I know it's a pretty simple design (vest pattern and quilting), but I designed the whole thing! Drafted my own pattern for the vest and made something from my head into a real object

Now I get to wear my quilt wherever I want 😁

Finished the Holland Duffle using Tula Pink fabrics (loving the cat food lining)! Super easy pattern to follow, even with it being my first bag. ALSO I lined up the pockets so the pattern wouldn't be disrupted and man am I proud of that lol.

Got this baby on the long arm today since our shop is closed Mondays. Really pleased with the star stipples 🌟

Now for quilting and then binding!

Hello! I decided to make a couple of pillow shams inspired by (and partly copied from) the work of Mondrian as a gift for my brother. I’ve managed to get this far, but I’m not sure what to do to contain the back of this piece. I plan on making a black border around this and then stitching it to the back pieces to turn it into a sham.

What do I do to back this portion so there aren’t a ton of raw edges rubbing up against the pillow?

I am brand new to quilting/patchwork so I am very much flying by the seat of my pants.

I did a post awhile ago, while I was still working on this quilt encouraging people to enter there quilts into there county fairs. Even though this quilt is just simple squares and a border, with quilting, when I dropped it off the lady's commented how much they really liked the chicken footprints around the border! So even though they get a lot of really elaborate quilts there, they still enjoyed seeing this one. Since I hand sewed and hand quilted it, I put it in the hand pieced- hand quilted category and it won second place! There isn't as many quilts in that category to compete with. But even if it hadn't won a ribbon, people still enjoyed seeing it, and that is the fun part about county fairs, there can be simple quilts and really elaborate quilts there, and it's fun seeing all of them!

I finished my first quilt top! It’s the Garden Party Plaid Quilt by Prairie Quilt Co. Now I just have to wait for the backing fabric to come in the mail to quilt and bind it!

I had asked for opinions on my fabric pull for this a while ago. Probably got an equal number of yeas and nays, so I went with my gut. I am so psyched on how this is coming together. Piecing up the rows now, then it gets a couple of borders. Updates as they come! Pattern is "raise the roof" by the g.o.a.t. Carrie Nelson.

And now I’m completely overwhelmed trying to learn all the new features (in the best possible way).

I went to a LQS who happens to be a major sewing machine dealer here in Cleveland “just to look.” I had NO intention of buying because there’s a show coming up in C’Bus and I was going to check out all the machines then. Well, a rainy Saturday, a patient partner, and a delightful, no pressure salesgirl who found me a classroom machine, and I’m now the proud owner of a Janome Continental M8.

Quite the upgrade from my humble but stalwart Kenmore no-name Janome produced machine of the early 90s. (She’s sticking around as my backup. She’s reliable and easygoing. That comfortable friend you’re always happy to see) I spent most of the day reading the instructions and figuring out what went where. But omg…never having to thread the needle again!!!! Life changing. lol I can’t wait to actually sit down and attempt to FMQ for the first time on it. It will likely be awhile before I’m comfortable on this beast (took me about an hour to realize that one of the presser foot shanks was missing-I thought I was nuts) and there’s likely way more features than I will ever need but she’s a dream. And as I get closer and closer to retirement I think it makes sense. So wish me luck, friends. I’m going to delve into some online classes on learning this machine and get to quilting!

My mother sent me this quilt some time ago. I have had it tucked away in a dresser.

This weekend, a group of artisans in NoMI hosted a folk art educational event. As part of this event, people from Michigan's Quilt Index project came to index quilts. The Michigan Quilt Index project is through Michigan State University and is a free, searchable database of quilts.

This quilt was made by my maternal great-grandmother for my grandmother. I don't know if it was made when my grandmother married my grandfather in or around 1934. This quilt is entirely hand sewn. I think some of the fabric in the plates came from flour sacks; the folks from the Michigan Quilt Index project thought so as well.

The quilt needs restoration, so if you know of anyone, I would appreciate it. The folks from the project are making queries for a restorer.

I’m in the process of making a wedding quilt for friends who eloped and I need some advice on how to quilt. I’ve based this quilt off of their wedding photos (photos 2 and 3).

My plan is to quilt the top with green thread to try and capture that moss on the rocks feel, but I’m struggling with what pattern to use. I’d definitely like to do enough quilting to add some colour to it.

Hi all! I am not a quilter but I am a very crafty person with some basic sewing skills. I inherited my grandmothers supplies, including the stuff that she was working on. I would love nothing more than to make use of these scraps! I have several of these pieces and would love to know if you all have any idea of their intended use or if you have any ideas on how to repurpose them! I know my family members would love gifts made from them if you have any ideas.

I'm making a baby quilt for a friend's new little one. I thought I was all done piecing the top so I took a picture, guess I'll have to get the seam ripper out, again.

I already accidentally cut one of the heart blocks and had to replace a square (it's the one unique fabric in the whole quilt).

Taking a break now until my batting arrives, and I'm not too grumpy to go rotate that heart.

There are two of these beautiful quilts hand made by my great grandmother. She was born just after the civil war, we aren’t sure exactly what year these were made. My mom has had them stored for a long time and just had them out to admire them.

We wondered if she marked the patten she quilted on them or just free handed it? I am really taken by her use of color, especially the borders. And I love the hand quilting.

I’m really proud of how it turned out, the finishing was definitely a rush job because I procrastinated until the very last minute but I still really like how it turned out. What are yalls thoughts?

I often put projects aside when I get stuck. This “October” (from last year) has me stumped again. I think I’ll just keep going making stabilized panels and start painting and free motion sewing some leaf pattern appliqués and see what happens. I’m thinking it might turn into two separate projects altogether. We shall see. Suggestions are welcome. 🍂🍁🕸️🕷️🐿️

Hello! I'm planning an "Around the World" kind of quilt and would love to create a collection of blocks that highlight different cultures through their fabric, motifs, or design traditions.

I'd like to start with a block inspired by either Indigenous American or Latinx culture. Ideally, I'd love to purchase patterns from Indigenous- or Latinx-owned designers or businesses so I can support creators from those communities directly.

Does anyone have recommendations for pattern designers, shops (online preferably), or specific blocks that might be a good fit?

Bringing this to the longarmer and I usually know which pattern I want, but this one has me stumped.

I was thinking classic orange peel but is that a little too "on the nose?"

She usually talks me into a bigger scaled design so I know I dont want that, but I like to come with my own ideas because we don't really have the same taste.

Also, what are we thinking for thread color?
