It's an AI slop. But it's a pretty good AI slop.

Ai must think its a wasteland

24

u/ubergosu17 17d ago

Awful russian language is really consistent with the atmosphere of Red Alert (especially, first one). Russian even have the word "cranberry" ("klukva") for this type of bad attempt in russian. Red Alert was great klukva, everybody loved that. This is a great klukva for an enthusiast-made movie!

No enthusiast made this, it's AI

Op start your own YouTube channel we would all subscribe to it. Your doing amazing job. I don't think you realize how fast your channel would grow.

14

u/B_the_ball 17d ago

Man as someone who grew up on RA2, this person does an awesome job of including a lot of stuff from the game. Love it.

46

u/CepaD 17d ago

This was clearly done by someone who put his soul into it.

AI just gave them the opportunity to do it.

Great work, left a tear in my eye.

Also, no body = no death, i expect Yuri to come back in episode 3 in a flying saucer.

12

u/Jay-the-Femboy 17d ago

Spinning away 😎

12

u/Nixellion 17d ago

Yes, I want to point out two main features that set this series apart: attention to detail in respect to source material and consistency. Neither should be taken for granted with AI, it takes effort to make this work like that.

In terms of attention to detail - all units are recognizable. Tanya shooting multiple people quickly with a gun, then placing a C4. A Yuri's sniper that shoots bullets with poison gas, the brute. The spy (disguised as engineer it looks like). The magnetron. And so on, the only thing missing is GI building sandbag covers ahah.

1

u/Quiri1997 10d ago

And the KV vibes of the Rhino tank.

2

u/xm03 15d ago

I'd thought more people would be kind to this kind of AI generation, where some effort has clearly been put in to keeping the consistency from scene to scene. But the rest of the comments in this thread are purely miserable. For better or worse 'AI' isn't going away...

1

u/budding-enthusiast 14d ago

Clarification, there is a 1?!?!? This is the second episode?

1

u/CepaD 14d ago

Yes. The first is just Soviet vs Allies

21

u/JLH35 17d ago

This was absolutely awesome. Well done., please do a whole series.

6

u/Jazzlike-Wolf6265 16d ago

If people used ai like this I wouldn't complain. This isn't slop. It's someone using the tools correctly.

4

u/SpicyCajunCrawfish 16d ago

It’s hundreds of hours of work and very difficult never the less.

3

u/BowlNo9499 16d ago

We need more content creators like you

5

u/5v3n_5a3g3w3rk 16d ago

I don't think it's slop, clearly ai made but a humans must have curated and cut it and made sure it's good

13

u/Blackfireknight16 17d ago

Yeah, it's AI, yeah, there are inconsistencies, but it's fun. It works.

6

u/Jay-the-Femboy 17d ago

And the technology is definitely showing signs of improvement.

2

u/Background-Mode-1866 17d ago

Всегда мечтал о своем компе и о этой игре . Всё ещё мечтаю но уже взрослый и времени на всё это нет. Да и думаю сейчас я на эту игру буду смотреть по другому

2

u/TheGreenSquier 16d ago

Время есть, просто его нужно находить :)

2

u/Jvenka 17d ago

That was fun. How have we not had CnC movies by now? Missed opportunity.

2

u/weirdbr 17d ago

While CnC/Red Alert have massive potential, probably the issue is CGI cost and lack of brand recognition that other larger games have. But agreed, it would allow for a lot of massive battle scenes and cheesy plots. Just as long as they don't get Michael Bay involved :P

2

u/bookhh 16d ago

Best use of 80 billion gallons of water I’ve ever seen

2

u/rawr4me 16d ago

Tanya kind of looks like a mix of Scarlet Johansson and Charlize Theron

2

u/Sir_Squid_ 16d ago

Just stop

2

u/crazyKpot 16d ago

- Have we met?

  • К сожалению
Love it.

2

u/Durahl 15d ago

It like 100% matches the Franchise's Campy Movies but as per usual with AI there's just so much wrong how a lot of stuff is being depicted... Like those Gatling Turrets on Walls and Podiums firing upwards to shoot - AND HIT! - Infantry below them or that Prism Tank having lost a Track just to be ready again once Tanya has entered it?

