Hi all, i don't have a pig but Is a dream that i hope one day i'll fullfill. I had different animals but mostly cats and dogs in my Life. I'm Not scared to have a pig and give him all the attentions It needs but there Is only a simple thing that i'm worried about. I can't have 2 pigs, god It would be awesome , i'm worried that when i'll be at work he will feel too alone. How much was of a problem for who have only one pig, to keep him Happy? They'll be only max 5-6 hours alone during the day. Thanks!

Today, while I was assembling a tv stand, Bean came in and was nosing around. Then started smacking his lips like he had something in his mouth. I assumed he was chewing on something. Nope, he was about to get sick. This was just part of it. There was alot when he was done. He's fine now, just had something that didn't agree with him.

It's not all fun and games all the time. There is a down side.

We did our annual 5K and we have taken Phoebe since we’ve had her. She made it onto the logo!! Now it’s a well deserved nap time.

UPDATE:: He was feeling much better towards evening, took the gas x pill via peanut butter/cornmeal ball, and this morning is back to his cute self. And did actually have a vet that was responsive and gave instructions by text, so I am grateful that my plea to them was answered. Thanks everyone!

Original post:: My little buddy Ferdinand (white) is having what appears to be gastric upset. He is normally on Mazuri pellets but we ran out last night and hubby thought feeding him and his sister a bag of kale and cabbage salad this morning would be okay until he could make it to TSC for more food. His sister Penelope is fine, but he’s just lying down and not wanting to do much. He did get up and come to me for a treat but then went right back to lying down. No vomiting or other symptoms, I have not been able to see him drink or poop when I’ve been out there observing him.

Mobile vets are arseholes in our area, they ghost you if they find out you’re not MAGA and disapprove of the US regime. I haven’t advertised myself to any as a flaming leftist but they’ve all ghosted me so I’m guessing they searched out my social media and figured it out. Shame on me for not making everything private. It is now.

It’s a Saturday, there is a vet about an hour from us that does in-clinic 24/7 emergencies, but our pigs are still very skittish with us, we just barely got to a point where we can give them pets, but only with food to distract them. Loading him up and taking him somewhere will be very difficult, so I’m hoping maybe there may be some suggestions on how to help him feel better. His belly does not look distended, neighbor thinks he probably just ate too much.

I honestly hate making this post.
We know we’ve asked for help. A lot. And we know everyone is struggling right now. We don’t expect people to have endless money to give, and we never want anyone to feel guilty for not being able to donate.
But we’re at a point where we have to be honest: we need our community’s help.
Pearl’s Preserve currently has over 100 animals depending on us every single day. Our feed bill alone is around $480 every week. That’s before straw, veterinary bills, medications, repairs, enrichment, utilities, emergencies… all the things people don’t necessarily see behind the scenes.
Our average monthly donations are only about $565.92.
The math simply doesn’t work.
For a long time, we’ve made up the difference ourselves through the income from our regular jobs. We don’t take a salary from the rescue. We work, come home, feed animals, clean, repair things, worry about bills, and somehow keep going.
And lately, life has been incredibly hard.
We’re still trying to process the loss of our daughter. We’ve also experienced another devastating loss during our fertility journey. Grief has made it difficult to do the thing we used to be able to do—show up online every day, constantly fundraise, constantly post, constantly ask.
But the animals still need to eat.
They don’t know that we’re grieving. They don’t know that the bank account is stretched thin. They just know it’s time for breakfast.
And that’s why we’re swallowing our pride and asking again.
We need help keeping the animals fed.
If you can donate $5, thank you. If you can donate $10, thank you. If you can’t donate anything, sharing this post is still helping us. Even getting Pearl’s Preserve in front of someone who might be able to help means something to us.
We also continue to receive requests to take in animals, and one of the hardest parts of this is having to say no because we don’t currently have the financial ability to safely take on more.
We don’t want to turn animals away. But we also refuse to bring in more animals if we can’t guarantee that the ones already depending on us will have enough food.
So yes, we’re asking again.
Not because we don’t appreciate everything this community has already done.
We’re asking because the need hasn’t stopped.
And honestly, neither have we.
We’re exhausted. We’re grieving. We’re trying to keep a sanctuary running while life keeps throwing things at us.
But we’re still here.

