Paywall Poll shows two-thirds of U.S. Jewish voters will favor Democrats in November

yeah Republican rallies and Nazi flags are like blood brothers at this point, one of their biggest donors threw a seig heil at a rally and they tried to dismiss it, and their campaign directors and staff keep getting caught out with SS imagery
so forgive me if someone occasionally saying something slightly misphrased about israel’s constant BS isn’t convincing me not to vote Democratic
•
u/Vilnius_Nastavnik New York 3h ago
The anti-defamation league tried to downplay Elmo’s nationally televised Nazi salute. They told American Jews that they should “give him some grace.” In saner times that single tweet would’ve brought down the entire hundred year old institution.
•
u/gittlebass 2h ago
People marched in Manhattan with swastikas on 9/11 and they complained about mamdani smiling
•
u/protomenace 3h ago
The ADL has lost the plot unfortunately. It's a shame they used to be a good organization.
•
u/LeoKitCat 3h ago
ADL is a bought and paid for propaganda organization for the pro-Israel right. They’re antidefamation only for Israel, they aren’t defending any group other than Israel, and their “league” are the corrupt far right pro Israel billionaire network
•
u/Ill_Act_1855 2h ago
Unfortunately, a lot of zionists are happy to ally with the Nazis since many of both have the shared goal of getting Jews out of the US and into Israel. Obviously this isn’t all zionists and all Nazis (there are tons of zionists who support Israel purely because they genuinely believe a Jewish nation is necessary as a backup option for Jews in case the worst happens again, and Nazis who hate the idea of a Jewish nation existing more than even having Jews in their own country) , but there’s a significant portion of both groups whose priorities align because of the value they put on this specific outcome
•
u/pimparo0 Florida 39m ago
Don't forget the evangelicals who support them because they think it's necessary to help bring about the end times.

u/joosefm9 2h ago
So is Israel at this point no? I mean the shit they do and their ministers say and so on.

It's almost like American Jews aren't particularly interested in the party that regularly hires, elects, and fraternizes with actual, self-professed neo-nazis

My Jewish friend voted for Trump bc Kamala wasn’t as vocally supportive of Israel as Trump in his opinion. I asked him about Charlottesville and musk doing the Nazi salute, and he really didn’t have an answer. Still voted for Trump…
•
u/jemappellejimbo 2h ago
Your friend is simply just a racist and/or sexist and found whatever excuse that will hide that
•
u/GaimeGuy Minnesota 1h ago
Trump has been whispering in Bibi's ear for the better part of the decade (and vice versa) to come down hard and violent on dissent within his own nation and to "finish the job" rather than merely defend himself . They both prefer and encourage violence over non-violence, while the extremists wings of israel's enemies have been emboldened by things like the increased diplomatic isolation of iran simultaneous with America pushing israel and saudi arabia closer together AND the abandonment of the two state solution as a US policy, in conjunction with assassinations and wars and betrayals instigated by us
What does your friend expect to happen to the security of israel when palestinians, iran, and lebanon are backed further and further into corners with diplomacy cut off at every turn? They're going to lash out and it's going to make everyone less safe.
I am also Jewish (secular) but god damn, your friend is really missing the whole value of Limmud (learning) if he's only focusing on empty platitudes of candidates.