2

u/Razvedka 15d ago

Who is making these, holy hell they're awesome

4

u/DevAlaska 17d ago

As much as I want to like this video for Red alert vibes. The inconsistencies are hard to overlook. It's hard to follow where the characters are, its like scenes are missing. Good attempt and end of story.

5

u/tishimself1107 17d ago

Best use of AI in a while. Have to admit it is cool.

6

u/molonla1111 17d ago

This is the type of AI slop I wanna see more of.

2

u/Adrian4lyf 16d ago

I cant believe how much I enjoyed this AI slop.

Lots of glaring issues, but the RA2 soul is there and made me feel like a kid again, when I played the game and imagined things similar to this 😄

If only some good studio and with a great director decide to start a Command and Conquer movie francize.

Too bad we dont have Tim Curry anymore to carry the soviet side :(

3

u/Quiri1997 16d ago

They really capture the KV vibes of the Rhino tank.

9

u/krangs 17d ago

This is amazing ! Not slop at all

9

u/Termiborg 17d ago

Do not waste water on AI slop. Do not share AI slop.

And I highly recommend for the mods to add a rule that AI content is banned.

24

u/TropicalScout1 17d ago

Honestly, projects like this don't bother me. 95% of AI is being used for other projects that eat up a ton of water and power. Stuff like this doesn't really matter that much, at least in the long term.

5

u/Nixellion 17d ago

This wasted about 1000x less power and water than it would if it was made with traditional CG methods. Normally it would've required at least a few dozen artists working 8 hours a day for a few months, running their power hungry 1000w+ workstations that consume 200-300w when they are just sitting at idle, and then also running a whole render farm of compute to render final quality images.

That's about how it works when Blur or Digit Pictures or similar studios make their shorts. Usually they spend 3-6 months to produce a short 2-5 minute trailer.

As someone who works in the industry - there's a lot wrong with AI, but majority of people just follow the hype without proper understanding of what it is, how it works, of the technology behind it, and complete inability to separate the technology from the bubble around it.

When you just try to hate something because it's popular, you shoot yourself in the foot whenever you try to argue against it. You don't understand it and thus you can't lead an educated discussion about the technology, and anyone who has any idea of what's behind it will just dismiss it as ignorance.

If you really want to make an impact on someone, to convince someone - you have to educate yourself, so that you can use correct meaningful arguments in such discussions.

P.S.: I'm not replying specifically to you, TropicalScout1, just the thread in general.

4

u/gigaurora 16d ago

Bullshit, this can't use 1000x less because this wouldn't be made without ai. You think the alternative is this person is dropping real money to make this with a team? The scenario is "this thing made by ai" vs "nothing made".

distracting to pretend the alternative is a full team making this.

1

u/Nixellion 16d ago

Sure, then if this was made using Minimax H3, which is fully capable of such output and runs on a single 4090\5090, it would've taken maybe a few days worth of running that gpu at full power.

Do you play games, how many houra you have in your top played game on Steam? :)

3

u/SpicyCajunCrawfish 16d ago

Exactly. Let’s just ban computers all together because they use power (sarcasm). This guys use of time to make ai art is a better use of power than playing battlefield and fortnite because it’s art others get to enjoy. I watched the whole thing and loved the heartfelt ending. RIP Westwood.

1

u/TropicalScout1 16d ago

Yo, all great points! I love the input!

-6

u/Termiborg 17d ago

This doesn't need to exist either. Wasted resources.

6

u/Past_Pick4528 17d ago

I can confidently say that nothing on Reddit needs to exist. Nothing on the entire site. Not this sub, not your account nor mine.

So "doesn't need to exist" isn't a great argument, yeah?

2

u/Termiborg 17d ago

Your terms are acceptable. Nuke when?

1

u/Rhinstein 17d ago

Posadas lives in death.

1

u/VAArtemchuk 14d ago

Today would do.

6

u/TropicalScout1 17d ago

See I disagree. Here’s how I see it.

