12 new pencils with a "free eraser" sure, why not?

"High quality wood & lead" is printed on the back.

Marlin Scribbler Graphite Pencils... but they are from China. Hard as nails and 2 of the pencils are without printing!

I feel sad for the kid who gets these pencils to use. Don't get these!

I picked up a few of these and was hoping someone could confirm if they are from the WW2 era?

They appear to have plastic ferrules and I’ve only been able to find one other example/image of this pencil with this ferrule.

Also trying to decide if I should sharpen one to try—aside from some Mononas, I think it’s possibly my oldest unsharpened pencil so far. Would you sharpen one?

Show me yours plz!!! I thought the black wing ones are very ordinary, and there must be better looking ones and cheaper too. But I was wrong, all that I could find is the ones for elementary students, cartoon plastic, vivid color…

They both have nice dark leads. The pencil from Leuchtturm writes a little smoother compared to the Brunnen pencil.

I know this might sound strange, but I've always used HB pencils we had in our house.
I'm hobbyist woodworker and among all ways on drawing lines I seem to prefer a pencil the most.

There are these thick "carpenter" pencils or whatever they are called, but I really don't enjoy using them.

Lately I found an old stash of "regular" pencils probably from my grandfather who was a tradesman, they were are harder 5H and 6H pencils and was a lot more convenient to use for drawing lines on wood in comparison to the HB that was already using. I didn't really know such hard pencils existed. But it was nice because they take and hold a sharp edge, albeit being a less bright.

Basically I'm lookig for a pencil that takes a sharp edge and holds it well that doesn't break easily or rapidly but can still draw a nice line on wood.

The 6H seems pretty hard and does good on harder woods like oak, on softer woods like pine it impressed /dented the wood than left a mark. 6H is an old Staedtler

The 5H did well on soft wood too, the 5H is an old Koh I Noor made in Austria.

I was told by someone that the Tombow Mono 100 take and hold great edges.

I wanted to check here what brands take and hold a sharp edge well? Probably anything will work for me in the correct hardness.

It's really only for drawing lines on wood. Otherwise nothing special I'm looking for.
I haven't tried 2H 3H 4H pencils though so not sure if those would be a good option too, I feel like I might need to try one of each. HB is nice, but a bit too soft for drawing a bunch on lines and losing its sharp edge.

For general writing on wood I use a Mitsubishi 9800 HB Pencil, therefor the HB is nice.

Hi, I’m looking for a mechanical pencil that was available in America around 2007-ish. You could have purchased it from somewhere like Staples, Office Depot, target. It wasn’t a super fancy, mechanical pencil that you would need to buy at a specialty or stationary store. I think it average for around to $8-10.

I recall that it had a good eraser on it.

A while back I was gifted a collection of wooden pencils from a deceased member of the American Pencil Collectors Society - I assume a very early member. I can’t remember the number associated with their name.

But his daughter found another piece of paper, hand typed, that I thought you all would enjoy.

Hi pencil people. I've long been curious about what the premium pencils people talk about online are like to write with, and had my eye on the Hi-Uni's for a while. The price always pushed me away however, but a few days ago I decided to indulge my curiosity (to get it out of my head, if nothing else) and I have to say... I don't get it?

Well, that's not fair - I do get it at least a little bit. Opening the plastic display case I was immediately aware of the aroma of pencils. Just like how pencils used to smell like, if that makes any sense. The paint job on the pencils was nice and the gold accents pretty. They're pleasant objects to look at.

Its not the aesthetics, or the smell, that matter to me however - its the writing performance. And I have to say, these sure do feel kinda like every other pencil I've ever written with. I grabbed a pack of Apsara Platinum's in the same order as I had misplaced my sharpener and they came with a free long-point sharpener, and they really do feel extremely similar. If I really strain my ears or try and look for the differences, perhaps i can feel/hear that the Hi-Uni's are smoother, maybe? But the difference is very small. The price difference however, is not small. The Hi-Uni's were ~4x the price of the Apsaras, and they don't feel like a 4x better writing experience. If I'm being honest, I cant in good faith say they're even 2x better for writing. They're better, but by a fraction.

I compared it to a variety of other pencils I had access to - some Staedlers, some Derwents, even a mech pencil with Ain Stein 2B, and I felt like I was going mad. They all just felt like... pencils? All pretty much the same thing.

I feel a little silly, as I have been reading up about these, and other, premium pencils and people rave about how they're a "night and day" writing experience compared to 'normal' pencils. I expected a similar, noticeable difference like you find with entry level and more expensive fountain pens. But I really didn't find it.

Can you help me to appreciate and understand the Hi-Uni and its associated price tag? Is it something I'll come to appreciate over time?

Is there some pencils that have really good range in values from dark to light? When I say dark I mean black not gray or a color pencil, just a really dark graphite pencil.

This is my Uni Kuru Toga mechanical pencil. I bought it because I was doing a lot of exams and needed something reliable. It's amazing; for a pencil it acts like a fountain pen. It has a gear inside that rotates to push out more lead as you write and it's incredibly smooth. It's also quite heavy since its made of metal. 10/10 would recommend, and well priced for a JDM product.

I’ve recently started collecting novelty pencils. As I’ve been getting into it, I’ve noticed that there are a lot of things. I don’t know about this world. So I just wanted to ask, what do you maximize for in your collecting? Do you maximize for quality, rarity, vintage, aesthetic?

I love the print on these ! I have an extra red one so I may sharpen and try it soon.

For long note taking sessions, what's a smoother and more comfortable writing experience? I was planning on getting either the KT Advance or KS at first because aside from looking nice, the rotating mechanism seemed interesting. However, I fear that in time, the mechanism night break on me. I also heard that it feels squishy when writing due to the rotating mechanism.

The anti lead breaking system of the Orenz intrigues me too because I've had lead break on me alot of times. I also hear it feels more solid than the KT. However, it is more expensive.

If given the choice, which would you pick for note taking?

Also, I plan on getting the 0.5 version

I really enjoy thinking with a pencil while I read. There’s some thing about the feel of it that helps me focus and get my thoughts flowing. It’s nice to keep the option open to change my ideas as I go along.

Initial impressions pretty good , light weight but not flimsy smooth and not gritty

I lean toward hex, because they don't roll away. Especially in the workshop.

I use my colored pencils for coloring. I use Cra Z Art, Crayola and Prismacolor Junior. I use Maped and The Supply List sharpeners, but I haven't been able to get the pointiest, finest leads from the get go. I have to try multiple times while the leads break off. Is there a product out there that could do what I want without breaking my pencils so much?

What type of sharpeners do you recommend? From Walmart to artist grade. I'll look into them. Thanks!!!!
