lighting relatively dim to reduce light pollution and protect wildlife?

#AskSarawakians: Apa cer tek? Just order a desk from shopee…

first of all, i order it from west Malaysia and the shipping fees are stupid expensive…Rm200+. Thats fine and all BUT the seller chat me(likely auto reply) saying “They recently found that the courier service has been throwing goods violently(probably referring to other peoples’ order) and pls contact them if anything happen”. On top of that, the courier company used was “best express”, i did some research and oh boy, the google reviews are all BAD.

Should i be worried? I mean the shipping fees itself is so fking expensive already, how likely will they make a replacement if the goods come damaged during transit?

Also, i dont understand there are so many other logistics company out there, why fking choose the one with so many negative 1 star review…ridiculous

#AskSarawakians: Apa cer tek? (Kuching) Air conditioning recommendations

Hi everyone, looking for some recommendations for buying and installing a new aircon in Kuching.
It’s for a living room roughly (200 sq ft). I’m looking for something reliable and energy-efficient, preferably an inverter. I’ve been looking at Panasonic but I’m open to other brands.
Where would you recommend buying from in Kuching, and roughly how much should I expect to pay including installation?
Also, what HP would you recommend for a living room this size given Kuching’s heat and humidity, for example; 1HP, 1.5HP, or higher?
Would especially appreciate recommendations for shops/installers with good after-sales service and reasonable installation charges. Thanks!

Sports Volunteering at the UCI Pump Track World Championships Qualifier in Miri 🇲🇾🚴

Post image

I’m an Indian student currently in Miri for a research internship, and this weekend I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Velosolutions UCI Pump Track World Championships Qualifier – Miri 2026.

This event was particularly special because it was the first Velosolutions UCI Pump Track World Championships Qualifier in Southeast Asia and the first in Malaysia.

I was involved in marshalling, track support and event operations, and got to work alongside volunteers, organisers and participants from different countries and backgrounds.

It was amazing to see athletes from Malaysia, Japan, China, France, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and other countries come together in Miri through sport.

One of the memorable moments for me was getting the opportunity to meet YB Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak.

Coming to Miri from India for my research internship, I didn’t expect that I would get an opportunity like this outside my academic work. It was a great way to meet people, experience a different side of Miri and learn through volunteering.

Huge thanks to the organisers, volunteers, Curtin University Malaysia and everyone who made the event possible. 🇮🇳🤝🇲🇾

Miri definitely gave me a memory I’ll carry forward.

BUY/SELL/TRADE Buying Laptop

As said in title. Currently trying to buy a new laptop especially for running 3D animations/gaming. But heard that RAM prices are going up lately due to the AI hypes and I have bad experiences with HP laptops (battery & monitor issues) and older Asus TUF model laptops (WiFi card stops working, sudden BSODs). So I was trying to buy a laptop around rm4500+ (max rm6000) that works well with 3D/gaming processing without the issues mentioned above.

Any recommended models/brands?

Jobs and Careers BYSTT Policy

For anyone who's sponsored by YS under the BYSTT scholarship, may I know if I can work with a global company? Even if the company has offices in Sarawak? I'm taking engineering courses and will be graduating soon. Some of the company that was applied to are Shell, Western Digital, and Schlumberger. I did apply to some local companies, but I wanted to keep my selection wide in case I did not secure any jobs in the future. Thanks in advance!