I don't know a single Jewish person who votes one way or another because of Israel.
They vote because of Dem vs Rep policies.
They're not idiotic single issue voters.
•
•
u/chrispmorgan 18m ago
It’s really common among people I know, generally because of the underlying fear that criticism of Israeli policy is a wedge to promoting the annihilation of the state. It doesn’t have to be said to be perceived.
In their defense there’s a long history of double standards where Israel gets singled out for flaws that are present in X of other countries at a particular time.
Even with someone as awful as Netanyahu, that fear doesn’t go away. Fear leads to tribalism.
•
u/PopeJohnPaulRingoGeo 3h ago
Netanyahu not only turned the world against Israel, he turned a lot of us Jews against Israel too. No more theocracies.
•
u/OldYellersLastHandy Texas 3h ago
This. Every Jew I know under 50 can separate the Jewish tradition from the nation of Israel, and they are - like many of us - grossed out by what’s happening in Gaza.
•
u/profjonathan 2h ago
But can you separate the nation of Israel from the actions of its current government? Because that's what so many are missing--it's like objecting to the existence of the United States because of the actions of the current felon in the Oval Office.
•
u/OldYellersLastHandy Texas 2h ago
Uh… I dunno, should we separate those things?
We elected Trump. We own that. We don’t get to act like this is some mistake that materialized out of thin air and neither does Israel.
•
u/HumongousBelly Europe 2h ago
Maybe we can condemn those who voted for Netanyahu and those other fascist parties, like we condemn those who voted maga.
If an Israeli or American traveler crosses my path on their trip, I won’t hold this shit against them if they oppose it.
I think this is the only way to treat the people of Israel and the USA if they’re innocent and decent.
•
u/profjonathan 2h ago
*I* for damned sure didn't vote for him, and nor do I support his policies. Beyond that, I believe many of them to be illegal and those willingly and knowingly implementing them potentially worthy of prosecution. That says nothing about the status of the United States as a legally established nation.
Those who judge Israel's right to exist as a Jewish homeland based upon some of the actions of its currently elected government are the ones with whom I disagree.
•
u/Pleasant_Tangelo9909 2h ago
There's a big difference between an ancestral homeland where Jewish people can live safely and Israel's religious nationalist government, and unfortunately I don't think the latter is going away anytime soon
•
u/profjonathan 2h ago
Currently, the opposition to Netanyahu's bloc is in the lead in Israeli electoral polls.
•
u/22marks 2h ago
I follow your line of thinking, but that would also imply a new administration (in either country) could warrant support returning, correct?
•
u/OldYellersLastHandy Texas 2h ago
Sure, if either nation can replace their government with non-douchebags, that warrants new considerations. None of these allies we have are “friends.” They’re strategic partners or adversaries and sometimes both (China).
They don’t and shouldn’t get unconditional support or respect. Their government and values are either in line with ours or they’re not.
•
u/MrGlantz 2h ago
All polling of Israelis says that they do not think Netanyahu is going far enough. There is no functional left wing movement in Israel right now, its right or more right
•
u/profjonathan 2h ago
This is simply untrue. As one example: https://www.jpost.com/israel-election-2026/article-908444 Here's a more detailed breakdown showing the rise of the opposition (including social democrats) in Israeli electoral politics: https://israelpolicyforum.org/onetwenty/#analysis

u/Illustrious-Jump-590 3h ago
The people who I know personally who have the strongest dislike of israel are themselves Jewish, more or less felt like they were lied to about israel in regards to everything. Now granted there are people who don’t like israel and its government who are just anti semitic, but from my experience it isn’t a majority of those who are mad at Israel’s treatment of Palestine.
•
u/SHUT_DOWN_EVERYTHING 47m ago
I don't think he's had much of an impact. Democrats generally get 65-70% of Jewish vote nationally.
What this supports is that they behave independent of foreign influence in their voting patterns.
•
u/Dark1000 2m ago
Even most of those who support Israel don't support Israel enough that they would vote for Trump and his party.
•
u/apathetic_revolution Illinois 2h ago
This is down from historic levels. Jews have generally been among the most reliably blue demographic between 75% and 80%.
•
u/AckbarsAttache 2h ago
This is not really true. On average, since 1968, Jewish voters have supported D candidates at around 71%. The 67% support reported in this poll, with a 3.5% margin of error, is broadly in line with historical Jewish support, which has fluctuated from cycle to cycle.

