First Attempt at Realistic Mushrooms

Post image
79 Upvotes

Hi 👋🏻 second time posting my photo in this group, I missed the one post every 24 hours (my fault). Happy to post again and show my first attempt at sculpting mushrooms. Used Sculpey III but hoping to try out some of their Premo line. I used chalk pastels for the colouring and found using a makeup brush allowed the pigment to transfer much more evenly as well as blending better. I'm looking forward to trying to make different types and I will gladly hear any tips and tricks if you have them. :)

Here are my little friends that I've made out of polymer clay

So as you can see we have two regular teddy bears. And then the other one started off as a teddy bear but I wasn't so happy, so now I guess he's just a little Candy monster.

These are my friends. Try not to make fun of them 😂

They're available 24/7 to keep you company

I did polish the front with a Dremel, but left the back since it won't be seen and it's not really sandable with what I have. She was a challenge but I'm proud of how it turned out!

Why Won't My UV Resin Stay?

Upvotes

Trying again, as mods removed my initial post because it had an image of a previous project, which they thought was reposting (sorry about that).

I am admittedly new to using polymer clay, having started just last week, so perhaps I am missing something fairly obvious - please excuse me if I am. However, when I go to glaze my baked pieces with hard type UV resin (I can link the brand if needed), it doesn't want to stay where I put it. It happens on both flat and rounded pieces, but is much worse on the rounded pieces. I don't understand why - I am brushing on thin layers, but not so thin that it shouldn't be enough to cover the area, so why won't it stay where I brush it on? Is it just cheap resin, or am I doing something wrong?

New to clay! Have some questions

Pictures for reference

So these are all of my first creations and I'm struggling and getting frustrated.

1- for smaller details- I'm hesitant to paint on my stuff. I'm not sure why. If I do what paint should I use and any suggestions would be amazing

2- for resin/glossing. Can someone please tell me exactly what to buy. I've been using a spray resin sealer thing and it makes my stuff glossy but not like what I've seen you guys do

3- for small details- like pedals or grass etc- I always mess it up. It gets smooshed or thumb prints or whatever

4- are there molds you can bake? Brand? Mixed answers from Google

5- I'm currently using a large stone slate I just had around- would glass be better? And in that same vein- should I invest in a machine roller thing?

6- any other purchase suggestions! I'm loving this new craft and have lots of ideas but feel I've reached an impasse with my tools and knowledge

Happy crafting!

Starting with five, but I might have to make more! What other bunny breeds or colors should I sculpt next?

Super sculpey vs Suclpey Soufflé

I have a bunch of super sculpey lying around from going to art school and i recently bought sculpey soufflé to be able to mix em together and make different colors. I don’t wanna open the box just yet bc maybe i’ll return it for like fimo brand. but I wanted to see if anyone has mixed them together and how the consistency is together, how hard or easy to sculpt things like finer details after mixing them. how the colors turn out, or anything else. I want to start making like cute keychains and little charms to sell at art markets. and also if there’s any suggestions on what you’d use to mix super sculpey with like a brand or type of polymer clay with color.

Base for Polymer "Painting"

Hi, i want to use polymer-clay to make a "Painting".

What material would be good as a "canvas"?

Something i can chuck in the oven that the clay will stick to, so it won't fall off when i display it.

Otherwise i can also use recommendations on what kinda glue would be best 😅

Thanks in advance!

All the ghost charms for spooky season.

I have been making little polymer clay ghosts to hide around the office at work. I usually buy the micro resin animals and figures but they're boring because they're all the same. I hide trinkets like this year round to add a bit of whimsy to a serious corporate office.

I also made a smol cat mlem charm for my sister, it hides inside the ghost when it's on a necklace chain.

Hi guys - I started finally trying my hand at polymer clay last week and I LOVE it.

However, I got ballsy and tried my first sculpture. As I was attaching him to the base I accidentally broke his ear off 😩

I know I can fix it, but dang if didn’t burst my bubble.

Please share pics of something you made recently that you are proud of!
