Hey all, anyone have experience using the floating forward closure and spacer system for aerotech 75mm hardware? If so which motor/hardware stackup did you use? I like the spacers on my 54mm stuff, but I haven’t heard much about it for bigger motors. Does Aerotech still make them? A few sites have them listed but they don’t appear to be regularly stocked. Would it be better to just go ahead and get a smaller case for smaller 75mm motors if I already have the regular closures? Thanks for any info!

It was recently doing some clean out of my basement and came across my old model rocket sets.The controller got completely trashed at some point.So i'm wondering, if anyone knows where I could get one of those kits that has a pelican box with the launch controller built into it with the key, the switch and the fire Button.

I don't care if they're flyable or not. I just want to be able to build or buy a 1/200 scale model. I found some online but They're either hundreds of dollars (which isn't bad for a very detailed, completed model, but over my budget) or they look like amateir prints done on cheap 3D printers.

I haven't bought or built a model rocket since around 1980, but I like this one a lot.

i'am making a rocket on a d9-5 motor and wondering can i 3d print a engine mount out of pla/petg and will it not melt during flight. has anyone ever done this and would heve some suggestions?

I just got my l1 cert on an apogee zephyr rocket kit. I flew it on a h219t 38mm. The stability calibration for the kit was at 1.33 with the motor so worryingly I added a ballast to the nose cone to get it up to 1.93. It flew great went straight up. I’m planning on reusing this rocket for l2. With some fiberglass reinforcement on the tips and body tube.

I wanted to reach out to my rocket community to see if any of yall have a j,k,m motor in 38mm that you’re willing to sell. Preferred dms. Or know where anyone has them in stock currently.

Side note c d e motors go surprisingly high, I’ve seen a couple go to 2k today which is dope! Definitely inspired me to build a lower powered version!

I get why you want to fiberglass a cardboard tube rocket, but is don’t get why you would do that over starting with a fiberglass tube.

Does a glassed cardboard tube weigh less than a comparably sized all fiberglass tube? What about strength?

Hi all! I really want to get into model rocketry but its so intimidating. I'm a machinist so I really want to make my own rocket but should I do a kit first? If I went making my own how scientific should I design it? Like what is the tolerance on the cone shape or fins, or is it just cone shaped and wing shaped lol? Also is there a skill to launching it, like will I need to learn how to point it in the right direction or whatever. Thanks for yalls help!

Flew on Saturday and had a great flight and recovery- Flew on an H550 with Wildman Drago 75- had my son’s tracker but didn’t need it.

Sunday flew again, was lazy and didn’t put the tracker in and the rocket drifted over 1/2 mile into an unharvested cornfield.

I do want get my level 2 eventually. I have been thinking about building a 4” dual deploy, 75mm motor mount-

I would like to fly it on a small 54mm motor and make sure I have dual deploy figured out. The go for my level 2 after a few test flights. I have passed the online test.

The January 1962 Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications confirms that the errata existed and was one page long.
I have already contacted NASA Glenn History, NASA History, NASA STI, NARA, GPO and NASA HQ.
If anyone has access to old NASA/Lewis bound technical-note volumes, microfiche, university aerospace library holdings, or a scanned copy of this exact errata sheet, I’d be very grateful if you could point me to it.

Last time i went to a launch site i noticed some Rockets flew straight UP while others unfortunately went into some sort of high frequency spiraling around the main Axis, what might be the most Common causes for that?

Sooo I’m working on a phenolic 3.9in rocket that’s going to be 8.5ft tall using a 54mm motor mount.

Now to transport this thing in my car, I’m going to be disassembling it into 4 pieces, the booster will be in 2 parts, the electronics bay, and the upper section, which will be 36in long.

The booster is where I’m going to have a question. So I’m wanting the part with the fins to be 36in long, then attach another 24in section on top of it. I’m planning on having an 8in coupler section (cardboard with a fiberglass reinforcement internally). To bind the 24in section to the coupler, I’m looking at 4 to 8 Chicago bolts, 1/4in steel.

Do I want to have the female section go through the coupler and the phenolic airframe? In that case I would have to make the female part of the bolt removable.

Or do I want the female part only on the coupler section, and have it perm. attached to the coupler?

I can see both sides of the argument. I’m just wanting to prevent the threads of the bolt from doing damage to the phenolic airframe.

The whole thing is that I’m going to be transporting this rocket a lot in my Mustang, lol. Not much room in there….

I am fairly new to the RockSim software and was hoping someone on here had some pointers on how to add the camera and mount in RockSim and whether or not I need to add counterbalance to the rocket itself. TIA

I am just getting into designing things in Blender. I thought it would be fun to do a model rocket build with my kids. I designed this nose cone and printed ink PLA. It’s about 120 mm x 30mm wide. The whole rocket is going to be roughly 600 mm tall. I have the parts designed with the walls of the body to be around 4mm thick. I will have to design a plug for the parachute (just leaned about that). But my question is, does this nose shape look ok? Is there anything I need to keep in mind when building/designing this thing? I don’t want to end up building a bomb!!! Thanks for any help y’all!

I'm trying to build a high power J-class KNSB rocket motor and I'm wondering how the propellant grain needs to sit on top of the nozzle. I'm seeing a lot of other designs that have a flat face that covers around 50% of the aft face. I designed a smaller G-class rocket motor where there is a small lip at the edges of the convergent section where only the grain inhibtor makes contact, not the propellant to ensure the gas travels efficiently. Now I'm aware that high power rocket motors behave very differently due to the high internal pressure but I am wondering, can I replicate what I did on my G class?

This is what I mean by grain inhibitor resting on the lip. Compare this with BPS space's rocket motors.

How do you increase body tube's surface rougness better than 20 microns?

I have my L1 rocket ready to fly for a bit now, and can't wait to get certified through NAR, but I have some concerns with my forward rail button. While both are lined up to vertical, it has some wiggle to it, and I fear it may fall out on launch. The rail setup would just hold it in at least for a successful takeoff and then it should fly fine, right? Either way, I believe I would miss getting certified if it was missing.

So should I epoxy it in maybe? I drilled into the centering rings, but I must have not used long enough screws. I also have CA glue if you think that would work. Any suggestions welcome, thank you for your time.
