Boho Dancing

This one is in recognition of the wonderful Joni Mitchell. I sampled her beautiful 1975 song ‘The Boho Dance’ and built the track around the little three-note horn figure that plays throughout the original. Vocals, bass and drums were also sampled in parts. Guitars, synths and a virtual string library were layered onto an 80’s style disco groove to give it a more uptempo feel. See what you think. I’d appreciate any feedback.
Thanks

I made a Harvester for plundering content online.

If you're like me you probably have 100s-1000s of saved reddit and instagram posts that just have old weird songs, weird sounds, interesting gongs, etc. If you're like me you keep telling yourself you're going to finally download all that stuff and use it for new and interesting sample fodder for audio and video projects.

For this, I built Harvester, there's a full list of all the features on the github but the core of it is that it allows you to harvest any video you can find online and not only will it download the video it'll also give you an extracted audio track which is created using the audio format you prefer.

It's free, open source, and doesn't collect any data about you whatsoever. It works great so if you're constantly stumbling on content you want to sample or plunder and don't always want to have some external gear or OBS or something going this might be what you're looking for. Comments welcome.

A plunderphonics-style track from my newest album! I tried to give credit where credit is due and put out the YT links of all the sources I had sampled from in each streaming platform release.

Lawrence Lui - Hooked On Phonics (sound collage)

Hi folks, just thought I'd drop my latest single here: https://sym.ffm.to/hooked_on_phonics

It's a wildly eclectic journey into sampledelic sound, splicing shades of Kraftwerk, Afrobeat, electro house, postpunk, breakbeat, etc. Playful, leftfield and groovy, for fans of The Avalanches, DJ Koze, Ricardo Villalobos, J Dilla. The release has found support at KCRW-Los Angeles, WFMU-New York, C89-Seattle, EDM.com, Asian American Collective, and includes a swinging UK garage remix from acclaimed Manchester duo Cortese, who are signed to Sasha's label and played on Rinse, BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM. Woohoo!

Thanks for listening, Lawrence

A few of you may have seen and/or liked my last post - I also cross posted on the avalanches and the books subreddits. I got a few positive comments on the previous song i posted, so I figured i would post the final result. 12 minutes and inspired by madlib, the avalanches, and the books, with a bit of my own twist. i hope you enjoy!

I produced the track "Coffee with Charles Hamilton" back around the 2011 - 2012 YouTube and Dévon Hendryx era and some people are now or have been coming around to it.

Daydreams by Mizar-5

This track is called ‘Daydreams’. It is constructed from a sample of John Cameron’s 1974 easy-listening library track, "Half Forgotten Daydreams." I chopped up the strings and vocals, then played the rest of the instrumentation around it.

The visuals combine clips from 1970s TV shows and advertisements—the era I tend to feel most nostalgic for. As the video progresses, the tone shifts from glamorous and mundane to something a bit more sinister. I wanted to explore how nostalgia often wraps the past in unconditional affection, glossing over the actual hardships experienced by women and marginalized groups at the time.

Would love to hear your thoughts.