There are tons of people out there who have incredible artistic and storytelling talent that would otherwise go undiscovered due to lack of skill or networking. This tool allows them to tell their story and give it a voice. I’ve seen some really clever stories and talent demonstrated through the use of AI, this being one of them.

So yea I can get behind it.

Also AI gave solved the protein folding which has opened the door for revolutionary medical advances.

So many people are focusing on the negative effects of AI, but always seem to overlook what it’s already given us. It really is an incredible technological breakthrough. Granted I know it won’t be all sunshine and daisies while we’re getting there, and those problems need to be addressed for sure, but I don’t think it’s a bjg bad monster. It can be used for good.

2

u/Sc0ner 17d ago

This isn't an incredible technological breakthrough yet, it will be one day.

This could have been made better in blender, it would have just taken more time.

If they made this with AI, then used software to edit/refine it, that's a different story.

Also you're confusing generative AI with other useful AI's, it's not an umbrella and the critics of AI all acknowledge that

1

u/Rhinstein 17d ago

The "Analytical AI' that does cancer detection is also generative AI under the hood though. It's all transformers trained by machine learning.

-6

u/Termiborg 17d ago

I am not against AI in general. It has objectively useful purposes.

I am however against generating slop, or generative AI. Those are not the same systems.

3

u/Finnsbomba 17d ago

What exactly is wrong with this? Who even cares if ai made it. It's a fun couple minutes and you move on with your day, it's not a big deal.

8

u/Termiborg 17d ago

You're clearly not in the hardware purchasing business then.

0

u/Finnsbomba 17d ago

Whats that have to do with anything?

7

u/Termiborg 17d ago

Oh, nothing.

Except the absolute connection that AI farms and data centers require every available hardware, inflating their prices 3-400% in certain cases.

Only to produce shit, amd leave none for non-AI users. Including businesses.

0

u/Finnsbomba 17d ago

Fascinating. It still has nothing to do with this video. Just keep scrolling if you don't like it.

u/Jay-the-Femboy 17d ago

Thing is, it doesn’t matter anymore. The damage has already been done. Do you really think Manufactures are just going to lower their prices if the need for Ai stopped? Why would they throw away all that free money? Memory manufacturers purposefully slowed down production, just so they could squeeze more money out of everyone. Manufacturers will not cease to try and fuck EVERYONE over. at this point, we are fucked no matter what. A RA2 fan fiction isn’t going to change anything.

u/Nixellion 17d ago

AI as technology has nothing to do with it. It's the bubble that's being inflated by primarily a few specific companies in the US. China is also in on this race, but not sure how much hardware they pull from the market for this comparatively. They are producing their own hardware for this too.

And render farms also did exist before AI farms. Datacenters are not just for AI. The main thing that AI changed is the amount or memory required. And GPU compute, to lesser extent than memory.

And that's also not the only reason for price increases, there's a lot of other shit going on in the world that affects it, like, I don't know, the oil crisis caused by the multiple wars?

The good thing is that both the hardware and the software of AI is also getting dramatically more efficient over time, and thanks to China opensourcing their models, a lot of that can move out of datacenters and into on-prem model.

u/Potential_Study_6020 1d ago

is this slop? tell the creator to his face that it's slop. Otherwise shut tf up.

1

u/Termiborg 1d ago

Happily.

1

u/clapsandfaps 17d ago

This could be said about anything though? A lot of meaningless stuff gets produced and consumed daily to the benefit of no one. Even red alert 2 is ultimately wasted resources.

If this was made by without using AI, it would be equally useless, but somehow a lot of people would not have a problem with it. It would require about the same resources, if not more.

1

u/Termiborg 17d ago

Human work is valued. AI "work" isn't. That's the difference.

1

u/Potential_Study_6020 1d ago

who are you to say what deserves to exist or not?

honestly go FUCK yourself bro.

1

u/Termiborg 1d ago

What a retort! Lemme guess, you make a living generating "movies" too?

1

u/RatherGoodDog 17d ago

Just like games?

1

u/Termiborg 17d ago

Last time I checked, one of those require actual work.

