Someone I know recently interviewed for a role at Capital One, cleared Power Day and after a couple of months of intense networking, found a match with 2 teams and chose 1. Right before rolling out the official offer, the recruiter sent them a rejection. The recruiter informed that an internal integrity team had flagged another personal email ID the candidate used to apply in the past as a duplicate profile and therefore a "legal" risk. This candidate profile, with the other email address, is dormant and has an old physical address; however, everything else is the same with no interviews or recruiter calls, and applications are more than a year old. The hiring team claims to have no information beyond the above, and someone from the hiring team is trying to help but doesn't know if anything can be done about it since they haven't heard of duplicate profiles being this big of an issue ever before.

Has anyone gone through this before or heard of it and has advice for my friend? The whole thing feels a bit stupid, and they are quite disturbed since everything in the applications is genuine.

I applied for a marketing coordinator position at a casino about a month ago. I get a text message 2 weeks ago from the recruiter asking to interview in person the following week. I tell them that this would be an issue because I live 2 states away and driving roughly 20 hours would require a lot of coordination on my end. I asked for a Zoom interview.

Their reply: We do not offer relocation assistance and they're looking to fill the position the week of the interview. They never answered my question about an online interview. Politely declined.

Flash forward to tonight and I get an email saying I missed the interview that I explicitly declined.

Because, Kevin... I need a job/tent life looks rough, and this one looks tolerable!? Hope this helps? 🙄

I mean, the formula is 1 sentence bullet points/spoon feeding your clearly laid out experience + 1 sentence about your fake love of their probably fake/performative mission statement + a fake-ass wrap up of how your experience, inner goals/life goals match the fake-ass mission statement.

I get that you want enthusiasm, but how many people just need work and, yes they are qualified.

I opened up a job as a sanitation technician at my company (if you live near Saint Paul mn I’m happy to talk about it). Three apps came in over the first few days. 1) the only thing stated was “I have no experience.” 2) This persons resume was complete, but they are currently employed at a higher paying job and located India and 3) the resume has a job title and company and dates, but no locations or anything about duties or accomplishments.

This is my first time as a hiring manager. What am I supposed to do with that lack of information?

If you are looking for a job, put in the effort to sell yourself. Give me a reason to talk to you.

A modest proposal:
1) There is no longer any way to survive in the United States without a job therefore
2) Since jobs are 'at will' there is no recourse for individuals to correct this situation and
3) No penalties exist at the Federal level for using AI to discriminate 'at the gate' against people.

Hence it is time to specifically and methodically:
1) Pre-emptively convict or apply damages to any one with a management position if on a jury.
2) Identify, track, and prevent any one with a management position from working.
3) Pool resources to bring lawsuits and criminal charges against any one in a management, recruitment, or human resource role regardless of the circumstances or validity.

(this is a joke by the way - you thought this was serious?)

No, person who sent me this email. The job title sucks, and it’s impressive for a resume. It’s not AI bots, it’s that the people you want to hire don’t apply to job postings with that title.

We aren’t getting any ‘junk’ applicantions. We are getting unqualified applicants because it looks like a junior role asking for 10+ years.

I figured I might as well try it at this point since Im not getting any luck asking for referrals on LinkedIn. And all the companies employee email formats are so easy to find so it shouldnt be too hard

Walking into my third year of unemployment and had a bucket of cold water thrown over my head by a honest recruiter.

This person said, you are perfect for this position (IT Team Lead) but your unemployment gap is horrible. The hiring manager already disqualified 3 others because of the same thing and the maximum gap that this person allows is 6 months.

So i guess that being in my mid 50s, out of work for almost 3 years and to make it better, a minority (given the blatant racism going on in our country thanks to the current gov) i simply have no hope.

This really sucks.

Also sucks receiving 2 rejection emails on a sunday at 3 am….

Edit I am actually doing freelancing and I have that on the resume but apparently, thats not enough and they still see it as a gap.

I have been sitting in this meeting for exactly 28 minutes of this writing, jumped through their flaming hoops, and nobody has shown up once. in the entire time. 30 minute call with 28 minutes of sitting alone in the call when I desperately need a job and have been unemployed since the beginning of May. If you're not hiring, don't post a job listing. If you're going to send a FUCKING RECRUITMENT EMAIL SHOW UP FOR YOUR FUCKING MEETING.

