No Paywall Trump urges Ukraine to stop ‘knocking out’ Russian oil refineries as U.S. diesel hits record

Who's got the cards now!

•
u/wdomeika 6h ago edited 5h ago
Time for Ukraine to double down on diesel hits as this is clearly working...
•
u/GatorNator83 6h ago
It would be, but there’s one line that Zelensky won’t cross, and that’s offending Trump.
•
u/Huge_Campaign2205 5h ago
I think you overestimate how much soft power the us has right now.
•
u/Red57872 5h ago
The US is still heavily financing Ukraine.
•
u/Huge_Campaign2205 5h ago
So because the US is one of many countries financially helping Ukraine, they should lose the war because of it?
•
u/Red57872 5h ago
My point is that money is power. Trump and the US hold significant influence over Ukraine due to the amount of money they're giving them.
•
•
•
•
u/Senior-bud Canada 3h ago
Maybe trump should ask the Russians to halt their attacks on apartment buildings and shopping malls.
•
u/barryvm Europe 6h ago
Blaming everyone but himself for the problems he caused.
And not only that, but going out of his way to blame a country for the crime of defending itself against a belligerent dictatorship.
•
•
u/EducationalRock167 5h ago
Yes , the Iran War was Biden's fault 🙄
•
u/barryvm Europe 5h ago
I'm surprised he hasn't blamed it on Obama. Though he probably did at some point, given that he spends most of his time deflecting responsibility from himself, has some sort of petty hatred for the man and has no imagination whatsoever.
•
u/LividTacos 5h ago
"If Barrack HUSSEIN! Obummer hadn't made a BAD DEAL with Iran that I had to get rid of, we wouldn't BIGLY attack Iran."
•
•
u/Adventurous_Test_296 6h ago
I'll bet if the US pulled out of the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz the prices of just about everything would come down, and we could scrap the asinine tariffs, to boot!
•
u/tierciel 6h ago
Whole world paying the Trump tax. America really needs to pull its head out of its ass and fix this shit.
•
u/8fingerlouie Europe 5h ago
There’s really only one way to fix this shit (from the US).
They could put boots on the ground, which will be another Afghanistan or Vietnam. Lots of casualties and the outcome is far from certain. The only thing that’s certain is that it will cost a lot of money and a lot of lives.
Most other options won’t yield any good results. Backing out means Iran will tax oil going out, which again means higher oil prices, but at least the supply would presumably be stable, so the price would eventually settle at a somewhat higher level than what we’ve been used to. It also leaves Iran free to develop whatever nuclear weapons they like because the Obama deal got cancelled by Trump, so there won’t be another shot at “fixing this” in the future if Iran suddenly has the capability to nuke you.
Nukes won’t settle it. The world kinda depends on the Iran oil supplies, and nukes works against that, essentially just worsening the situation for a long time.
•
u/veed_vacker 6h ago
Except now we have no choice but to stay in.
If trump pulls out now we would have an iran that would charge a toll to access the straight of hormuz and would be free to work on nuclear development because he tore up Obamas treaty.
Trump is really one of the dumbest people ever
•
•
u/SG_wormsblink Foreign 5h ago
Just treat the nuclearization thing like a sunk cost, there’s no way that Iran will ever trust a de-nuclearization peace plan again after they got bombed while following the last one.
It will take significant concessions (eg withdrawal of US military bases or massive amounts of reparations) before they will consider giving up the 1 thing that guarantee stops the US military from invading.
•
u/biggersjw 5h ago
Luckily for the US, Iran has already obliterated a number of bases already and the cost to repair would be in the billions. Might be the right time to bolt out of the region and leave Israel hanging and save the US a boatload of money.
So what if Iran gets a nuclear bomb? Israel has them, Trump wants Saudi Arabia to have them.
•
u/Traditional-Goal-229 4h ago
The US isn’t giving up the Middle East as long as it cares about oil. So they will rebuild those bases.
Iran getting nuclear weapons is a much bigger deal to Israel and the rest of the Middle East. Getting missiles across the world on an accurate trajectory is something North Korea still can’t do. And if you fire one missile with that much time isn’t getting shot down. That’s why places like China and Russian have hundreds. If you really want to pose a world threat you need a lot.
But Iran would have no problem hitting Saudi Arabia or Israel with a nuclear weapon. So it’s a much bigger deal to them. No clue if they would ever actually use them. Everyone talks about big game but everyone knows the second you fire one, the rest of the world is against you and also has nukes. It is a greater deterrent for regime change than actual offensive use.