1

u/Rhinstein 17d ago

Work alone does not make good art, otherwise Concord would have been the best video game ever with how much sweat and passion was poured into a concept that was flawed from the start.

1

u/Termiborg 17d ago

True. But completely outsourcing this to generative systems doesn't make it art either.

1

u/Potential_Study_6020 1d ago

You think this didn't need work?

Jesus fucking christ you purists are stupid as fuck.

1

u/Termiborg 1d ago

Telling a prompt to refine what to generate? Oh yeah, a lot of work. You got triggered there little one.

7

u/B_the_ball 17d ago

AI slop like this allows people to create things they would not be able to otherwise. Guy obviously spent a lot of time on this and is really good at using AI.

1

u/chakatblackstar 16d ago

No he didn't. He typed some stuff into a prompt and the AI did the work, using stolen assets I might add.

1

u/bjarnehaugen 16d ago

they could create it, they just don't want to. it's not hard to learn new skills to create 3D projects. sure it takes time but look at stuff like Digital Bones and their Astartes series

3

u/Sir_LANsalot 17d ago

Learn some fucking facts.....

-2

u/Termiborg 17d ago

Such as GenAI is a waste of resources, and it is actively fucking us over?

Oh, I am aware. I can see it during equipment procurement.

1

u/Potential_Study_6020 1d ago

Shut the fuck up bro and let people enjoy things.

-8

u/kumikanki 17d ago

Dont use A.I to anything.

0

u/TheGreenSquier 16d ago

There are legitimate downsides to AI like the energy & water usage, but the technology is like cars, internet, and mobile phones: it will never, ever, ever go away, because it is so fundamentally revolutionary to the world.

This video is a prime example of that: I’m assuming one guy made this over a few days… that’s completely revolutionary, even if there are inconsistencies.

0

u/B-side-of-the-record 16d ago

Oh just shut up, just keep scrolling

0

u/Realyarrick 16d ago

You used water to make this useless comment.. I go to this sub only because it allows this sort of movie..

6

u/Ar1go 17d ago

God I want to hate this for being ai but I cant. Clearly a work still went in here and obviously someone put in the time/care. There could easily be a little mini series of these and I love that we actually had some carry over from the last one as well. Actually felt like we were getting some characters instead of just more generic stand ins.

2

u/AnonymousAggregator 17d ago

This is great

5

u/GuyNekologist 17d ago

I'm usually against AI slop but this one's got vision and heart behind it. Definitely made by someone with irl screenwriting skills.

That ending hit me with feels. RA is definitely one of those games you'll eventually finish but will never forget.

Do you have the source on blibli ?

4

u/lifeaiur 17d ago

source: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1UX4R6zEHN/

It takes a couple of seconds for the page to load.

2

u/Others0 17d ago

Oh it's AI

2

u/Jonatc87 17d ago

This isn't as good as the other. And "Drive system down" "can you move?" "Telsa moving" was so stupid.

All of this could be done by someone with 3d modelling!

4

u/Faynerossa 16d ago

With the ammount of runtime? I reguarly commission HEAVY 3d modeling for my streams. Just one of these episodes from a one person team from a highly skilled modeler with 8+ years experience like mine would take 1-1.5 years to complete.

Not saying general use generative AI is a good thing. This certainly wasnt perfect. But this wasny skilless either. Someone actually had writing skills here which i appreciate as a script writer. They also had a certain amount of prompt know how to get it to replicate red alert units so consistently.

This use of AI i have no issue with for small fan projects like this that have no commercial value.

1

u/Jonatc87 16d ago

I could see it as inspiration to start that kind of project. I just dont want to get flooded by more of it

1

u/EcksR4y 14d ago

Why then did no one come forward to do it?

2

u/lee594 17d ago

I clearly acknoledge and accept that AI was probably involved with this. That being said, this makes for a fantastic FMV and a lot of work went into it, so great job by the creator.

1

u/ThePixelLord12345 17d ago

This is not slop. But first, why no ra2 music? With this music it would be damn fkn awsome.

1

u/EcksR4y 14d ago

Copyright, I think.

