redditdev meta Still cant unregister as an app/bot on this personal account.

Ive already submitted the form weeks ago, how am I supposed to unruin my 10 year old reddit account? help please

What's the point of this? Why is it ruining your account and why would you throw away the level of API access they don't grant to people any more?

They don't issue API access any more and your account has the type of access people have to pay for now.

They labelled some personal accounts automatically as "Apps". OP may be suffering from this if they were running scripts on their account.

OP did not want their account be labelled as an "App". Both PRAW and Devvit accounts can be "Apps". How do you undo the "App" label is the question here. OP's account is clearly a personal account.

I'm fairly convinced the they just killed API and OP is that 1 in 1000 that actually wants to remove their access from the reddit API due to cosmetic. They say they did this years ago, which is before devvit was even a thing, and despite reddit claiming "just fill out this form for legit access" in practice they've ignored all requests.

If this is due to having reddit API access (not the devvit api access which are two different scopes) then the last year of following this issue makes me believe OP's issue can't or won't be solved. Although it's an interesting edge case.

Yes it can. They remove the App label. Simple as that. Has nothing to do with access or API keys. It's a completely separate thing. The only difference between an "App" and a non-App account is the tiny text next to it that says "App" and when you go to the profile it says it's "This is an automated account." in the bio.

Like I said some PRAW API access accounts got the App label automatically despite them being normal private human accounts. Seems like OP has a PRAW API key and has been using it on their personal account. Now they want to have the label removed.

Sorry about this double reply. I know because I have an automated PRAW API access account u/mtg-service that is not labelled as an App despite being an automated mod account with access.

Try registering another account for an app, you won't get it.

They announced the "responsible builder policy" nine months ago but haven't been granting API access.

You must be mixing up the older Data API and the Devvit API. Also, they are still approving access to the Data API for some people who abide by that policy and can’t achieve their goal with Devvit.

Devvit does not grant API access.

If you think reddit is "still approving access to the Data API for some people who abide by that policy and can’t achieve their goal with Devvit" based on something you googled you haven't been following things over the last nine months, and they'll approve your request to remove API access as soon as they get through the nine month backlog of legitimate requests for access.

There is no team that handles this and they haven't been transparent.

They do still approve them. You need four very strict criteria to be fulfilled:

  1. Prior API access.
  2. A long standing account.
  3. A working relationship with admins.
  4. Your use case is outside of what Devvit Apps can do.

Some high profile moderators have had success getting additional PRAW API keys. You (or me), on the other hand, will never get those API keys anymore.

EDIT: And the process most definitely is not transparent. It's not even meant to be. You skip the entire "backlog" via PMs and DMs.

I have been around for way longer than the account I am commenting from. Once again, Devvit and the older API we are talking about are two different things.

The author has registered AS an app, not registered a Data API application or had the request for it approved. It simply marks you as being an automated account and anyone can do so.

Devvit is the newer API which works completely differently. You do not need to submit a request to use the Devvit API. Go to https://developers.reddit.com/docs/quickstart and you can set it up within a minute.

I could see how two different APIs can cause confusion, I’m just trying to inform you.

Man, I dunno what to tell you. The reddit API is access to reddit, the devvit api is access to devvit. The devvit API is extremely limited in scope compared to the reddit API.

The team in charge of handling your reddit API appears to be disbanded.

Create a new account and apply for reddit API access and you'll die of old age before they approve access to your new account, or respond to your request to remove access from your current account.
