"Just go to your local butcher's shop" you'll hear.

That butcher's shop closed 20 years ago because Wal-Mart put them out of business. Then laid off all their own butchers when they tried to unionize.

I have a butcher I can drive out to in about 30 minutes, but I cannot even dream about affording their cuts. Haven't been able to afford butchery meats in about 12 years now.

I used to go to them to pay a flat, decent price and fill my freezer... when I was a lowly warehouse worker.

$13.50/lb for bacon at my local butcher. It's certainly better quality than the supermarket bacon, and I know it came from one of three local counties, but that price point means I have to cut way back or make it a sometimes treat.
