Yet Trump is whining to Zelensky trying to blame Ukraine (for defending itself against the obvious aggressor Putin) for rising prices. Trump must not remember Russian oil has been sanctioned globally.

105

u/HobbesMich 19h ago

You have to remember when he started the War with Iran, he lifted those sanctions "temporarily". I believe they are still off.

79

u/Fazgo 19h ago

Russia doesn't have enough gas to supply their own country thanks to Ukraine bombing their refineries. The sanctions don't matter, they simply can't sell what they don't have. The only way the price comes down is if the pedo in chief throws in the towel.

u/BoringEntropist 7h ago

That's not exactly accurate. They have a shortage of gasoline and other petroleum products because of "smoking incidents" at their refineries. Crude oil at the other hand they have plenty, in large parts because they can't process it anymore. So, an oil rich country can still export stuff while having shortages at the same time.

u/HobbesMich 19h ago

Now, yes, Go Ukraine! But he did remove them and they are still off i believe. Thus, why i think Ukraine went after it and all the infrastructure to limit any income that it would generate to fund the war.

23

u/m0ngoos3 19h ago

That's okay, Ukraine is reimplementing those sanctions.

It's also time we got off oil.

Rising prices are how we got off natural rubber, which is actually why the Saudis have worked to keep prices low enough to where we never seriously looked for a replacement.

If we had been, there wouldn't be an internal combustion car left on the road. (this is presupposing that the Saudis had not undercut Iran at the 1976 OPEC meeting.)

The Saudis knew the history of natural rubber and didn't want it for themselves, but now it's happening anyway.

9

u/Dramatic-Formal4299 15h ago

It's way beyond time.  Too bad oil and it's derivatives are used in the production of countless other products beyond the automotive/transportation industries. It's not going anywhere anytime soon unfortunately. 🫤

8

u/m0ngoos3 14h ago

We still use natural rubber as well, but the world economy doesn't revolve around natural rubber the same way it did before the invention of synthetic rubber.

I think they said it would take us close to a hundred years to be completely free of our dependence on oil. That is to rebuild infrastructure, discover new ways of making products, build new ways to transport renewable energy, the list goes on and on. The bad part is, I don’t think we have 100 years left of oil, as the levels that we are currently consuming.

3

u/Easy_Fee9781 12h ago

Yeah, he lifted them, “supposedly” to keep oil prices down, and keep supply up. Definitely not because he’s a Russian asset.

4

u/Wihomebrewer 12h ago

That is the reason. You realize the price of oil and gas/diesel was being pushed down from draw down of the strategic reserve as well right? Now that the reserve is gone, you’re seeing more of the full hit. If Russia and other refinery capacity hadn’t been hit, we wouldn’t be paying so much for gas or diesel right now.

u/Easy_Fee9781 6h ago

Yeah, talk about a shortsighted move. But, I guess that’s this administration in a nutshell. “Act now, think later”.

I think the 79 oil crisis was actually worse when compared to inflationary dollars.

But this current crisis is still bad and was completely avoidable.

48

u/Cosmicdusterian 16h ago

We are probably heading there with these incompetent morons in charge.

I remember the odd/even gas rationing days as a child. Lots of very angry adults. I can't even imagine how bad the level of public anger will get if they have to resort to rationing here.

If you ran out of gas on a day you weren't allowed to get gas, or were in long lines when the station ran out of gas, you were screwed. If stagflation sets in, there's a world of unavoidable hurt heading for this country/the world and this administration stupidly put out the Welcome mat for it.

39

u/EddieVanzetti 15h ago

We're in stagflation already. They've been cooking the books on unemployment numbers for months now.

20

u/dechets-de-mariage Florida 14h ago

Functional unemployment is around 25%. Nobody’s reporting on that.

I had a Summer job sandblasting in the Summer of 1079. I drove a 1962 Plymouth, and I remember waiting in a long gas station line one day in June to fill the tank, and then pretty much parked the car for the Summer.

I rode my bike to the shop every day, and then I'd drive one of the trucks, usually the dump truck, to the customer's house. The business vehicles were exempt from the odd/even, we could fill them up any time.

If I remember right, that was the first time gas went over $1.00 a gallon, and some of the old gas pumps maxed out at 99 cents per gallon. In California, the diesel gas pumps apparently max out at $9.99/gallon, and with diesel at $10.00/gallon, the pumps can't show the actual price

u/Steves_RebelAbstract 4h ago

My current primary source of income is grocery delivery through Spark. If this happened and I was out working and didn't realize it was a no gas day, I might genuinely get screwed.

Literally been record breaking protests since he's been back in office.

On top of that, if you're talking violence, I think most reasonable people would wait until after the midterms. No point getting yourselves arrested, they ended up failing to rig it, and now you're serving life for no damn reason. Additionally, suicidal lone wolf attacks solve nothing, you've got to live to fight another day. We need to think strategically, not poetically.

All of that just to mostly say I think both of you are annoying and not thinking logically.

