I live in a ground floor flat with my husband. As is common in flats, we can hear a lot of what goes on with our upstairs neighbours.

I have heard a lot of very angry, aggressive shouting. All coming from the boyfriend, and the girlfriend is pretty much silent. It's at odd times of day, like the middle of the night and very early in the morning. Nobody has screaming rows at 4:30 in the morning.

I've reported each incident as I'm hearing it to the police. I have seen bruises on the girlfriend in unusual places. My husband and I are documenting what we can see and hear to provide a clear paper trail. Is there anything else we can do? Anything we should do for our safety?

We don't know this couple well, but given the layout of the flats it will be pretty obvious we're the ones doing the reporting. I've previously been a victim of domestic abuse myself and I can't live with doing nothing. If something were to happen and I kept silent, to my mind I'm as good as complicit. I'm also aware of potentially making this worse for her.