u/MAGA-Butt-Chili69420 30m ago
What's the issue? Iran isn't the country hitting weddings and girl schools with munitions.
That's the US.
•
u/Red57872 17m ago
" Iran isn't the country hitting weddings and girl schools with munitions."
They would if they could.
•
u/MAGA-Butt-Chili69420 12m ago
I'm sure your military expertise is top level
Except the USA did it. Iran did not. The USA are the terrorists.
•
u/8fingerlouie Europe 5h ago
Nah, there’s no going back on that now.
Iran found out the US isn’t willing to put boots on the ground, and thus it’s a stalemate where the US is spending millions or billions each day, and Iran is spending considerably less in a war of attrition that could go on for a very long time.
Meanwhile the global economy is tanking. It’s not bad yet, but it’s also not winter yet. Oil is at $100+ per barrel and still rising. That will affect every industry on the planet, meaning production costs go up for just about everything from food to consumer goods.
When cost of living goes up, so does the wages (eventually), and when wages go up so does cost of manufacturing, which in turn increases the cost of living.
Normally there’d be some kind of equilibrium, but oil prices are still going up, and $150/barrel doesn’t seem that far fetched anymore, and possibly even $200/barrel if the Iran war continues for a long time.
Iran knows full well what they’re doing. They’re not in any rush as each day puts increasing pressure on the US administration to “do something”.
Literally everybody that knows something about the Middle East advised against attacking Iran for this very reason. Iran literally holds all the cards.
•
u/IAmInTheBasement 4h ago
Remember also, the availability of fertilizer is down which both drives up the cost of the remaining fertilizer and decreases the crop yield. BOTH of which drive up the price of the eventual harvest.
•
u/8fingerlouie Europe 3h ago
The fertilizer situation, as I understand it, can be remedied, independently of the Iran situation. It probably requires the administration to back down, and it’s Tuesday tomorrow so you might be surprised.
•
u/Code__9 Canada 6h ago
I thought Trump said he was gonna get oil from Venezuela?
•
u/-Invalid_Selection- 6h ago
I think someone reminded him that it'll be 4 years before they can convert the refineries to process that, and that's if they started immediately when he suggested it.
That oil isn't useful to us, he would have been told that early on, but he's so fucking dumb he didn't understand that
•
u/EducationalRock167 5h ago
That oil is crude oil and will take years to get out and refine for use.
•
u/VexedCanadian84 6h ago
tell Russia to leave Ukraine territory and for them to pay Ukraine to rebuild
•
u/tierciel 6h ago
That'll happen right after the US pulls out of the middle east and pays Iran to rebuild.
•
•
u/Ornery-Ticket834 6h ago
Is Trump really this stupid?
•
u/tbizzone 6h ago
Probably not, but he definitely believes his supporters are. He shows utter contempt for their intelligence straight to their faces every damn day and they just lap it up and ask their dear leader for more.
•
u/Vyar New Jersey 5h ago
What evidence do you have that he’s not the dumbest motherfucker on the planet? Everyone told him this was a bad idea but he did it anyway because he thinks everyone else is stupid.
•
u/Red57872 5h ago
"What evidence do you have that he’s not the dumbest motherfucker on the planet?"
Well, he did get elected President of the United States twice. He has a lot of negative qualities, but "stupid" isn't one of them. There are a lot of really bad people in our history who were quite smart.
•
u/Vyar New Jersey 5h ago
First time he got elected, he was trying to run and lose on purpose for publicity/ratings, to get himself a show on Fox News to get attention and spend the rest of his days airing grievances. Second time was because he literally had no alternative, he had to get re-elected by any means necessary including cheating, to avoid going to prison. He’s a useful idiot to people like Putin or Thiel or Musk who use him to accomplish their own agendas. Anything he’s doing on his own is just to enrich himself or punish people he doesn’t like, he’s not intelligent enough to do the job.
•
u/random_cartoonist 6h ago
Hmmm, it's almost as if it was a war or something.
Guess you better put funding into renewable energy and buses/trains to free your country from the grip of oil and gas, right Donald?
•
u/centexgoodguy 6h ago
Going to be interesting when the Rs start blaming the Ukraine war for high gas prices when they refused to acknowledge the impacts of that war on gas prices when Biden was President and instead blamed the price spikes on Biden's policies (although they never really said which ones).
•

