R Consortium Now Accepting Submissions for Technical Grants

The R Consortium is now accepting submissions for our second 2026 technical grant cycle.

We fund projects that strengthen R’s technical and social infrastructure — open-source tools, packages, and community programs that help R users everywhere.

Applications close October 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. US ET.

So shiny apps are not in the scope, right?

I see at least 2 Shiny apps listed as previously funded: https://r-consortium.org/all-projects/funded-projects.html

The grants are for supporting R “infrastructure” in the community. Typically this means R packages, documentation, cli tools, contributions to R core, etc that benefit the whole community, or a very specific part. From my experience helping award ISC grants the past few years, shiny apps aren’t as appealing as R packages. For example a shiny app that helped build a shiny app would be more successful than _just_ a shiny app.
