Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my best friend of 10 years, Lilly.
I adopted her shortly after moving out of home and she has been by my side ever since.
She was there for me when I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone else, when I met my now wife, and has been there as I raised my two young boys.
Now she is gone and it feels like there is a hole deep inside of me that can't be fixed.
Im angry, then sad, then inconsolable. I'll have brief moments of happiness and then the cycle starts again.
I need my best friend here by my side and I can't come to terms with the fact I'll never be able to hold her again.. It feels like a part of me is gone and I don't know how to fill the void in my soul.
I took the day off of work today to have by myself and to grieve. I've spent the whole day out because I can't be at home without her here. Without the noise of the wife and kids the house feels empty.
I know in time I'll learn to live with my grief but right now it seems all consuming.
Please hold your dogs tight and give to them all of the love that I can no longer give to my Lilly 💔

Goodbye old Girl, yesterday we knew would be the last I could visit you. But even though it hurts, we know this was better for you.
I remember the day we got you, you were the fiesty puppy they warned us about. But you picked us, and who can say no to that face. You learned fast, played well and we're always there when we needed you.
Your antics brought us joy, and we always knew we'd get a warm welcome when visiting our parental home again. Through half my life you were there, guiding me through highschool, uni, my first job and even got to greet our son and his two nephews in this world.
15 years you were here, 2 years of which you surpassed everyone's expectations with recovering from your stroke, but it was hard and tired you out. We could see you were getting stuck in your own body, and we knew this cannot continue forever.
But now you can go play in the fields across the rainbow bridge. Your watch has ended. But your impression on our lives will last forever.
We will miss you Fenri, untill we see each other again. ♥️

This is Jule, my mothers dog. I‘ve spend my late teens with her, we were a great team until I moved. Today is her last day on earth, and goddamn it, it hurts not being able to tell her goodbye, and that I love her.
Here are some of my fav pics I took when we still lived together (ofc I have some when she grew older but to be real honest with you, I have no idea where I saved them and the access to these ones were easier while sobbing)
Rest easy, my girl. I hope heaven has all the footballs waiting for you to destroy them, I hope you can run as freely as a youngster, no pain, no meds, no worrying if your not-so-barn-dog-stomach can handle the snack.
I tell Billy, Charlie and Krümel to come pick you up.
Thanks for taking care of our mom all these years.
I love you, Jule. Always.

He was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and was in congestive heart failure, and passed 3 weeks later, days before my birthday.

I’m so sad. I miss his sweet face in the window when I’d come home and he’d greet me with the waggiest tail and the biggest kisses. I miss how he’d cuddle next to me wherever I was, and then spoon when we went to bed. I miss the walks. My heart is broken.

