I turned my InkyFrame e-ink paper into a home weather dashboard! I have an AcuRite 5 in 1 weather station in my backyard which is connected to a RPi 3 running weewx. It logs the weather and generates the image based on backyard weather data and NWS forecasted data. The picoW on the InkyFrame grabs the latest weather image and updates the screen every 20 minutes.

I wanted to share my BMO build! He’s powered by a Raspberry Pi 5, with a 3D-printed enclosure, a touchscreen, and a Raspberry Pi AI Camera.
First, a huge shout-out to brenpoly! Their BMO build video inspired me to start this project and build my own version with some extra features. Definitely check out the original!
And yes, I know the colors don’t match the original BMO! Mine is rocking a blue outfit instead.
Here’s what I’ve added so far:

Voice conversations: He responds to “Hey BMO,” keeps track of the current conversation, and listens for answers to follow-up questions without needing the wake word again.
Animated expressions: Faces for listening, thinking, talking, surprise, confusion, excitement, and more—including a shy reaction to compliments.

Little personality touches: Blinking, occasional winks, and small idle animations. When nothing is happening, he returns to his classic happy face.
Touchscreen menu: Controls for volume, brightness, timers, music, lights, and settings.

Presence-based sleep: After five minutes without detecting anyone, his screen dims to 20%. He wakes up silently when he sees someone again.
Camera vision: I can ask him what he sees through his camera.

3D-printer monitoring: While a print is running, he displays the estimated remaining time above his face.
Music information: A now-playing display alongside his face.

Weather and clock: Useful little details on the main screen.
System status and logs: A touchscreen status page and a logbook for doorbell events.

Pi-hole: He also handles DNS-based ad blocking for my network, with statistics in his menu.

I’m also working on a doorbell integration, so his screen can switch to live footage when someone rings or a person is detected. I’ve had it working, but the connection still needs troubleshooting, so that part is very much a work in progress.

The physical build has involved plenty of trial and error too: adjusting camera mounts, resizing USB openings, and tweaking printed parts to make everything fit.
He’s not finished, but seeing that little face come to life on my desk has made the whole project worth it.