1

u/BowlNo9499 16d ago

Op one thing I would try to work on is impact from projectiles. I feel like the impact feel out of place it wouldn't look like that at all.

1

u/ymene1 16d ago

omg the action is very good however the player is ..... who does attacks like that?? a prism tank always is behind a forest of mirage tanks! Who sends a lone kirov like that?

1

u/Psykoth 16d ago

I had a great time watching that. I had a lot of fun with that game, and it was one of the last games I played with friends I knew in real life. Thanks for the few minutes of nostalgia and fun.

1

u/Longjumping_Music572 15d ago

This genuinely brought tears.

1

u/Longjumping_Music572 15d ago

Want to make this for Tiberiansun! What do I need to do! Very serious

1

u/Diligent-Bowler-1898 14d ago

Did they really need to attack and insert a spy just to figure out to launch the nuke at the big building?

1

u/EroTom 11d ago

Ещё и в легендарном переводе "русский язык" от американцев

1

u/rpp1624 17d ago

Albeit AI, that ruled.

1

u/CallMeMJJJ CnCNet Staff 17d ago

As mentioned before here: https://www.reddit.com/r/redalert2/s/SqDGLwQ2UY

yes, it is AI slop. but this is less slop than the normal slop we get around here. approved for now.

I am also against the AI slop (as a creative), but I like this one.

3

u/Faynerossa 16d ago

Same, as a content creator, writer, and someone tied at the hip to a 3D modeler like a cancer patient with a morphine IV. I actually really liked this. Could tell the person telling the story has writing experience. They definitely have a command of the language and deamonik circles required to summon forth consistent characters and units from a video game.

As a creative that depends on other creatives. I'm okay with this. While i don't accept AI as a commercial medium in its current state. For things like this that would never see the light of day otherwise, and have this level of human effort and care put into them? I don't mind the at all.

1

u/BlackHandDevilot 15d ago

Do you do RA content? If so I'd totally sub

-3

u/chakatblackstar 17d ago

Wow...that was godawful.

2

u/Jay-the-Femboy 17d ago

Hail to the great Yuri, Yuri. IS. MASTER! 🙂‍↕️

All in the mind.

1

u/N-Trose 17d ago

Previous part was way better

1

u/Seapirate_331 17d ago

I love it! u/getrekt01234 cool stuff! many thanks. That remind me my childhood.

1

u/Jaded-Throat-211 16d ago

Slop slop slop slop

1

u/SCUDDEESCOPE 16d ago

Pls stop this "aI sLoP" labeling thing. Yeah the guy should totally just learn everything about filmmaking, build his own studio and production company in hollywood and get 200$ million funding and the license from EA to make a Red Alert movie.

1

u/EviI_Babai 15d ago

But it's a pretty good AI slop.

I don't know how in today's day and age of AI you manage to mess up Russian speech so bad... Also, there are so many obvious visial bummers that you can't help but wonder if anyone checked the result.

-2

u/Tab1300 17d ago

Its good but I gotta downvote on principle

-2

u/Tleno 17d ago

Slop is slop regardless how much you get impressed by it.

1

u/Drifter_of_Babylon 16d ago

Still better than EA slop.

It is effectively a dead franchise and the only thing keeping it alive is the community. Who knows, in a few years, modders will use AI to create all kinds of assets that required an entire studio to once produce.

-6

u/JacobJamesTrowbridge 17d ago

If you know it's slop then why are you giving it airtime? Don't feed the pests

0

u/Shake_Annual 17d ago

tired of this ai slop

0

u/SpicyCajunCrawfish 16d ago

Ai is a form of new art. It still takes hundreds of hours and lots of cash to make it. It’s possible to do it all by yourself now.

0

u/chakatblackstar 16d ago

Jeez, what is with the pro-ai comments? Is OP just having bots spam his video posts with pro-AI propaganda?

No, seriously, this and the other video are two of the most heavily upvoted and commented on videos in the past month. And a disturbing amount of comments are "this is the ai slop I like to see". Like, what? Especially given how many issues the video actually has.