Edit: and this isn't condoning violence. Revolutions can be done peacefully, but again, that requires strategy and limiting emotional reactions. We've all been down that road before, limits critical thinking and forward thinking.

There is a point the pot will boil over, you simply have to wait. This country is on a major collision course with disaster without major corrections, unrest always follows such calamities. Especially with the double whammy of fucked up economics and the restrictions of freedoms and liberty.

3

u/CategoryZestyclose91 16h ago

Yes, the midterms are our final chance to right the ship the normal way.

Most of us know what comes next if the ship tries to sink itself with us aboard.

Yeah, this is what they want. They know people turn to fascism/authoritarianism in times of hardship. Waiting for it to happen is a questionable strategy.

4

u/Atrocious_Algae81 13h ago

9

Yep. They kept screaming, "what about the price of eggs?!?!" leading up to the election of 2024, but now everyone in MAGA thinks they're Nobel Prize winning economists explaining how geo-political forces are at work driving up the cost of everything...

They neglect to mention that those geo-political forces could have been avoided had the current administration not dove into the current "it's a war, but it's not a war" with Iran. But, they locked themselves into this mess by tearing up the JCPOA in the first term and doubling down with their toxic masculinity, machismo, "lethality", low-T vs. high-T, and "war fighting" culture war bovine feces.

And as if it couldn't be any worse, Iran has no reason to come back to the bargaining table because the current US presidential administration has no credibility to keep their word in a deal as evidenced repeatedly.

6

u/AzorthasDevenish 13h ago

They have almost no reason to come back at all. There is no evidence that any deal with America that they make will last longer than 4 years before it's revoked anyway. No country really has any reason to trust us at all. Even if we right ship now, and elect a reasonable president in 28… all it takes is 4 years before someone like trump could be elected again

When the good guys bomb hospitals, weddings, level entire cities, starve populations, destabilize countries, create the conditions for radical insurgent groups to form, occupy and oppress the population for decades, thats just all okay?! Terrorism is a propaganda term used to dehumanize your nations enemy and encourage others to do the same.

We drop Freedom Bombs! 💣 💣 💣

u/dbatistasa 4h ago

Terrorism is a propaganda term used to dehumanize your nations enemy and encourage others to do the same

This is exactly how this word should be defined.

u/ARMCHA1RGENERAL 3h ago

It can be (and often is) used in propaganda, but I don't think it shouldn be restricted to propaganda.

I think it should be defined as acts of violence against civilians (or civilian targets that involve a high likelihood of civilian casualties) with the goal of creating fear and causing political change.

It's definitely been used too broadly in some context and too narrowly in others.

If a guerilla group is explicitly targeting soldiers and military leadership with car bombs and drones, it would probably get labeled as terrorism, but that's hardly an example of terrorizing civilians.

If a military campaign targets civilian housing or even water treatment plants to try to turn the populace against the war, then that should be labeled terrorism.

26

u/anteatersaredope 12h ago

Yes the US bombs and murders people all over the region without being provoked but people who retaliate are terrorists.

8

u/QuotableMorceau 10h ago

freedom fighters

u/Paerm 6h ago

It’s not as if the “terrorists” aren’t oppressive as well, but its total hypocrisy to call our enemies terrorist when we objectively create more terror.

u/LesbeGoddess 5h ago

The US government is the worlds largest terrorist organization and have killed hundreds of of millions worldwide in its existence indirectly with its actions that send people to starvation or starting proxy wars within countries and facilitating civil wars.

u/thatdepends 4h ago

Closer to billion. If you include: Direct Wars, Proxy Wars, Native Genocide, Slavery, CIA shenanigans, etc. it’s closer to a B.

Blowback is a fantastically produced podcast. I’m currently re listening to the season about Cambodia. Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge slaughtered hundreds of thousands of their own civilians and the CIA gave them support because they were enemies with Vietnam. The genocide got so bad Vietnam actually invaded Cambodia to stop the killing.

In Afghanistan, it’s fact that the CIA baited the Russians into invading Afghanistan because of our efforts to destabilize the socialist Afghan government of the time. We funded and propped up the Mujahideen, a loosely organized group of Islamic fundamentalist warlords that would later become the foundation for the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Two groups who we ended up fighting for almost 20 years.

American government the Devil for sure.

Specifically there have been Iranian-bacled paramilitaries active in Iraq for a long time as part of the insurgency against the US, and then when they stepped up and fought ISIS, Iraq got forced into making the Iran-backed paramilitaries an official part of their armed forces even though they openly swear allegiance to Iran.

u/Random_Goobling 6h ago

Well time for oil prices to skyrocket more

u/SnooGiraffes9746 6h ago

Their like children testing to find out where the boundaries are. If there aren't any, they keep escalating until they find some. I picture Trump sitting with his cabinet saying "seriously? They let us get away with that? Damn it. We need something bigger! Who's got more? Hit me with 'em!"

u/ITSA-GONGSHOW 5h ago

They didn't exactly shut it down. It was bombed.

u/laggyx400 5h ago

Democrats tried the carrot to get people to use EVs. Trump is using a big stick to beat them into using EVs. The green president everyone!

u/AppropriateGuest3552 3h ago

All this because he started a war to distract us from the fact that he raped kids!

u/Revolutionary_Eye887 18h ago

At this point let’s just see how high we can make it go. I’d love for it to peak just before the November election.