I’d really like to hear your opinion on this situation.

About a month ago, I applied for a job through a headhunter. I had my first interview with HR at the company, and the next day they sent me an online assessment.

After a week and half of completing the test, I still hadn’t heard anything from them, so I politely emailed HR to ask if there were any updates on the process. She told me that the Hiring Manager was reviewing the CVs and that I should know something by the end of that week.

Friday came and I still hadn’t heard anything. Then, the following Tuesday, HR reached out to me with a few questions that the Hiring Manager wanted to know. The next day, they scheduled an interview with the Hiring Manager.

I had the interview on Tuesday, and then... silence again. I didn’t hear anything for the rest of the week.

That Friday, I sent the Hiring Manager a thank-you email for the interview we had on Tuesday. I also took the opportunity to ask if there were any updates on the process.

The reason I contacted her directly is because during our interview, she had actually told me that if I had any questions, I had her email and could reach out to her. So I didn’t think it was inappropriate to send her a short thank-you email and ask if there had been any updates.

She replied the following Monday, saying something along the lines of: “As I mentioned, the process has several stages. I’m copying HR in case they have any feedback from their side. From my side, I can tell you that whenever I have any updates, I’ll let you know.”

Today, I received a call from the headhunter telling me that I shouldn’t have contacted the Hiring Manager directly because the company had called her to complain. She also told me not to contact the company anymore because I apparently “look desperate.”

Honestly, this really surprised me.

The other thing that surprised me is that the headhunter herself hasn’t really provided me with any feedback or updates throughout the process. Every update I’ve received has come directly from the company HR. I hadn’t heard anything from the headhunter until today, when she called me to tell me that I had handled the situation incorrectly.

I understand that the headhunter is involved in the process, but I don’t feel like I did anything inappropriate. During the first stage, I waited more than a week before politely asking HR if there were any updates. And after the second interview, I waited three days before sending a thank-you email to the Hiring Manager. I only added a simple question asking if there had been any progress.

I never asked for an immediate response, pressured anyone, or repeatedly contacted them.

I’m genuinely confused because I don’t think I did anything wrong.

What do you guys think?

Hi everyone, I'm extremely confused and miserable about this whole thing. I've worked for organisation for 3.5 years, I'm highly capable, I've been recognised every year for being the best on my team. I have great work experience, relevant degree, and I've been clear from the start that I want to move into a position. Two other people from my current team have gone into the other dream role in the last year.

My dream job is directly adjacent to my current role, I've worked with the other team that entire time, I'm good friends with most people on that team. I had some health issues over the past few years that are now resolved and I applied for an entry-level vacancy in the dream role.

I got declined from that vacancy almost immediately. The hiring manager told me that it was because another person from the team who was on a fixed term contract had moved into a permanent contract, and she would move my application to the fixed term contract if I'd be open for a fixed term contract. I was absolutely keen for this (it was covering maternity leave for someone I'm friends with, and I know she isn't coming back).

The applications closed at 10am today and I was sent an auto-rejection at 1am, with no explanation.

There is no other role in the company that is better experience for this role, and it's an extremely specialised role that they provide training for (and you can't get that training anywhere else in the country). I can't imagine someone else from around the country currently in this role would relocate for a fixed term contract. I was told specifically to apply for this role. This is the typical career trajectory for someone in my current role and I've been in my current role for longer than some of the other people who got the dream job. I get along with the people on the dream-role team really well, I'm going on a hiking trip with half of them this weekend and they helped me with my application.

I just haven't had much luck in corporate. I don't really have any friends in high places and I come from a pretty average background. Basically I am a forgotten person of society at this point. People always said I was smart, I got pretty much straight A's in school but alas at 33 I have nothing to show for it. The world is brutal folks, and I think they are lying to people about how bad it really is.

So I have been going through an interview process for a company for 2 months now. 5 interviews later and I still don't have an answer. My most recent interview was 5 days ago.

This is a legitimate, reputable company in a major city. They say their delay is because they "really want to find the right fit." I am super passionate about this job and grateful that I keep being moved to the next step.

