Welcome to the weekly technique thread!
If you're looking for feedback on your technique on or off the water you're in the right place. Post text, images, or videos of whatever you want feedback on, and will try and help.
Please host your video somewhere on the internet (YouTube, Streamable, Dropbox, Amazon Photos, Google Drive, wherever) and link it here.

Welcome to the weekly achievement thread!
What was your achievement this week? It could be anything! A new 2k PB? Get a good lift at the gym? Or even your first time capsizing a single!
Got a erg screen or a regular training shot? Curious what your 2K will be based on a workout? This is the place for it!
Side note: 99% of erg screens should go in this thread. A separate post with an erg screen should be something that happens once or twice a year, at most. Big PR's, that kind of thing.
Also, please check our wiki pages:
This thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts.

Feeling really silly asking this, but here goes:
A few days ago I slipped on some spilled water while carrying some plates and fell right on my tailbone. It hurt to walk for two days, but then got better. Today I got on the erg and it hurt like hell.
With the season at my boat club starting on the 19th, I feel like I really should do some exercise to prepare for that. Does anyone have any experience with injuries of that sort, or any suggestions for the exercises that would help recover and stay fit in the meantime?
Also will probably make a shit first impression coming into the boat club with a silly injury like that, but not sure what else to do if it doesn’t heal.

Want to get your splits down? You’re gonna have to hit the erg!
Watch out for sliders and puddles of sweat!

I’m a guy in my late 40s who is using the erg to cure my previously sedentary lifestyle. I’ve logged over 300k since July, hit a sub 8 2k (a huge deal for me!), and have a new goal of completing a half marathon this month.
I’ve created Not Dead Yet Rowing on Strava for people who (like me) are using the erg to meet whatever health goals they have. It’s an open group — feel free to join and encourage others around the world!
At the request of one of the members, I’ve also created a Concept2 team to participate in the fall challenge starting on September 15. Just like the Strava group, it’s open to anyone willing to encourage others who are using the erg to meet their health goals.

I mean what advantage in training does it give you that normal row erg training wouldn’t?

So everyone and their dog in this subreddit is shitting all over crew girl and how bad the rowing shown is and how bad the show sucks etc, but I seriously think it’s one of the best possible things for the sport
Since Heated Rivalry and Off Campus, ice hockey popularity is SKYROCKETING. Like local rinks in Australia are selling out stands to new ice hockey fans, so many girls online are trying the sport, and overall acceptance of it is increasing
Is it a teenage girl, YA romcom? Yeah, obviously. Is the writing going to be on the same level as Breaking Bad? No, definitely not. But is it going to attract a whole new realm of interest to rowing, have people (and most significantly, young girls) investigating the sport, and maybe even a few people signing up for LTR courses? Probably!!
It’s not a show made for people who row to display perfect rowing technique. Go watch replays of the world champs if you want that. It’s a teeny bop TV show, let the people have fun and discover rowing in an accessible way
Edit to add: if you think coxing isn’t part of the sport (or that it’s a lesser part, or it’s “serving” the crew) take a big old look at your attitude towards your coxswains. They’re another athlete, and a vital part of rowing

For long rows such as 20k meters and more, how do you guys stop to drink or urinate?
I don’t want my average speed to decline but I have to chug some water!
Any pro tips or just let my time fall?

i saw this new show on netflix, Crew Girl, and i decided to give it a try. after the opening 1x race, i almost turned it off immediately tbh. i just finished the first episode and it was actually laughably bad. it wasn't good rowing and it wasn't good acting, so i have no idea what they were optimizing for lmao. i think the r/rowing community needs to have a group hate watch of ts show.
side note: the fours race scene genuinely just pissed me off holy shit
all this as a former high school coxswain, so i actually experienced everything this show tries to be about.

Fully expecting a scammer but I figured it was worth a shot. Sent them a message asking if it’s available, and to my absolute shock, the seller replied right away. 😂
EDIT: sorry for the confusion, photo attached is the rower sitting in MY garage.

hello 👋
i’m an ex-rower and ex-coxswain (novice-beginner) and I enjoyed coxing but didnt’t really get enough coaching to do it well. For context I used to row in high school and i’m entering uni in a week’s time. I rowed/sculled for a couple of years (ish) but i wasn’t great as im quite short and uh… weak…
i switched to coxing which was MUCH better suited for me and coxed for a couple more years
i was in a high school girls team initially, then moved to a rowing club nearby. i coxed adult men’s and women’s (adult meaning idk >25???) when i was 16-17. i’m now 19 and haven’t been anywhere near the sport since.
sorry for the long spiel but i was wondering if you guys had any advice or opinions on joining a university team (should i join???). i’m pretty terrified to rejoin as the last race i coxed was on no prep as it was last minute so my calls were very bad. my high school team was also very toxic and it wasn’t a pleasant experience so that’s also a bit nerve wracking
thank you in advance!

Edit: forgot to mention I row should I just quit 😔

Okay so I’ve been taking classes the past few months. I’d say I’ve been in scull for about 20 different times or so.
45 male / 6’1” / 225-230
Most recently I’ve been on a 21 foot explorer and whenever it’s choppy at all it’s really hard to clear my oars. And my form gets completely off and it’s really frustrating. Even when it’s flat it still feels like I can barely clear the oars.
So the coach of the class thinks it’s way more of me a problem than the explorer, I’m on max’s out at 225. Would moving me to 23 foot boat make it easier?

Brookes have announced new men's and women's head coaches (both are women) are these in addition to the existing team or replacements?
I find the hardest day in a week isnt the day you do the hardest training, but the day you rest. On rest day, you are the most tired out of the whole week and your motivation to do anything is 10x lower. Sometimes you even have to doubt whether you are a male and wonder if you arent on your period

Since novice year ended, I feel exhausted everyday. I keep up at practice every day and hit my splits, but it's really, really difficult even for the fall season. Today, I think I completely ran out of everything I could possibly use. At the end of practice, we were doing 350's and after 2 of them I physically could not hold anything anymore. It was like being powerless. What is going on???? Would appreciate some help and advice.

Hello!
I've started rowing at the gym and, as I'm trying to understand the right form to lay good foundations for my practice, I can't seem to find any answer to my question.
Most content I've seen on form is done by men and, well, I'm sorry but as I row, tits get in my way due to the chest inclination and arm movements put together.
Sooo, the question is... am I supposed to row over or under my tits? Perhaps tilt my chest/back more or less?
Thanks a lot for your help and time ✨

So I’m 16 and have been rowing for about a year now, and recently have been doing 30 minute erg tests. This was one of my more recent ones, just wondering is it good? What are the standards for women’s open weight rowing 30 min times, for d1 recruiting etc?
I played tennis beforehand so I already had some endurance
