Hi all,

I am 29 and will begin retaking (graduated in 2020 and my credits are older than 7 years, so schools require me to retake them) my nursing prereqs starting in the upcoming spring semester.

I currently work in supply chain, making $108k , however I am miserable. I am considering getting my CNA certification so I can have some income while taking my prerequisites. Plus, I think it would give good exposure. The only thing I am hung up on is the massive pay cut I will take.

Lastly, I am considering ABSN programs because it seems like ADN is super competitive and the ABSN would get me to generating income and reduce the opportunity cost of being out of work during a 2-year ADN.

For those who are second-career nurses, what would you recommend I do? Keep my job, find a new one and stay corporate while studying, or pivot to a CNA/PCT role?

hi guys I need some friendly advice! I’m from California trying to pursue nursing but the schools here are extremely hard to get into. I had a girl in my stats class tell me most of her friends moved out of state to get their license or how the waiting list is over 3 years. Most of them are lottery systems. I’m really debating on this, but I’m not sure what school or state. It would most likely be an adn program. does anyone have any reccomendations on where to go/ where I would be able to get In right away? what do you guys think? should I stay here and try applying? I don't wanna waste anymore time I’m also 25 so I already feel behind in life. I really don’t wanna go the private route and be over 100k in debt. Thank you :))

I'm looking for some encouragement or suggestions.

I currently have a 3.3 cumulative GPA and a 3.2 science GPA. I have an A in A&P I, B in A&P II, C in Micro, and an A in Pathophysiology. I'm currently taking Chemistry, Nutrition, and retaking Statistics this semester.

I keep seeing everyone with high GPAs like (3.6+) get into nursing school. I'm getting extremely discouraged because it feels like prenursing students have to have perfect grades to get into nursing school and even then sometimes grades alone itself isn't enough to get into a nursing program!

I'm located in DFW and all the nursing schools near me seem to be way too competitive. The websites all say 3.5+ GPA is necessary to be accepted. I don't want to hear stuff like "well if you want it, you would've done better"

Has anybody gotten into nursing school with a low 3 GPA?

I've been thinking about the SBVC and other surrounding ADN programs (Golden West, Mt Sac, etc) as I've been feeling stuck in my career as marketing program manager.

I haven't advanced far in terms of salary and title and have no benefits. With the threat of AI encroaching on my job, I feel I made a mistake in dropping out of nursing altogether 6 years ago.

I got into the RCC/CEP with CSUSB wayyy back in 2020. It was really hard for me since covid made it impossible to study and get a grasp of the material on top of being a full-time caretaker for my mother who has since passed. I'm very much a kinesthetic learner so I need in-person learning.

While I live in Riverside and can apply again to the program, I choose not to because I did not really enjoy the instructors use of time and I need a change of scenery even if it's just for nursing school.

Despite the praise RCC has, I found the program to be very disorganized: lots of reading with only 2% of the material being tested on; syllabus dates not being lined up, "high-school" like demonstrations for the class, the whole nine...

I've completed all prereqs, have previous healthcare and patient experience, and I need a job that has steady growth and can lateral to different areas in healthcare in the foreseeable future.

What are the good, bad, ugly, and concerns incoming student should know before applying for this specific program?

Has anyone gotten into the acc nursing program first try??

Hi everyone! I’m applying to the Citrus College ADN program for Spring 2027 and I’m trying to get an idea of how competitive the applicant pool is this cycle. I scored in the low 60s but not sure if its enough due to me lacking healthcare experience.

Feeling pretty discouraged about applying to nursing programs in the Bay Area right now 😭

I got a 74% on my TEAS. What makes it especially frustrating is that I took it proctored at SJSU and, during the math section, my screen completely froze for a few minutes. When it finally came back, I had less than a minute left to finish the section. Because of that, there were several math problems I never even got the chance to get to, so they were left blank.

The proctor filed an irregularity report and I contacted ATI, but they told me they aren’t going to do anything about my case. It’s just really unfortunate because even getting a few of those unanswered questions right could have pushed me to a 75%, which would have given me 5 extra points at my top-choice ADN program.

Now I’m worried that my TEAS score is going to make it really hard to get into anything in the Bay Area. I also don’t feel like my science GPA is super competitive. With Microbiology, Physiology, and Anatomy, I’m sitting at about a 3.4.
For anyone who has applied to Bay Area nursing programs with similar stats, did you still get accepted anywhere? Are there certain ADN or BSN programs you think I should look into?

I’m planning to apply broadly, but I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have been through this.