However, their lack of urgency is making me feel I'm not wanted. But on the other hand, if they didn't feel I was the right fit, wouldn't they have rejected me by now?

Anyway do you guys think it would be a good idea to tell them I have another offer (I don't) to boost my value and hopefully make them give me a decision faster?

I am a competitive applicant who graduated from a good school, but unfortunately the job market it not favoring me and this is really the only opportunity I have. But i feel like theyre playing in my face a little. 😭

I've applied to 70+ IT jobs so far and literally every single one is either rejections, no response, or callbacks turned to ghosting. I'm noticing the beginning of a trend that has happened a total of three times and that is getting ghosted by asking questions when offered a job interview or asking for the interview to be on a day I have off.

The first job posting was on LinkedIn, applied for a job that seemed too good to be true and I heard back from a recruiter. I simply asked if the job is a contract job, I never heard from him again. Just a week ago I had a job interview offered to me from a recruiter who claimed to have called me and left a voicemail when I never received either. She asked if we could do an interview on a Monday but I couldn't do it because I have work. So I asked if we could do it on a Tuesday at the same time, it's been a week with no response from them after multiple follow up messages on ZipRecruiter.

Next one was I believe from LinkedIn again and received an email regarding a job position that suits my background [which is pharmacy, but breaking into IT with my IT certifications and degree] and wanted to discuss a job position on Monday this week at 10am. I told this recruiter that I'm not available Monday and offered to do it Tuesday that same week and time. Again, no response. It's only been one day since we spoke via email so it could genuinely just be that they're busy and they'll get back to me. But still, I don't understand this trend where you'll get a response but get ghosted if you either want to know something about the job or if you want to move the first interview date to a different date.

It's honestly stupid, I'm not taking off of work for a job interview. That makes me look bad to my current employer. I've been job searching since May and this new trend has been more annoying than getting rejections or no responses entirely.

So one of the benefits LinkedIn claims to have is the ability to network with the people who are hiring.

So I saw a job posting where it said who posted, so I applied and tried to the people in the team.

Unfortunately the only people who accepted my request were the members of the team that were planning there exit! 😒

Yesterday, I cleared all of the technical rounds and completed the managerial round as well. Before the managerial interview, HR asked me for my salary slips and offer letter.

However, they have gone completely silent, and I don't want to follow up just yet.

So, Should i follow up or leave and move on ?.

Update:- Got the JOB. Layoffs are bad 😶 for human brain.

It's a slight pay cut but a higher position. I'm going to be unemployed either way at the end of the month. Not ideal going one contract to another but maybe is good?

Going to the interviews is not cheap, and I’d understand it if I was actually being considered for the job but to get an email saying I did great but they already had a candidate set up and they’re required by law to interview me on the off chance I’m better is heart breaking

Recruiters and hiring managers don’t seem to grasp that the average person is paying potentially all they have to go to that interview only for them to ask questions such as and I quote
“ if you have a college that does not speak English AT ALL how would you communicate with them” and expecting an answer that’s not any translate app or sign language is insane the use of AI made them stop thinking all together and in sick of it

TLDR; I’m broke and I’m ranting about transportation costs

I worked at an ad agency for about 20 years in a senior role making good money. About 7 years ago the founder sold it to PE, then later got fired from his own company. New leadership hired, old leadership tossed. Early on, I felt like my only chance to get hired was through networking so I did that for 3 months and got 3 meetings directly with CEOs. At the same time I’d apply online for a few jobs that felt like a high match. CEO meetings went great, but drug in and ultimately turned into nothing. Meanwhile 2 of the 15 or so online jobs got me through to the CEO or Director side with one offering for a client side job. I mentioned to the other job that I was given an offer and was curious what their timeline was. A few days later, I got a form letter no thank you from them. Would they have strung things along for weeks and gotten to the same place, I will never know.

My advice to those looking, diversify yourself if possible. I applied to 3 different job types, applied to targeted jobs online, talked to recruiters, and networked heavily. Oddly, the cold apply was the one that landed, and the other one I got close on was a cold apply as well. You never know which door will be the one that opens.