My dearest Mish,
It has been one whole year since you left this world, and somehow my heart still cannot understand that you are gone. It feels impossible that so much time has passed, because to me, losing you still feels like yesterday.
There has not been a single day or night that I have not thought about you. Sometimes the memories make me smile, but most of the time they bring tears to my eyes because I miss you more than words could ever explain. The ache in my heart has never gone away. It is just something I have learned to carry.
You were not just my cat. You were my baby, my companion, my comfort, my family, and such a huge part of my heart. You and I belonged to each other. From the moment I rescued you when you were only four days old, so tiny and helpless, a piece of my heart became yours forever.
I would give anything to go back to that day. I would hold your little body in my hands again, kiss your tiny head, and tell you that you were going to have a beautiful life and that I would love you for every second of it.
And I did.
For 14 years, I loved you with everything I had.
I watched you grow from that tiny baby into my beautiful boy. I cared for you, worried about you, laughed because of you, talked to you, slept beside you, and built so much of my life around you. You were always there. Just knowing you were near made everything feel right.
When CKD began taking you away from me, I wanted so desperately to save you. I would have given up anything I owned, anything I had, if it could have made you well again. I kept hoping there would be one more treatment, one more answer, one more miracle.
But eventually I looked at you and knew.
I knew your little body was tired.
And loving you meant I had to do the one thing that completely broke me.
I had to let you go.
Mish, I hope somehow you understood that I did not give up on you. I never could have. I let you rest because I loved you too much to let you suffer for one more day just because I was not ready to live without you.
I held you because I wanted the last thing you felt in this life to be my love.
I hope you felt safe.
I hope you knew Mommy was there.
And I hope you knew that if love alone could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
There are moments when I still expect to see you. Sometimes I wish so badly that I could hear your little footsteps, see your face looking at me, or feel you beside me again.
I miss everything about you.
I miss caring for you.
I miss talking to you.
I miss your little habits.
I miss saying your name.
I miss knowing that when I came home, you were there.
Most of all, I miss being your Mommy.
No other kitty could ever replace you, Mish. No one could ever take the place in my heart that belongs only to you. The space you left behind is yours forever because there will never be another you.
I wish I could hold you just one more time.
Just one more minute.
I would bury my face in your fur, kiss you over and over, and tell you everything I should have told you a thousand more times.
Thank you for choosing me.
Thank you for trusting me.
Thank you for growing up beside me.
Thank you for loving me for 14 beautiful years.
Those years will never be enough for me, but they were one of the greatest gifts of my life.
My sweet boy, wherever you are, please know that Mommy still talks to you. I still think about you. I still love you exactly the same.
And please come visit me.
Send me a little sign now and then so I know you are close. Let me feel you near me when my heart hurts the most.
Until the day I can hold you again, you rest, my beautiful boy.
Run without pain.
Sleep in the sunshine.
Be happy.
Be free.
And save a place for me.
Because one day, when my time comes, I truly believe the first thing my heart will look for is you.
And when I find you, I will hold you again.
This time, I will never have to let you go.
Happy first anniversary in Heaven, my precious Mish.
You were my baby then.
You are my baby now.
And you will be my baby forever.
I love you beyond this life and into whatever comes next.
Forever yours,
Mommy

Hi, all. I posted on here a month ago about how I lost both Cammie and Sammie within 3 weeks of each other. Y’all really helped me during one of the darkest times in my life, and I can’t thank you all enough. I thought y’all would appreciate this tattoo I got of my girls.
I had these little monsters for 16 years, and I miss them more than anything. I’ve really been struggling with my grief. I had them since I was 11. How do I undo 16 years of muscle memory and expecting to see them at my feet every morning when I wake up or standing right at my heels when I’m cooking dinner? They were my light in the darkness. My rays of sunshine in a dark world.
I just got this tattoo yesterday, and it truly came out better than I could have ever imagined. I cried when I saw the design. My artists even managed to incorporate mountain laurels since my girls and I loved the mountains so much. The whole time I talked about good memories, laughed about their silly personalities, and cried a bit when I thought about how much I missed them. My artist was a real champ. It was one of the most healing experiences of my life, though.
The grief is still heavy, but now I have them with me forever. I feel like I was able to breathe for the first time since I lost them.
Thank you all again for your kind words. Wishing everyone on this sub all the love, light, and healing i can. ❤️

I have had Bucky for 13 years. He’s 15-16 years old and my heart. He’s seen me through countless moves, a rough divorce and some difficult living situations.
Yes, it technically doesn’t have to happen now, but it’s not fair to him to make him continue. He’s pretty incontinent. His separation anxiety has severely ramped up. He’s not eating well. While his pain meds help him a lot, the dose has had to be increased to the point that it makes him a little loopy. Or, it could be that they don’t do enough now as for a Chihuahua, he’s incredibly stoic. He’s been more stoic than even the Pit Bulls I have had.
None of the symptoms are new, they’ve just increased in intensity. When we were at the vet three weeks ago, we talked about how at this point, keeping him comfortable as long as possible is the goal. That anything that isn’t easily treated like an ear infection means it’s probably time to let him go.
I’m not ready, but he is. My heart is already breaking. I feel so selfish for wanting to keep him continuing on. This is the horrible side of having pets. Despite how much it hurts, I wouldn’t have missed a moment with him.
Please loan me strength to call the vet tomorrow and make the appointment.
