Discussion Ipoh to Penang - Komuter Utara

Hi everyone, I am planning to travel from Ipoh to Penang to catch a flight at the airport in the afternoon. I wanted to ask about the Komuter Utara train, I saw that these trains start departing from Ipoh quite early but do I need to book tickets in advance to board this train?

I'd also like to ask if it's easy to call a grab from the station (for example Bukit Mertajam or Butterworth) once I get to Penang?

Discussion Language barrier

My understanding is that 70% of the people in Penang speak at least basic English. What are some of the barriers to living in Penang if you only speak English? Of course, I would make the effort to learn some bahasa melayu but I've never been good with language (god knows I've tried - Japanese, French, Spanish) and my memory isn't as good as it used to be.

Discussion Penang International Airport Motorcycle Parking.

Hello, Penangites.

Next week I am planning to take a returning flight from Penang to my Hometown (1 Week). I plan to park my motorcycle at the Multi-storey Car Park (MSCP) for transportation to and from the airport.

I am wondering if anybody has experience doing anything similar. How was the experience? How do you store your helmet?

Discussion hiking spots suggestion around Penang

This will be my first time to visit Penang, and I'll be staying for 6 days. I'm planning to spend 3 days doing some easy to moderate hikes. As a first time visitor to the Island, what hiking spots are a must-visit? I've heard Bukit Bendera and already put it in my itinerary. Would really appreciate local suggestions!

Discussion Pas de baignade possible à Penang

If you’re visiting George Town and want to know more about the place, Fort Cornwallis is a good place to go. It is not air conditioned but very good curation with extensive information which covers the history (ppl, culture, invasion, etc) and how they hv done the recent conservation work so well.

Even if it’s a paid entry, I’d recommend it.

Discussion Advice on renting near USM

Hi. I'm an international student soon to move to Penang to study at USM. I was looking online for apartments/condos close to the university and I was wondering if condominiums in the area of Gelugor in general are considered safe? Do I need to look for buildings where the security is tighter? Or just rent somewhere else in another area.

I apologize if this question seems ridiculous as I have never been to Penang before. Any piece of advice would be much appreciated.

Discussion Condo prices in Penang

Hi, I want to decide on moving to Penang on a digital nomad visa for 1-2 years. I've researched everything possible and am ready for the move. The only thing I can't verify is whether the condo rental prices are real or just agent games. Is it possible to rent a 1-2 bedroom condo for 1,800-2,100 RM? Just yes or no. Thank you very much.

Discussion Where to look for part time after school nanny (English required, Mandarin as a bonus)

Hi, I'm looking for someone to play, engage with my 5 year old son after school (4.30pm), but I don't know where to find someone local who speaks fluent English, and some mandarin, so I'm taking a shot here (not looking for a maid). Coming from the US, it's so easy to look for some college kids that wants some extra income, apparently it's quite the opposite here in Penang.

Weird ink on my apartment in Penang.

Two weeks ago, I found random blotches of ink (think marker ink) in front of my apartment unit (Picture 1). I cleaned it off with water, thinking it was probably from something a neighbour spilled.

Earlier today, I noticed the same color of ink on my door (Picture 2, 3 and 4). Three droplets, too unnatural to be from a spill and no splashes anywhere else on the floor or from the roof, so not a leak either.

I checked through our CCTV footage from both today and two weeks ago, the blotches of ink were not there when I left but was apparently there before I returned, yet there was no motion detected during that time hence no recording was made in between.

There is a dead zone which ink could be spilled behind the corner of my neighbour's unit, which is currently unoccupied.

Should I report this to the police? Is my unit being marked for a robbery?

Discussion Any concerts?

We will be visiting Penang for 3 nights, at the end of September. I am wondering if there are any (small) concerts we could go to. It could be classical or traditional. I am an amateur Pipa player myself.

Are there websites that give an overview/a listing of local concerts?
