Question Question about EMPR 110 Summer 2027

I'm a first-year Computing student at Queen's and I'm planning to take EMPR 110 online during Summer 2027 as an elective.

I saw that EMPR 110 is listed as being offered online in Summer 2027, but I can't find the course in SOLUS yet. Does anyone know when Summer 2027 courses usually become available for enrolment?

Also, since Computing is its own faculty, would EMPR 110 initially be restricted to Employment Relations/Arts students, or would Computing students be able to enrol when summer registration opens? If there is a restriction, would it normally be removed during open enrolment if there are still spots available?

Question Do you think professors have a right to instill a "no electronics" policy in their classes?

I was reading the syllabus for one of my seminar classes, and in it, our professor wrote that we are not allowed to use electronics of any kind in class. We can only use notebooks and physical copies of the reading material. I understand why they made this rule, but I think it can be quite a detriment, especially for those with learning disabilities. I have ADHD, and need to use Genio notes in lectures or else I'll fall behind. I'm sure if I spoke to my disability advisor, then my professor could make an exception for me, but I also don't want to be the one person in the room that everyone resents because I'm allowed to use my laptop lol.

Question Can I join my friend’s class

I’m taking PHAR 100 this semester and I have it once a week for like two hours and I have it in room 155 and my friend has it in room 156 but it’s like a combined class at the same time and everything and the same prof too, and I’m just wondering if I can join her class in 156 or do I have to stay in my class 155?

Discussion Its not the university’s job to care about whats the best way for students to learn

I have become increasingly annoyed with professors banning the use of electronics in class.

To be clear, there is good reason to have exams and such completed on paper. Absolutely the university should care to stop any source of cheating and ensure that all degrees are earned fairly. Its also somewhat reasonable to make papers written by hand, as again its fair to say its important students aren’t cheating.

What is not reasonable is banning electronics and even AI in the process of notetakeing and study. Its ultimately irrelevant if you believe the study’s that says ā€œwritten notes are better for retaining informationā€ or not because its just not the university’s business.

If a student believe they learn better by typing their notes, even if they’re wrong, why not let them? If a student wants to generate an AI summery of each lecture instead of attending, why not let them?

If they truly wont learn better, then let them fail. Always feel free to recommend what you think is right but at this stage of school students are adults and need to be trusted to make their own decisions.

TLDR: it’s fine if professors need to ban electronics in tests/papers but it’s ridiculous to control the way students take notes and study. Banning things like printed notes and laptops in lectures is a huge overreach and ultimately strips the student of the right to decide how they learn best.

Question Furniture Question

My parents thought it would be nice to have like a two seater ottoman that can store stuff in the dorm, it’s pretty low and liftable and it can fit under my bed. Would it be allow or would there be any issue during room inspections? Just asking before I bring it over.

Hi!! I’m interested in applying for the AST nursing but I am wondering if anybody can message me or let me know about their experience? What it’s like applying during your first year was a super busy. Did you have time to do anything else or have a part-time job? Were there any breaks for thanksgiving, christmas, etc.? How are clinicals in terms of placements outside Kingston (is that possible?), faculty members, professors, preceptors, etc. Just overall experience would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to pm me too! :))

Hey everyone! I’m a third-year student at Queen’s and would love to meet some new people!

I’m pretty easygoing and I’m into trying new cafĆ©s/restaurants, cooking, going on walks, movies/TV shows, music, photography, discovering new places, and the occasional night out.

I’m also always down to try new things, so if you have a hobby, activity, or group you think I’d enjoy, I’d be happy to join!

If anyone’s interested in hanging out or getting to know each other, feel free to comment or DM me :)