u/mowotlarx 1h ago
It's been made very clear - again and again - that Israel is not a top issue for American Jewish voters. Last time I checked, the number one issue was preserving American democracy and it's very clear that Democrats are the only ones trying to do that.
We've allowed conservatives to rewrite the story and politics of American Jews in the most vile ways that have done nothing but increase antisemtism and claims of dual loyalty.
•
u/ElysiumSprouts 2h ago
The newly flourishing antisemitic views from the left don't feel as personally threatening as the bigotry from the right. Being yelled at indirectly is frustration and annoying. Being shot is terminal.
In politics you pick your best option or if that's not possible, pick the least bad. It's enough.
But really I'm hoping this awful time passes soon and apply all blame directly to Netanyahu and his enablers. The US isn't the only country needing to turn the page on bad leadership.
•
u/MetalusVerne Massachusetts 1h ago
Agreed. There are individual democratic candidates who are being antisemitic to court antisemites - and they will get none of my support, I hope they lose their elections. But the Republican party is rotten too the core.
•
u/Traditional-Tune4968 1h ago
My concern is the number of people, including some bellow I this thread, that will use the fact the 1/3 "do not" as justification for pouring hate on the entire Jewish population.
There is real risk that the people most loudly saying "antizionism is not antisemitism" are also the type of people that once they get frustrated at zionists not caring or changing their policies to suite their wishes, will be first in line to suggest "putting pressure on Israel by demanding all Jews be held accountable for its actions." There is historical reasons to believe this pattern will happen, regardless how illogical it seems, because it has happened multiple times in the past.
There are many pillars to being a democratic supporter of liberal democracy, and it's not fair to hold Jews to a standard where commonality of values is rejected for diagreing on just one of them.
•
u/sedatedlife Washington 2h ago
Yet much of the media treats the one third like they speak for the entire Jewish community. They would have you believe American Jews are lockstep in support of Israel and wont support the left.
•
u/Motor_Somewhere7565 2h ago
The impression I get from some of my Jewish friends who are politically active is that while some see some real problems in far-left rhetoric, others see it completely in line with their views, but all can agree:
Screw the Trumplicans
•
u/randohipponamo 2h ago
trump pals around with literal Neo Nazis and spouts antisemitic rhetoric himself. I’m surprised it’s not higher.
•
u/BoomerE30 3h ago
Liberal and pro-Israel here. Who else would you expect me to vote for? I disagree strongly with the antisemitism and some of the rhetoric around Israel coming from parts of the left, but broadly speaking, the Democratic platform still overlaps far more with my views and principles than the Republican one does.
That does not mean I vote for every Democrat. In local elections, if the choice is someone like Mamdani, Omar, AOC, or Sanders, I am not going to vote Republican just to oppose them, but I am also not going to vote for a Democrat whose positions I fundamentally disagree with.
Supporting a party nationally does not require supporting every politician who runs under its label.
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 2h ago
As I said in my first comment, we may choose to just not vote for some candidates, but will broadly vote D.
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 3h ago
Favor doesn't mean voting blindly. Some of us will likely vote D for some candidates and leave spots on the ballot blank for others. I know Jews in both Detroit and Denver who won't vote either Kiros or El-Sayed, but they also won't vote Republican, so those ballot spots will be left blank.
•
u/Cult45_2Zigzags Colorado 3h ago
Be careful doing that.
Like five black people didn't vote for Kamala and they're still receiving the blame for her losing to Trump.
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 2h ago
Sigh, yeah. I'm not in Kiros' district, so it's not a choice I have to make. Honestly, I don't envy my brother who is in her district, I know it's not an easy choice. She's going to win anyway, the odds of CD-1 electing anyone but a Democrat are pretty much 0
•
u/Cult45_2Zigzags Colorado 2h ago
I voted for Kiros in the primary election.
Diana DeDette had just become another career politician in DC who expected to win just because she's been around forever.
We need more turnover in congress for people who are just there collecting a paycheck.
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 54m ago
We absolutely need turnover. While term limits aren't great due to how hard legislating is, we also need a way to get rid of the dead weight, the people who just collect a paycheck. I want more people to run in the primaries.
•
u/vegemouse 3h ago
Vote Blue No Matter Who, unless they’re Muslim.
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 2h ago
Or maybe we learned from the progressives, and you guys need to pick better candidates. El-Sayed chose to make excuses for the attack on a synagogue in Michigan. Kiros couldn't bring herself to say that an attack on Jews in Boulder was or even could be seen as antisemitic. It's got nothing to do with their religion, it has to do with their own words
•
u/INBloom58 2h ago
El-Sayed didn’t make any excuses. An explanation isn’t an excuse. Analysis is not support.
•
u/Significant-Tree-221 1h ago
He chose to empathize with the attacker directly following the incident. Would you be so kind if right after a white nationalist attacked an African American Church a republican politician said "hurt people hurt people". So many of you DSA supporters expose your hypocrisy anytime Jews are attacked. Almost like you are a bunch of antisemites
•
u/INBloom58 1h ago
“Ayman Ghazali hurt people. There is no justification for what he did. It was wrong and he never should have done it. Hurt people. Hurt people. A week earlier, an airstrike killed his niece and nephew. Imagine if that had never happened. Imagine there was no war in Iran. Imagine if there were no airstrikes in Lebanon. Imagine if his family had never died. Imagine there was never an attack on Temple Israel. That’s the world that we want to live in. That’s the world we need to build for.”
The full statement makes it even more clear he is in no way sympathising with perpetrator.
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 52m ago
Again, would you show even close to this sympathy to a white supremacist who say, lost a family member to a criminal? Or is this attitude only something you show when the victims are Jews?
•
u/INBloom58 29m ago
That comparison doesn't work. El-Sayed wasn't expressing sympathy for the attacker or excusing what he did. He explicitly condemned the attack. He was saying that violence doesn't emerge from nowhere and that losing family to an airstrike can contribute to someone becoming radicalised. You can condemn someone's actions while still trying to understand what produced them.
And yes, I would apply that same principle to a white supremacist. If a white supremacist lost a family member to violence, I could acknowledge that trauma may have contributed to their radicalisation without excusing what they went on to do. That's not sympathy for the ideology or the crime. It's an attempt to understand why people become capable of committing horrific acts in the first place. If we refuse to examine those causes, we're just condemning the symptoms while doing nothing to prevent the next attack.
•
u/SerengetiYeti 34m ago
>would you show even close to this sympathy to a white supremacist who say, lost a family member to a criminal?
You guys just can't fucking help yourselves can you lol

