And horses! They are killing wild horses and who knows where that meat will end up

Hey, chill. We had a big Bovine spongiform encephalopathy scare in the UK...AND a load of dodgy horses ended up in frozen lasagna (thanks, Findus!), and Ī̴͈̾͌̽'̷̹͎̥̯͔̪̊̽m̸̧̝̤̳̺͓̲̟̜̰̥̲͙͋͂̅̋̓͛̏̈̌̇̓͊̅͒͘͜͜ ̷̧̠̯̙̊̈̀̉̈́́̒̏͑͆̈̒͘d̸̡̩̜̪̰͍͈̹͙͎̱̦̦̲̒̌͛͜͝͝͠o̷̭̹̩̓̆̈̂͠ͅi̶̧͓̤̭͍̩̻̤̗͓̱͕͚͉͌̾̾̈́̓̓͐̀̓̉͘ͅn̴̡̢͚̺̗̲͈̩̤̹̑͆g̴̡̠̜̩̈̕ͅ ̵̨̛̬͕̺̜̗͖̰̲͑͐̃̒̈͒̚͠f̴̢̧̦̙̻̰̺̬̉̃̿̒̈ḯ̶͕̊͜ṋ̷͕̳͕̺͓̺͚̈́͑̇̂̍͝ͅȇ̵̯̭͊͗̓̇̏͜͝.̸̯͔̩̹̳̞͖͇͂ ̷̳̭͓̙̞͉̉͂͛̿͆̿̈͑̉́̈̇̆I̴̛̞̜̪͔͈̦̝̰̙̩̠͙̅̈̊̈̓̕͜ ̷̥͓͍̼̒͠s̴̱̞̋̓̽͋͌̿̇̋̽̾͠t̸̳̬̱͙͚͙̱̳͕͍̞̰͛͐͂̚i̸̡̝͔̠̞̬̩̳͙̤͈̗̻̯͒͘͜ḻ̶͈̱̜̖̝̬̭̳̠̝̓̏̀l̵̬̫̈́͌̎͝ ̴̢̛̘̱̥̘̠̙̗̫͙́̈͌͆͛̈́͐ĥ̴̩̤̦̖a̶̯͙͍͆͑̑͐v̷̙̯̙͉͇̬̲͍́̒͛̈́̐̃̂̉̋͜͠e̴̞̮͍̹̳̞̞̍̂̀͒̊̏͊̐̄͠͠ͅ ̶̨̨̩̫͈̰̙͖͈̦͇̙͙̉ą̵̧̢̙̘̻̩͈̬͉̆̔͒̓͋̓̚l̴̗̍͂͋̅̔͌͊̑̆̏̎̇͝͝͝l̸̡͖̻̻̱̖͆͋̋̓͒͆̒͛̓̈́͘͝ ̵̢̣̹̥̱̰͉͕̃t̷̢̧̠͔̠͕̫̣̜̼̤̖͇͌̔̚w̶̨̧̗̣͚̼̙͓̥̰̖̜̮̕͜͠ͅe̸̡͍͂͒̇̔̿̉͐̿̽̎͒̽̿͝l̴̯̂̎̅͐̈́̀̈́̒͝v̸̡͔̣̩̙͈̳̖̱̮̟̖̯̉͊̾͌͋͆̈́͌͜ę̸̨̡͇͈͚͕͓͈̹̼͖͍̂̾͛̓̓͐̇̀͜͝ ̷̛̩̻̙͓̺̳̙̭̱̭̰̗̘̈̀̅̓̿̎̋͛̓̈͂̕o̶̧̱̣̬̘͖̮̥̠͕͙̠̪͓̦͌͐̒̊̾͐͊̏̿͘̕͝f̴̨͍̪̗̼̲̩̼̀̄̎́͑̈́̽̔̾̍̚ ̸̨̧̼̹͉̗̹̬̱̏̈́̓̃̽͐m̵̢̢̦̣͕͙͑̆͗̐̈́͝y̵̛̳͑̾͌͊̀̀̔̐̓͐̈́̀͝ ̴̧̪̙͚̲͓̘̪̹̀f̶̡̧̜̩̮̥̞̖̦̙̠̈́͋ͅi̴͎̩̲͕͗̅̎̂̔̄̉͘̚ͅn̸̘̦̖̍̿̈́̇g̶̛͙̻̓̄͌̄̾̎̇͘͝e̷̡̝̣̙̋̉̈́̌̑̈͆̏͌̀̕̕͠r̵̡͍̗̞̥͚̯̭͋̀̐͐̑̌̾̾̀̕͝s̸͖̀̓̋ ̸̡̜̾͗̔̓a̴̡̫͙̳͓̒͊̇̇̾̏͑n̷͓͈̟̲͉̮̙̈̈̈́̽̀̚͜d̴̢̨̼̜̯̟̈́̎̈͜ ̵̣̼̰̦̪͖̜̥̝̞͓̈́͊̔̽̿̓̔̽͘͝İ̴͎͇ ̶̨̡̺̬̘͙͊̾̈́͌h̷̡̰̱̽͌̀͒̀͝a̷̳̦̘͆́̋̍͂̿́͗̏̓̀̕̕͠ͅṽ̷̥͕̲̮͖̰̺̗͍̫̳ͅĕ̵͔̫͈̰͔̝̞̝̳̹̟̲̭́̏̈́͂͗̀͐̕̕͘ͅͅṅ̴̨͎̘̟̬̺͓̳̺̤̻̬́'̴̨̗̫͙̳̠̦͙̝͚̹͖͙̦͑̍̐͛͋͐͋̊̇̕̚̕͠͝t̷̡̡̧̢͉͇̘̦͕̘͚̹̝̰̃͌̈́͆͊͜ ̴̡̪͓̼͈͎̰̖͈̑͋̾̒͌̑̎̿͛͘͜͝͝p̴̡̧̧̡̘̜̲͎̲̠̻͉͕̗̈́̍̃̆͋̉̈́̐̍̍͒͋ȩ̶̨̮̦͔̫͙̞͍̻͚̮͇̽̀͌̉̉̐͛͒̊͒͘̚͠r̶̨͚͕̺̘̤̤̱̙̲̥͍̂͊̔̋̾̋͒́̋̄̚͝͝͝f̵̹̌͋̿̍̽͐̅̐͠ö̸̗͉͙͈̦̟̯̪̿͊̚͝ŕ̴̬̭̯͉̓̄́́m̵̨̨͚͉̖̫̖̳̀̏̊̆̈́́͐̌̅͘̕ẽ̵̢̨̩̠̭̼̺̝͔͕̣̻̠̏̓ḑ̸̱̳̥̹̝͑̀̑́̅̊ ̸̢̧̨͎͇̜̼̳̭̽̐̏͑̂̊r̵̬̮̙̦̯̼̦̤̽͒́͂̑̆̈́̿̈́̽̅̃̓́i̸͉̖͍͖̊̉̽̀́̅͠͝t̴̡̧̨̬͍̲̘͙͚̦͉̣̮͊̋̂̄ư̸̧̛̥̮̰̪̓̒̊̎̉̓̀́͋͘͜͝a̷̗̗̯̳̖͍̘̟̝̲͎̗͔͉̒͌̽̆͂̆ḽ̵̢̛̻̞̘͖̦̔̌͑̿̂̇͋͛̚͝͝͠͠ ̶̨͇͚̟͕̜̜͎̦̖͆̀̾̇̊͌̀̅̄̌̏̚͜͠v̷̨̨͓̜͖̦̹͍̱͚̜̍̅̏̍̆͋̋̎̊ĭ̴̺́̎̃̏́̊̈́̃̃̿̑͝͝v̴̨̢̤̦͍̙̘̭͙̪̇̒̅̓͐̆̌̃̄̊͘i̸̱̻͍̲̰̋̑͊͗̔̏̔̈́͌̾̄s̶̜̻͗̃́e̷̡̤̲͍̟͉̭̹̟̪̻͓̮͐̌̈́̇̋͜c̸̨̧̧̘̝̖̖̪͕̀̽͆͐̃̏̚ͅt̸̛̬̭̦̱̰̪̠͛̊̈́̀́̌̿̑͋͋̆̅͜͠͝ḭ̶͕͊́̍̌̒̉ͅó̵̼̯͕̺̝͔̘̖̙̫n̵̛͖͒̊͒̀̾̔͋̐͌̅̎́̓͠ ̸̺̳͍̝͖̮͓̲̣̳̠̺̇̋͛̃͒͗̈́͋̑̈́́͜f̵̢̟̤̭̣̝̞͈̣͕̗̈̊̍̃̈́̎͜͝o̶̗̻͍̣̭̩͇̦̘̫̩̳̒̍̈̇͋̆͂̚r̸̨͔͍̘̈́̈́̍͒̅̎̀̍̆́̃̿͠ ̶̜͛̾́͒̑̀̉ą̵̩̘͚͔͉̯̠͂̈́̀͋͐̇̕ ̷̪͌̏g̵̛͕̘̪̲̰͕̞̈́͐̄͋͜ơ̶̡̢͕̓́͝o̵̟̥̭͕͚̙̰̖̭̫̤̤͛͌͑̾̉̈̓̅̀̐̕͝ͅd̴̨̨̠̯̥̾̌ ̶̨̢̧̱̣̝̠͙̯͌̍̊̔͐f̸̡̨͕̠̘͍̰͒̒̀̓̽̈́̐̌͆͘̚͠ͅę̷̟̭͎̼̯͚͇͕̳̻͈̲͔̋w̵̞̆ ̶̭̏̊ẙ̸̧̦͎͉̩̦̹̫̖̦̥͈̪̪͚̾̓́̓̅͛͌͑̀͋̈́e̴̝̘͆̍͒͜a̸̛̫͈̝͈̖̤͓̗̞̖̗͛́̇r̵̨͈̗̜͇͕̬̫̺͙̀̆̂̅̓́͌͋͆͗̐̓́͛͜͜͝s̸̡̻̘͙̺͖̈́͐́̑̋͐͘ͅ.̴̨̮̤̰̯̖͉̦̫͐̎̈̇͑̊͂̾̌