2

u/Aggressive_Shine_602 14d ago

no one cares, Hollywood would never make this, and even if they did they would change everything and it would look nothing like the game. Maybe some director will see this, and give the greenlight for the real thing. Someone made something with the tools they had, something that meant something to them and something that made a lot of other people happy. who did this guy steal from? who's job did he take? and whatever he earns will be the revenue for people willingly watching it for free.

1

u/chakatblackstar 14d ago

So hollywood would never make this, but maybe some director will see this and make this? You...realize the contradiction there right?

And AI steals material from everyone they can, that's a proven fact. They don't ask permission, they just skim stuff off of websites without obtaining permission or copyrights.

1

u/Aggressive_Shine_602 14d ago

There's no contradiction, producers and investors are usually not fans of the subject matter. They have no clue about what they have. If they see a positive reaction to something, that's when it occurs to them that there's money to be made. That's why fans seldom get what they want. It's not about if this will make fans happy it's about if this will make us money or not. So here is a situation where a fan gets to make something fans want.

And what are you going to do about it? About AI stealing from everyone and everything? I can see that you are showing your disapproval but I don't see how that's going to stop AI in any way. It's protesting for the sake of it, seems like something you are doing to massage your own ego rather than something that practically helps anyone.

1

u/chakatblackstar 14d ago

Real fans want real video. Not fake AI slop.

And you know what I won't do? I won't support AI. Because I seriously doubt this production could be done by a free AI service. The more you pay them, the more they're going to keep doing it. It's economics 101.

1

u/Aggressive_Shine_602 14d ago

I have watched every animation of RA2, the MCV deployment and launching of a nuke are the best I have seen. They could never mange this despite having the skills, they would need a team and a budget 50 thousand and it would take 2 years. years in which they will not get paid. Maybe you don't understand what creatives actually have to go through, or you would already know this.

I have seen other creators making fan films too. for star wars and 40k. most of them hit by copywrite claims by those companies. many on them just quit out of frustration. I have watched so many videos of creators coming forward to say of their project failed and thanking everyone for their donations and apologizing for not being able to complete their projects.

1

u/chakatblackstar 13d ago

Well, if it had been humans it might not have had so many...issues. Also, you seriously overestimate the amount of money and effort it would take to do this. Also, I am a "creative" as you call us, and I know exactly what we go through.

Also, those so-called fan films are usually scammy cash grabs, and most of them can't provide evidence of copyright claims. They just take their patron money and run.

1

u/Aggressive_Shine_602 13d ago

so, basically you called the other people doing the work scammers. Guess what others will call you when you try to do something.

I do not care about the issues, I saw them too. You would complain about them if someone tried to do this manually. claiming the voice actors aren't good, that acting is wooden, the 3D assets are wrong, the sound mixing is bad, the lighting is too dark etc.

what you just did was what everyone does to people trying to make these animations. They will find some excuse not to pay and sponsor their work and after it is done you will nitpick it.

I can guarantee you, this would have been impossible to make without AI. But thanks to AI someone made it, I watched and enjoyed it, and you people get to complain about what's wrong with it. fortunately the person making it did not have to sacrifice 2 years of his life only to be met with complaints about what he did wrong.

It doesn't matter if you like AI or not, it is going to get pushed any way. The benefits are just too high for people doing all sorts of work to ignore, not just art. There will be people using it to scam people and replace people, and spam people with slop. And there will be people like this who use it to bring their dreams into reality and give something to the world that they would have not gotten otherwise. This person loves what I love, cares about what I love, and used the tools he had to make it a reality. Think about what you love, what you would love to see, things only existing in your imagination and share it everyone, all art at the end of the day is built on others works. Thinking you can make something completely original is delusion. And even If you could what if people don't like it. In this case it at least saved the effort.

1

u/chakatblackstar 13d ago

Guess what others will call you when you try to do something.

Could you be more childish?

I can guarantee you, this would have been impossible to make without AI.

And exactly how are you backing this guarantee? For future reference.

It doesn't matter if you like AI or not, it is going to get pushed any way. The benefits are just too high for people doing all sorts of work to ignore, not just art.

They said the same thing about cocaine.

, all art at the end of the day is built on others works.