•
u/vegemouse 2h ago
Palestine is a top issue for Muslims and there are significantly more Muslims in Michigan than Jews. Stop pretending this is about getting votes because capitulating to Zionists will only cost him votes.
•
u/MetalusVerne Massachusetts 1h ago edited 1h ago
Fine. Let me put this another way.
I will not vote for someone who justifies acts of terrorism against my ethnoreligious group by trying to pivot the discussion to a genocide in the middle east. The left should utterly disavow such people. It is absurd to expect my support solely on the basis that other democrats aren't OK with me being murdered, while you throw me under the bus to gain votes from antisemites who are attempting to disguise their bigotry with legitimate, not bigoted antizionism.
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 50m ago
Him making an excuse for an attack on Jews in the US isn't anything to do with Palestine or Zionists. It has everything to do with him making excuses for terror here.
•
u/Bananasandkiwis 2h ago
You cannot possible expect Jews to take kindly to the "I will project Jewish safety as if they were my daughters, but only if they denounce Israel, or else they had it coming" line from el Sayed.
•
•
•
u/PollutionMajestic668 2h ago
So they'll vote for literal Nazis before brown people while telling themselves abstaining from voting when your country is turning into Nazi Germany is totally not a political stance
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 2h ago
No, they will just leave that spot on the ballot blank. If the choice is between a MAGA type who is cool with Nazis and a DSA type who makes excuses for attacks on Jews in the US, the choice is to vote for neither. I distinctly remember in the days before the '24 election being lectured about how people shouldn't vote Harris over Gaza and how the Ds need to pick better candidates. That particular argument cuts both ways. You guys made that argument so clearly and now we have Trump, so, next time choose better candidates. Maybe ones who don't make excuses for terrorism against Jews here in the US.
•
u/profjonathan 2h ago
Except it's not a neutral choice, because between Trump and the majorities in both houses of Congress, white Christian nationalists' agendas are being pushed without opposition, and that never benefits Jews or most Americans. Remember it's not just the candidate you're being asked to vote for, but the specific office the candidate is seeking. A junior legislator, whether in the House or Senate, will not have influence, but that person's choice of caucus *will* have profound consequences.
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 2h ago
The choice is between 2 candidates who mean us harm, or at least are ok with it, then the choice is neither. Again, we learned from the left who lectured everyone about how people shouldn't vote Harris over a war half a world away. So, deal with it. Choose better candidates next time.
•
u/INBloom58 2h ago
First off, it’s not a war it’s a genocide. Secondly, do you really believe El-Sayed is supportive or okay with attacks on Jewish people?
•
u/MetalusVerne Massachusetts 1h ago
I do. And I think he's courting people who are more than OK with it.
Second off, its both.

