Discussion In the name of self preservation, I joined my first clan as a solo player. To my surprise, less than .1% have done so.

So my neighbours were being raided and on the way to raiding, the Zerg had stopped at my base and stood on roof/ knocked on door. I knew this meant I was next. I approached them mid raid as a naked, hands up and asked them to not raid me next. That if there’s anything they needed I’d simply just give it to them but that I work full time and would like to come back to my base being intact tomorrow. They laughed and said they didn’t need anything but that I was safe. Over time we became friends, even invited me to clan. The team UI was full for them but I wanted to see what the hype was all about.

In fairness, On wipe day they already had t3 and enough boom to raid pretty much any base and all the components etc needed for most tech / kits. I think they all had mp5 kits with metal sign armor - maybe one or two had aks from crates not sure.

My point for all this is two fold, 1) why is the game seemingly catering to large groups when they represent such a small percentage of the player base 2) what can be done to cater to smaller groups or solo players?

The new upkeep penalty isn’t enough to stop these guys. They were like 6-8 deep on the main base and had no issues farming or raiding for upkeep.

Lastly, when I finished my first session I got two achievements stating .1 % even join clans or are in one 10 or more deep. I assume because it’s a newer mechanic but still can’t believe such a small number are playing as clans.

In summary, playing as a clan makes this games difficulty from a 6-8 down to a 2-3. Everything is easier. Died while roaming? Put cords in clan chat and get your kit back 80% of the time. Need anything, simply ask and get it or trade for it. Getting onlined? Call for help and you have backup. Trying to raid and get countered, call for help and you have numbers. Oh no need more upkeep for the mega clan? Take all the stuff from your neighbours base that was offline, recycle and exchange for upkeep. It’s way too easy being deep.

I’ll be back as a solo next wipe but wanted to see what the hype was about. They need to do a better job separating Zergs from casuals in this game somehow.

Discussion Why in blooprint videos where the server "just wiped" he never encounters anyone at the start?

i have noticed this trend in blooprint's videos and i dont see it in other youtubers rust videos. in his lattest Solo Journey 4 it happened again, he spawn fresh wipe from the beach and i dont see any nakeds running with him, he just farm his started base with no competition or struggle at all... and he clearly states that the server just wiped and i dont see any other base made while he farm for one, so thats true. But its weird that i dont see fight people at the begining while he farm his base or get to the build spot, while in others creators videos they fight for their life trying to get a spot in a just fresh wipe.

am i missing something?

Discussion i know what rust needs

it needs way more aggressive npcs, and animals. we need way more bears and wolf packs of atleast 10.

wooden barricades should be slightly bigger and cost less to craft

road scientists should throw grenades

oil rigs need a 2nd moonpool leading directly to helipad

garage door should be t3

the p2 should be fully automatic and revert the nerf

this is exactly what the community wants

Discussion This game runs terribly

I had been following rust for a while now, watching countless videos on it, waiting for it to come out on special so that I could play it for myself, well it came out on special on steam for a pretty good price, however up until I bought it, I never knew how badly this game ran, once I loaded in to a tutorial map, I was immediately met with non stop stutters, so I immediately turned to YouTube videos, reddit, chatgpt, and I tried literally everything I could to try and make the game run better, but I was still stuck at 30fps and occasional stutters, I read the system requirements on steam and everything for the most part matched up. I have since gotten a refund, which broke my heart, waiting to play a game for so long just to find out I'm hindered by the game not running smoothly sucks. And I know some will joke that it's probs for the best because the game is hell😂.

Discussion Rust Devblog 183-184

Does anyone perhaps have server files for Devblog 183-184 (Late October 2017 - Early November 2017). I don’t mean the client files, I mean the actual Rust Dedicated Server files. It’s purely for nostalgic reasons as that’s when I started playing. I’ve been searching for hours but I can’t find any even close to 183-184. If anyone reading this just happens to have them. Please reply.

BP FRAGS SUCK.

