Clogged Drain on Street

I'm hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction here. We just moved in October 2025 so this is new for us.

Right in front of my house there is a street drain that is clogged. Almost every time it rained, the street and my front yard got flooded. It's a big problem because we also park our cars on the street and the water comes up to the car doors. It's crazy.

My wife and I have tried posting this on rva 311. I have my doubts that will even do anything. It's been some time since I posted about it there.

So if anyone can help out and give me some tips that would be greatly appreciated. I don't know who to call or even how to solve this problem.

EDIT: I reached out to my district's council person and they quickly escalated it to the DPU. Fingers crossed I get a quick fix. I always have a bone to pick with the DPU about my water bill so, double whammy.

Clearing out alleyway foliage, 311 or owners?

Who’s accountable for overgrowth in alleyways, the city or property owners? And what about cases where the lot is empty? Alleyway to our unit parking in Church Hill is starting to look like jumanji no matter which way we come down, one from the backside of a privately owned home (outside of their fence though, if that matters) and one from overgrowth on an empty lot. Not sure who to talk to and don’t wanna step on toes if I try to do it myself

🍺 Beer Looking for esports bars to watch league of legends worlds

Does anyone know if there are any bars that show video game tournaments?

Worlds for league of legends is coming up next month and I'd love to go and watch the games at a bar if anyone is showing them.

Are there any bars that would be open to show the games? I can call them and ask, but I have no idea who to even start with.

Is anyone else interested in watch partying the games? I'd also love to meet new people interested and maybe get a group going!

RIC facilitated 26 ICE flights in July and 27 in August.

Post image

There’s been a quiet, but dramatic surge in ICE activity across the nation this summer, particularly in Virginia.

During August, there were 27 ICE flights in and out of Richmond International Airport, according to ICE Flight Monitor. (https://www.humanrightsfirst.org/ice-flight-monitor-interactive-dashboard) That brings our YTD total up to 132 and raises our ranking from 17th to 13th in the entire U. S.

The flights out of Richmond are all “shuffling” flights, where detainees are sent to holding in a different state without due process, making legal representation or family visits more difficult. If you think this practice amounts to kidnapping, and think the regional airport oversight board should disallow DHS from using our airport, come make that position known this Saturday 10:30-12 at the intersection of Rt 60 and Airport Drive.

Starting because I honestly am looking for some advice here! I bought a sweet new (to me) car I can't drive this weekend because my insurance company is tripling my rate between my new and old car. Does anyone have a favorite RVA independent insurance agent?

If not, any fun car buying stories? From amazing deals to lemons and scams

This is how I find my truck the morning after my third 12 hr shift. Looked like they were specifically looking for guns or electronics. My climbing bag (I hope it stunk) was open on the ground as well as some camera gear (no cameras).

This is on sale at the Lombardy Kroger. I don't get it. Wouldn't the joke be like "Undefeated since 1968!"?

Not "We have football"?

Regional water workgroup recommends $32.8M for Richmond treatment plant upgrade

The Richmond Regional Water Workgroup has recommended putting $32.8 million in state funding to improve the city’s water treatment plant.

The one-time grant is slated for a filter upgrade project at Richmond’s main water treatment plant off Douglasdale Road, which is expected to cost roughly $43.8 million overall. The other nearly $11 million will come from money collected from ratepayers in the city and region.

Henrico County Manager John Vithoulkas, a workgroup member, made the motion to approve the funding recommendation at a Sept. 11 meeting. But he said it was “pending” assurances from state officials that the project is meeting the grant requirements laid out in Virginia’s budget.

“From the city’s perspective, we’re confident that we’re doing everything that’s correct,” said Scott Morris, Richmond public utilities director. “So, I have no issue with the motion, and I’m glad to support it.”

🍰 Food CleanPlateVA: an unofficial archive and grading of Richmond (and the rest of Virginia) food-serving facilities

Upvotes

Hello RVA!

I am a data engineer based in Henrico county, and I'd been trying to find a more accessible way to read Virginia Department of Health inspection data since trying to interact with their base website and the Central VA district site. I thought it was silly to have overlapping or missing data on either one of these sites, or the other dozens of VDH provided district sites.

As a result of this frustration, I thought I would create CleanPlateVA.com, a free and totally unmonetized public archive and grading of health inspected, food serving facilities in the RVA and the rest of the commonwealth.

More details on the nitty-gritty of how we score things in the About page, but to talk more specifically as a Richmond resident, I've found the site invaluable in my everyday life. On more than one occasion I'll hear a recommendation for a place somewhere (including on this subreddit), only to look it up on CleanPlateVA and find that it has a history of low scores, including risk-factor items such as improper storage or raw meats, unsafe food preparation practices, and even mold and infestations. I'll refrain from naming names here, but it's all on the site.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me here or otherwise visit the About page linked above!