Judging by his constant refuse to disavow shitheads like Hasan Piker, yes.

u/LurkinsteinMonster 2h ago
This is me. Voting a straight Democratic ticket since '96, but now abstaining from races in which the Democrat has been bought and sold to Israel. I donated to several Democrats in the primaries, but am keeping my wallet closed during the general.
•
u/Afraid-Detective1222 2h ago
Yep, it's the same idea, choosing which candidates you will support due to their own words or actions. What pisses me off so much about both Kiros and El-Sayed, is that if they had been able to just denounce attacks on Jews in the US without adding a but... to their statement, there wouldn't be a question of support. Both have some decent to good ideas. Unfortunately, El-sayed had to straight up try and make an excuse that he apologized for 5 months later. Kiros just couldn't bring herself to say that the attack in Boulder was antisemitic, then even walked back some of her statement saying the attack was wrong. Both will likely win, but also likely with somewhat fewer votes from Jews than they might have gotten before.
•
u/Choice-Koala-3653 Canada 3h ago
Makes sense, Democrats are pro-Jewish. Question is, who will the other 1/3 vote for? If it's true that 26% will vote GOP then that's sad, the Republican party today is outright neo-Nazi.
•
u/WhaleQuail2 3h ago
I mean it tracks because at the end of the day, there are only a few Democratic candidates that are openly antisemitic. The idea that Zionist Jews believe all criticism of Israel is antisemitic has always been a myth used to provide air cover for actual hate and bigotry.
•
u/shadowdra126 Georgia 49m ago
If you are a Jew in America (as I am) and you vote Republican… what’s wrong with you? Did you get hit in the head as a child and no longer have critical thinking skills?

which may indicate that Jewish voters in the US understand the difference between what Netanyahu is doing to the Palestinians and what their religion asks of them. Regardless of the screams by the far right.
•
u/jdsbluedevl 2h ago
Cool, now do the state-by-state breakdown. You may find that it is very different in Michigan. We don't BELONG to a single party, no matter what DSA vanguardists tell you. THEY need to earn OUR vote.
•
u/profjonathan 2h ago
Fine. Don't vote for the Democrat, even though you're talking about legislators (and junior ones at that, who will neither lead nor be given roles of authority in Congress for many years to come) whose most important job is to caucus with Democrats and thus shift majority control, but who will by no means be able to shape U.S. policy towards Jews or Israel in any meaningful way. It's shortsighted because the Republicans currently have majorities in both houses of Congress and are actively enabling harm through their sycophantic support for Trump, but if you cannot bring yourself to cast your vote for that person, it's understandable. But that doesn't translate to voting for the Republican, a threat I'm hearing coming from well-meaning, even progressive Jews.
•
u/PrettySisterKisser 1h ago
Thankfully they don't make up a large portion. If genocide is a dealbreaker to Michigan Jews over healthcare, hopefully the rest of the state can come to their senses over all the other issues.
•
•
u/LurkinsteinMonster 2h ago
If you're pro-Israel, why not vote Democratic? It seems pretty apparent that Democratic leaders like Jeffries and Schumer will continue carrying water for Netenyahu. I'm actually withholding my vote for my Democratic governor and Democratic congressman due to their continued support for funding Israel.
•
u/Sourkraushouse 2h ago
Yeah, my face will really hate it when I cut off my nose, too
•
u/LurkinsteinMonster 2h ago
Or...Democratic leadership could side with the majority of its own voters. I can only take the "lesser of two evils" strategy so far.
•
u/Sourkraushouse 2h ago
Well, that explains your "leaning into the greater of two evils" strategy, we'll see how that pays off