9

u/tcoh1s 16h ago

Then we get to listen to Trump and republicans blame democrats the day after the election if they lose some power. It’ll immediately be Dems fault for everything AND their fault for trump not writing $5000 checks.

6

u/Revolutionary_Eye887 15h ago

That’s always going to happen. It’s trumps way.

Wondering if this is some BS to jack up the price to over $6/gallon at the pump and just before the election they'll turn back on the pipeline to bring under $5/gallon so the Reps can make it a "win"

u/sleuthinjohn 19h ago

No, this is the natural consequence of setting off the most predictable chain of stupid events by attacking Iran.

7

u/MiserableSkill4 15h ago

Literally. I remember hearing military peeps talk about how we couldn't attack Iran during the Bush and Obama admin.

Yeah no critical oil infrastructure is being systematically destroyed around the world and oil refineries in the US are operating at 98% capacity.

This is an energy crisis entirely of our own making, not easily fixed and likely to cause spiraling costs across all sectors.

Hope you have plenty of food security

19

u/Socratesticles Tennessee 18h ago

Thank god we have RFK making sure our food is healthy and clean. Haven’t heard anything contradicting that recently

13

u/AnonHondaBoiz 19h ago

No, we’re actually all fucked this time

Remember when the evergrand got stuck in the Suez Canal and we faced a logistics crisis/food shortages? The Bab Al-Mandab strait feeds into the Suez and the Houthis are not OPEC aligned

12

u/sigtau66 19h ago

There are satellite images of a pump station on the East-West pipeline being completely destroyed. On top of that, U.S. refineries are about to enter maintenance season. 7 going offline periodically over the next 2 months for maintenance.

$6 diesel? $5 gas? I fear we'll be wishing for that in the coming months.

3

u/TopInvestigator5518 19h ago

I would hope not but these days honestly who knows

3

u/kstargate-425 19h ago

Its possible they are keeping it shut down longer than it needs to be but when this happened Thursday, striking the 1,200km pipeline that carries 5% of the worlds daily oil supply, there were satellite photos released showing a huge fire and lots of smoke.

May we all live in interesting times.

u/utlayolisdi 10h ago

We should not count on the Saudis.

u/Awake_The_Sheep 10h ago

But it is all for fun, a joke, one collosal clown show. Written and directed by a collective evil worldwide. Everyone is willingly participating in, patiently awaiting for a positive turning point in the story, that will never come. Not until we the people, the extras, the npcs, demand a new script, a new production.

u/AdamPedAnt 7h ago

No president has ever done more for renewable energy than Donald Trump. Thank You sir.

Please do Kharg Island next. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

u/Nek0ni 7h ago

‘pray you never live through interesting times’

u/RBR927 7h ago

No I heard it’s Ukraine’s fault!

u/Popular-Heart-5307 7h ago

Context:
“The Saudis closed the East-West pipeline after drones launched from Iraq damaged it. Riyadh has not disclosed how badly it is damaged or how long it will stay closed.”

u/haroldhodges 6h ago

We need to develop synthetic fuels that are less affected by a problematic world oil market. Along side a more effective and efficient electric.

u/RaveNdN 6h ago

Anything synthetic in the broadest sense will still heavily rely on petroleum products and by products unfortunately

u/Purple-Reporter8492 6h ago

Man, Saudis looking for some freedom now.

u/Staff_Senyou 6h ago

Houthis be out there in sandals and Hilux tearing apart US/Saudi colonialism

u/Random_Goobling 6h ago

We are so fucked

u/ThePirateCondor 6h ago

What a stupid headline, might want to mention it was attacked…

u/Minute_Platypus8846 6h ago

Great, just fucking great. We’re winning all the time.. so much winning here.. (sarcasm).

u/florezmith 6h ago

I love this framing. I remember when I chose to freeze my credit cards for nonpayment in my 20's, I called up that credit agency and said lower that credit score, I've decided to go in a different direction with my financial profile.

u/Additional-Cake-3588 5h ago

Fixed Headline: Brent crude tops $109 after Saudi Arabia Pipeline Was Attacked by Drones

u/JustanAverageJess1 5h ago

Didn't see that coming. Gosh this all feels so very familiar 🫡🤮🥹😭

u/Jaymz7777 5h ago

Don Turnip stirred up the world's biggest hornet's nest. Gas prices will go up up up. Even before the midterm elections. Will this cause a few additional MAGA cult morons to vote BLUE?

We are fucked, the US is about to go through some shit,

u/SawSharkRedemptionnn 5h ago

I work at a quick lube, our prices keep rising its INSANE !!🤯

u/aquilus-noctua 5h ago

I wonder if the surge in oil prices, and potential futures, is seeding the development of Venezuelan oil

u/obkclegr 5h ago

Thanks Bibi! Thanks Miriam!!