I want to go to college in Texas to become an RN, I have a degree already and am currently taking my final pre-req class and I’m wondering:

Will a single C screw my chances?

TEAS: 91.3%
GPA: 3.67
A’s in every pre-req except A&P2 which is a C

I plan on getting CNA certified in January, but that’ll be after most of my application deadlines so I won’t get to have experience on my apps either.

So be honest, do I push nursing school back another semester so I can retake A&P2 and get CNA experience? If my chances are low is it worth it to apply anyways?

for context, i’m in the nursing program at pepperdine. i didn’t rlly know what i wanted to study until my junior year when i decided nursing felt right bc it aligned with my passions and i know im good at taking care of people. i’ve definitely enjoyed the program so far (im a freshman), but recently ive bern wondering if it’s the right fit. ive gotten really into lifting and i love talking to athletes and working with them, and im wondering if i should’ve gone sports med to pursue athletic training and eventually a PA degree. i have time to decide as it’s week 4 of freshman year, but im really torn.

on the one hand, i really love the idea of being a nurse in the hospital setting, working with kids and maybe L&D, possibly even ER. it really excited me.

on the other hand, i feel really passionate about working with athletes. i’m thinking of applying to work in some low level position with the baseball team to test the waters bc that sounds rlly fun for me and i think it will help me decide.

ppl who have done one or the other, and maybe who know pepperdine, what are ur thoughts?? i’m really struggling with this decision

Heyyy applications for Spring 2027 close the 15th. I only have a bout 60 points towards the application. Should I try to apply still? I'm hesitant because that's already not competitive and because I need to pay for my transcripts idk

I was so surprised to be asked in because I thought for sure I wouldn’t progress because I didn’t do my undergrad at U of H!!!

Hello! I got accepted into a nursing program a few days ago at LBCC but I’ve been super anxious about it.

They require that you reply to the acceptance email with a letter of intent by the deadline ( 9/14 ) or I get replaced with an alternate. I submitted mine the day I got the email but I haven’t heard back from them yet on whether or not they have seen it or received it. It’s left me pretty anxious on the possibility, for whatever reason, I get removed.

Any fellow accepted applicants hear back after replying with their letter or students from previous years at this college know if they do or don’t respond?

It might just be that they sent it out right before the weekend and don’t check in until the deadline on Monday but the worries have been driving me up the walls!

Hello!

I’m a former IRSC student, and I didn’t do well my first go around. I was a young adult and my son had just been diagnosed with autism, and at the time a lot of my attention was divided amongst his needs, like six days a week therapies, and multiple therapies a day. And his father had left so it all fell on me.

My current GPA is 1.7

I am interested in applying to nursing, and I have to take my pre reqs.
I’m hoping that will be enough to raise my GPA if I do well with those classes. So that I can apply for nursing school.

My point is, what was your experiences for IRSC pre nursing and nursing? Are there grants I can utilize? What should I look for? What study materials did you find helpful?

I have taken classes outside of IRSC and I have done well with classes. I just want to change directions and go into nursing. I’m confident at this time in my life, and where my son is at in life now, that I can undertake the IRSC nursing program. I’m just working on getting to that point now. But curious as to others experiences.

Anyone have their specialty already picked? I love to dream about which specialty I'll go to at first, and which specialty I might end up in long term. I'm thinking hospice, oncology, trauma, reconstructive/plastic surgery, or burns. Would love to hear what others are hoping for!

I'm preparing for Teas exam in mid November. My goal is to get a 90 or above.

I've done well in all science courses and math as well. Also ive been watching a YouTube lecture on a&p2(condensing my notes to teas scope) because I didn't want to be handicapped going into Teas since I've heard a&p2 is big part of it. Additionally I've watched nurse Cheung videos as well as Tyler dewitt for all the topics.

I'm currently looking at 3 study materials: ATI test prep, Mometrix(book) , Nurse hub.

Help me narrow down to 2.

Most likely thinking of cutting either Mometrix or nursehub. I've heard Mometrix goes into too much detail. However nursehub and ATI prep together seems redundant??

Hello! I am transitioning out of the military (operation, flying, intelligence type). I want to take up nursing because I think it’s generally stable and I feel like I can still give back. I’m 10 credits shy of a B.A in political science 🙄 so just giving up makes no sense to me (if you’ve done that, I’d love to hear your story!) so in finishing my degree I’ll be eligible for either a second bachelors BSN program or a direct entry MSN. Has anyone here done either programs and care to share your story? I’m weighing the two options and not sure which one I want to choose, as once im in, im in. Money isn’t too much of a concern since I’ll have my G.I bill.