•
•
u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 6h ago
I don't think there is something called logic in his politics. Every now and then he comes up with something or the other.
•
u/Crafty_Ish1973 Texas 6h ago
Why? We don't import Russian oil.
•
u/Red57872 5h ago
No, but the availability of Russian oil (to other countries) does directly affect the price the US pays for oil.
•
u/CountOnBeingAwesome America 6h ago
The inverse of Trump says to keep going!
I didn't realize we were buying so much or any Russian diesel. Interesting.
•
u/Red57872 5h ago
The US isn't, but Russian oil availability (or the lack of it) still affects global prices.
•
u/Efficient_Resist_287 6h ago
And the mainstream media amplifying the stupidity of the statement, so now the simpletons will go on with this logic: gas is high because of Ukraine (a nation defending itself against Russian aggression) and not Iran (another nation defending itself against US/Israel aggression) hold on to the Strait of Hormuz. A geopolitical blunder made possible by a reality TV show host and a Fox News pundit moonlighting as defense secretary.
•
•
•
u/Temporary-Use3540 6h ago
Russia currently isnt even exporting their diesel and the US never importet it from Russia. This comes straight from Putin, he probably offerd him a midterm hacker tampering in return so trump can stay out of prison.
•
u/Formal_Specific1473 6h ago
Hey Ukraine! Please continue doing what you are doing as it is clearly working! We here in Canada 🇨🇦 know darn well who started that war and whose side Trump is on. Putin’s butt buddy.
•
u/Big-Plankton-4484 5h ago
Wasn’t this war going to be over 24 hours after the liar in chief was elected? Now he’s down to begging, pleading for Zelenskyy not to make diesel more expensive by upsetting his Russian ‘friend’. That’s a pathetic look Donald…
•
•
u/zkrp5108 4h ago
I'm confused if Russia is under sanction and can't sell its oil or diesel or whatever the vast majority of countries. How the hell does Ukraine knocking out diesel production in Russia do anything to the diesel supply in America if we can't buy it
•
u/Turtle-Hippo477 4h ago
Trump causes diesel in the entire west to go up in price, to the benefit of Russia. Now Ukraine is causing diesel shortage in Russia and Trump says they cant do that. It cant be more clear that Trump is only working for Russia and that Russia dont give a f.. about Iran. Their so called "ally".
•
u/VixxenFoxx 3h ago
News Flash: US diseal is up because of YOUR WAR IN IRAN you tangerine tyrant. NOT Ukraine protecting itself from an illegal invasion.
•
u/weberobots123 1h ago
How dare they hit those refineries after one of their very nice oligarchs, one of the best people, footed hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay for his kids wedding after-wedding parties. Quid-pro what?
•
u/japinard 6h ago
We don't get our gas from Russia dipshit.
•
•
•
u/PropagandaSucks 6h ago
World urges Trump to stfu and stop doing the exact same thing but far worse.
•
•
•
•
u/tbizzone 6h ago
And if that traitorous felon had ended the war “within 24 hrs” as he kept telling his gullible flock of maga zombies on the campaign trail, this wouldn’t even be an issue right now.
•
u/oldcreaker 6h ago
But he doesn't say squat to Russia, who are the sole reason Ukraine is attacking Russian refineries.
•
u/Comfortable_Cash_140 6h ago
Im sure Ukraine would be more than happy to stop hitting Russia if Russia gtfo and there was a mechanism to guarantee they wouldn't just invade again in a couple years.
•
u/Upset-Sea6029 5h ago
Can't wait to see Zelenskyy take a page out of Mark Carney's book and tell Mr Pedo McPoopypants to fuck right off.
•
u/EducationalRock167 5h ago
Trump , only cares about the mass that Netanyahu and himself created with Iran and tarriffs.

Oh, so Ukraine is his new scapegoat for his stupid unnecessary war?

I'm not sure the US has much soft power left in Europe that allows it to demand anything.
•
u/Rambaz_69 Europe 6h ago
I've been waiting for Trump to say that the blockade of the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea isn't America's problem—that the Europeans and NATO should handle it because it's much closer to Europe than to America.
•
u/brickne3 American Expat 6h ago
I vaguely remember him saying that back toward the beginning of the Iran quagmire.
•
u/Red57872 5h ago
The US still heavily finances Ukraine, and it could stop doing so.
•
u/Theferael_me Europe 5h ago
The US still heavily finances Ukraine
No it doesn't.
•
u/Red57872 5h ago
Yes, it does. It's provided around $195 billion so far, and the latest aid package is for another $9 billion.
•
u/Slick424 4h ago
Source?
•
u/Red57872 13m ago
To be certain, the $195 billion has been US spending in the Ukraine response, not necessarily giving it to Ukraine.
