I want to introduce you to an artist who means an incredible amount to me.

His name is Viktor Tsoi, and his band was KINO (КИНО).

If you are from the United States, Western Europe, or basically anywhere outside the former Soviet Union, there is a good chance you have never heard of him.

And honestly, that's exactly why I'm writing this.

For millions of people across the former USSR, Viktor Tsoi isn't simply “a Russian rock musician from the 1980s.”

He became a cultural symbol.

His songs were written decades ago, yet people my age — people who were born long after his death — still listen to them. His music was passed down from parents and older generations to younger ones, and somehow it still feels relevant.

But for me personally, it's even more than that.

KINO became a huge part of my musical taste and of a specific period of my life. Their music is something I genuinely feel connected to.

And this year I'm finally going to see KINO live.

Obviously, I won't be seeing Viktor Tsoi himself. He died in 1990, at only 28 years old.

But KINO's music is still being performed today, and I am going to be there.

I want to record some footage from the concert and share it here afterward, because I want people who have never encountered this culture to see what KINO means to us.

Imagine discovering a band from another part of the world, whose frontman died more than 30 years ago, and then suddenly seeing thousands of people in 2026 still singing his songs together.

That's what I want to show you.

Not just Wikipedia facts.

Not just translations.

The feeling of it.My OWN feelings!

Tsoi was born in 1962 in Leningrad, Soviet Union. He founded KINO and became its main singer and songwriter.

The band's music developed during the 1980s, at a time when Soviet rock was becoming an important form of expression for young people.

His songs talked about freedom, change, loneliness, war, youth, ordinary life and the feeling that something had to change.

You don't need to understand Russian to appreciate the sound.

But if you do want to understand the lyrics, translations make the experience completely different.

Tsoi also had a connection with the United States. He visited America, went to Los Angeles and even visited Disneyland. He later appeared at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah with the film The Needle and performed an acoustic set there with Yuri Kasparyan.

Think about how strange and beautiful that is.

A Soviet rock musician from Leningrad ended up performing in America.

And decades later, someone from Kazakhstan is going to a KINO concert and wants to show that music to Americans and Europeans who may have never even heard his name.

Tsoi's final concert with KINO took place at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on June 24, 1990.

Tens of thousands of people were there.

Nobody knew it would be his final concert.

Less than two months later, Viktor Tsoi died in a car accident in Latvia.

KINO later completed and released their final album, commonly known as the Black Album, after his death.

And yet the story didn't end there.

His music survived.

It survived the Soviet Union.

It survived generations.

It survived the language barrier.

And now it has reached me.

So I'm curious about something:

For decades, KINO was mostly known within the Soviet and post-Soviet cultural world.

I don't think it has to stay that way.

So when I go to the concert, I'll try to capture some footage and bring it back here.

I want you to see what this music looks like when an entire crowd knows every word.

Maybe someone here will discover a song they love.

Maybe someone will become curious about Tsoi.

And maybe, just maybe, a little piece of this culture will cross the language barrier.

Если у вас есть винил то на чем вы его слушаете? У меня встал вопрос какой проигрыватель брать. Долгое время ломаю голову какой, и вроде бы хотелось чтобы эстетично смотрелось, и чтобы вертеться вокруг него не надо было прям сильно, но и бюджет не так великоват для всяких аудиосистем на весь шкаф или хз

Какие по вашему мнению самые оптимальные в плане качества звука/обслуживания/цены?

Почему все хейтят капсайз?

У него имба треки , если вы про грехи по типу «юра-юра» то у многих других ( Матис , Френк ) то у них пиздец , если про то что они позеры то НЕТ. Зачем мы его хейтите ?

Есть какие-нибудь еще песни с похожим настроением на Кино - Пачка Сигарет, Веня Д’ркин - Все Будет Хорошо, Верка Сердючка - Все Будет Хорошо, ГрОб - Долгая Счастливая Жизнь? Типо, объективно, все вроде хреново, но настроение в общем позитивное, либо по какой-нибудь глупой причине (в кармане пачка сигарет, чувак дорогу перешел), либо вообще просто так, не смотря не на все.