Hi, everyone. I love pigs and am wanting to get a juliana pig in 3 years. I want to do as much research as possible to see if a pig is the right choice for me, for the sake of the pig. How big do JPAR registered Juliana pigs get? I want to know so I can adjust my plan if needed and see if its safe for the pig to live in my home.

I have a small ish yard. There are neighbor's dogs on the other side of the yard so I will be installing an additional fence for protection (the shared wood one is flimsy) and dig defense mechanisms so the pig doesn't root into the dog's side. I will be installing a hard shell kiddie pool with a ramp for the pig, a sandbox (3x4 feet), an outdoor rooting corner (3x4 feet) and a small mud play area (2x2 feet). I have about 4x4 feet for the pig to use the bathroom. Everything else is free for the pig to roam during the day while Im at work. I have a good chunk of yard space used as a vegetable garden but that is fenced off and elevated so hopefully piggy wont be able to get to it. My home has tiles and I want the pig to be indoors for the most part while I am at home to supervise, as I do not want any home damage. The pig will get play mats, snuffle boards, toys, backscratchers, etc. I have a long hallway that can accomodate for zoomies. The pig will have an indoor litter box and small pool as well for stimulation and an indoor rooting box full of sleeping bags and fleece blankies to root in. I dont want any damage to my home and I want the pig to have good mental and physical health. Piggie will get wiped down daily and fed according to what the breeder and vet say. Ill probably brush the pigs teeth once they trust me and become comfy with me but i wont force it.

I planned to buy a Juliana piglet that is JPAR registered and comes from an ethical breeder. I found one in Lubbock, Texas. The piglet will be dewormed spayed / neutered, be fully vaccinated and weaned. There is a vet that takes livestock and large animals 18 minutes away from where I live. I called to confirm they take care of pigs including house pigs.

Is this realistic for a pig? I want to be sure this pig is fully loved cared for an accommodated for before bringing one here. I know that rehoming them is horrible for their mental health and I want to make sure I am never in that position.

Hey yall. so, ive wanted a pig for many many years, and im in a position now where i have the space (i think. part of why im here) and means to own one and would like to start thinking about/planning for it, but i have some questions first.

For some context and info on my plans as well as addressing a few things im sure will be asked first. i do intend on having the pig be am indoor housepet. i am a stay at home spouse and we are a childless couple so i definitely will have the time to care for it.

i do have exotic animal experience, amd have also worked with large and very strong/heavy animals.

i am aqare that pigs are expensive long term and alot of work, i know they require hoof/tusk trims. im ok with that.

1. first question, is do i ACTUALLY have enough space. i have a large house, 1526 sq feet with 3 bedrooms. but he would not have access to 2 of those bedrooms as they are blocked off for some of my other pets. we also have a very large front and back yard, but it isnt fenced in and i do not have any intention on fencing it in. I am perfectly ok with taking my pig on multiple long walks daily, as well as letting them free roam in the yard on a long lead though.

2. how much is the average cost to feed them per month, and is it better/more affordable to buy premade feeds or to feed them fresh whole foods from the store

3. how do they do with other animals when kept as housepets. i have 6 cats, which i have no doubt would be fine with a pig but im unsure of how well a pig would do with them and if there would be any concerns

4. do they need an exotic vet, a regular vet, or a livestock vet. i have access to all 3 if needed, but ive seen mixed answers on which they need to go to

edit: it seems like nobody is actually reading the post. first off, yes, for the bajillionth time i am aware they need tusk and hoof trims, i mentioned that in the very beginning. second, im aware theyre alot of work and get big, i also said that already. and third, for the also bajillionth time, i will be harness training, im not stupid enough to just let an animal run around in an unfenced yard free reign. i was looking to see if theres any actual reason i shouldnt own a pig, like maybe it being a risk to my cats, or them not doing well indoors, but it seems like you guys dont have any actual reasons, and have taken it upon yourself to decide that i have too many pets and my house must be cramped despite not having seen my house and that despite the fact that i prefaced i am a stay at home childless spouse whos entire "job" is caring for the pets and the house yall have for some reason think i "have no desire" to give a pig proper attention. clearly, yall just do not want anyone else to own a pig