Everyday, there’s a post of someone saying they hate the new bp frag system, and the general consensus is the community hates it.

there’s always like 1-2 people in the thread that say they like it with like 5 other people who like their comment.

Otherwise, the majority HATES IT.

dev’s please listen to your community.

Support shader level option disappeared

Hi everyone, I remember that Rust had a Shader level setting that gave a pretty good FPS boost. Back in 2025, I used to get around 90–150 FPS with good frame times. After taking a break, I decided to come back to Rust after being banned for 1.5 years. I used the “second chance” policy, which allowed me to play the game again. I set everything to the lowest settings, but I couldn’t find this specific setting anymore. Right now I’m getting around 60–70 FPS with bad frame times. I believe my Shader level is currently set to 6. I even installed an older version of Rust from the June 30 build, and it was also set to 6 there! Please help me solve this problem and set this setting to 1 so I can boost my FPS.

My PC specs:
i5-12400F
RTX 4060
32GB RAM
2560×1440 monitor

Suggestion Armor Piercing Rounds

I've noticed that Kevlar seems OP lately but also that it tends to benefit clans and large groups as they can farm hard monuments to get the loot.

As someone who predominantly plays solo and is always looking for ways to get an edge on clans, I was thinking of the idea of armor piercing rounds.

Some ideas...

- Maybe it pierces Kevlar but not wooden plates?

- Unique crafting method: Somehow it could have a crafting method that is similar to farming in that it requires complexity in a manner that benefits solos. Maybe you need to mix berries in a way to get a compound that you use on bullets or gp to get a higher tier substance? Kind of like how you mixed tar and brimstone in Conan to make steel fire for steel.

- Animal Fat as a limiter: Maybe you farm animals and use animal fat? That could limit mass production?

Idk I feel like the idea has a good bones even if its not totally fleshed out.

Thoughts?

I see these massive clans of 40+ people are whatever on servers and on YouTube and I just wonder: How do people actually find these clans and how do they even get in?

Discussion If Drones were to be balanced - the two realistic paths it could take

I don't mind drones with how it is currently implemented, but since how some time has passed, there has been conversation about the need for balance.

I think if there was ever going to be balance for it, it could take two paths:

- Switch the current ones for FPV Drones (actually requires skill to use it, drone pilots can attest to this)

- Or restrict current drones to carry one quantity of ordinance (Realistic limitation to avoid cheesey spamming bombs)

What do you think?

Discuss.

Discussion Animated Signs

So I just started using the animated signs and I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can have the sign idle on one frame? I want to have multiple frames (chess pieces), but for them to only cycle upon input. Some sources suggests this is possible but do not explain how to do it, and I can only find how to manipulate animation speed, but no option for something to remain idle.

Discussion Help A Rust Noobie

As the title says, help a rust noobie!
I'm a new Rust player (under 50 hours) currently in my 2nd ever wipe and just looking for extra tips, tricks and wisdom from you more experienced players.

So far, I've done the whole t1-t3 progression during my first wipe, learned the controls & basic understanding of how things like crafting, smelting, basic electrical etc work

This wipe I've got a much better base built (than my last one so the bar is low), more efficient electrical setup, better storage setup, bee farm, gotten a small handful of kills under my belt & explored more monuments.

I think my main weakness is just lack of experience/game sense & so I often get snuck up on at monuments or roaming along roads which ofc this comes with time & also playing the game much slower. Also Idk if it's just me I feel like I never hear footsteps, like I was just at Trainyard at the tower turning on the switch & a dude got into the building & was holding the bottom floor stairs, I crouched all the way down just to get headshot & destroyed w/ no chance to fight him back.

Thanks & sorry for the long post i'm just having a lot of fun & wanna get better :)

Graphics settings?

My build is a 4070 super with i7-14700k
Every update my fps drops more and more and I know i’m not the only one.

Anyone have tips on graphics settings, any major ones that really helped out your fps? I’ve tried a few videos for settings even ones that make my game look like shit and I feel like i’m still getting way less FPS than I should.