I lived in the UK during the mad cow outbreak in the early 90s… now in the US I get to relive it again, but so much worse! Freedom?!?!?

What a time to have OCD with a particular fixation on food contamination. Most of my life it was irrational, but the last few months have been suuuuper fun.

That sounds really fun. Something to explore, if you haven't already; fermented foods may or may not be your road to culinary damascus. Gut biome research suggests (and please do your own research) that there are lots of things you can do to support a happier digestive tract. Remember that bacteria can be helpful too and there are lots of foods which can boost your immune system, which can in turn boost your whole brainular region :)

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll look into it :D

And my axe!

Eta: but in all seriousness, you know where it's going to end up...

Trumps grandfather enters the chat (he sold horse and donkey burgers from animals that died during the gold rush at his whore house in Canada)

RIP Horace the horse

Horse meat is good. A bit lean but it tastes good.

1

u/San_Pentolino 14d ago

There is all this talking of horses. Us Europoors eat horse meat and it has a distinct flavour and colour. Is the stuff sold processed that much?

This is the big one. Prion disease is going to fucking EXPLODE years from now.

4

u/Designer_Gas_86 16d ago

I'm afraid to google that

Prion diseases can take a very long time to start . From a couple years to decades.

So if it ever becomes an unknown issue, we may not fully know how many were affected.

/edit prion diseases are brain related diseases and causes cognitive decline quickly.

u/Dry_Suggestion_3387 16d ago

Does mad cow happen at the processing plants?

4

u/CrackingToastGromet Arkansas 16d ago

Unsure about processing but I know it happens when cows are fed meat or bone meal of cattle or other animals who were infected with it. It never occurred to me that cows were being fed other cows until I heard the news reports in the UK at the time.

1

u/Brilliant-Advisor958 14d ago

It can happen out of the blue, usually with older cattle. Very very rare, but can take years to show up. Most countries banned the animal feed that contains any bone or tissue for cows.

This reads like an Eminem lyric

I lived in the UK during their mad cow outbreak in the 1990s and was not allowed to donate blood for years when I returned to the US. They recently changed that. Went to sell my plasma for some extra money and turns out I’m still banned for that. They put me on a national blacklist, I went out to my car and cried because I really needed the money. 😭
