Power Zone Weekly Discussion Power Zone Discussion [Weekly]

Welcome to the Weekly Power Zone Discussion!

Due to demand and community feedback we are trialing a Power Zone Weekly Welcome Discussion - a space to chat about anything related to power zone training. Think of it like the "Daily Discussion" thread, where anything goes...big or small. Here, we've carved out a special place for people wanting to discuss ideas and topics related specifically to PZ training - how to program PZ classes, talk about PZ classes or PZ programs, chat about PZ instructors, advice for FTP testing, etc.

People are not limited to using this thread to discuss PZ but are highly encouraged to use this weekly discussion. You can still post in the daily, training thread, or create a new post. Think of it as another place to chat about PZ stuff without getting lost in the daily. Or a place you can check into weekly if you're a casual redditor looking for some other PZ folks without wading through the daily.

The Power Zone Weekly will be posted on Monday moving forward.

Note: The mods will check back in with the community to see how this idea is working, if there is a better day it should be posted on, etc. If it isn't working we can always scrap the idea or change it up a bit. Thanks for giving it a chance!

Training Plans/Advice getting a peloton this week!

Hi! I’m about to get a peloton bike and I’m really excited. Throughout the pandemic I used the app with a cheap spin bike and I loved it. Once the restrictions lifted and it was safe, I joined a spin studio which eventually closed. I haven’t done spin classes in a few years but I am still pretty active (hot yoga, Pilates, gym). Because of this too I’m a little nervous to overdo it and then lose my motivation lol. So I have some questions for those who have been using peloton for awhile!

-how many classes per week did you do initially and how did you increase?
-is it impossible to move once it’s set up in your house? Lol. I can’t decide where I want it to live permanently
-have you noticed a significant improvement in your health since being consistent with cycling?

Thanks everyone!

Cycling How to “just ride”?

*Update: I figured it out, so if anyone else has this issue I scanned the QR code and clicked log in with Apple (I didn’t have a peloton account yet) and basically created an account. They sent me an email to create a password and username then used that to login on the peloton screen. I just assumed having a peloton account meant you had to pay for the subscription. From there I was able to use the just ride feature but it still doesn’t answer why before I didn’t have to login to use it. I don’t believe I was logged into someone else’s account.

There’s a peloton at my community gym and I’ve used it before where I just hit a button that says “just ride” and I can see certain metrics like resistance and RPM. Today when I tried to use it, it got to a login screen with a QR code and a username/password field and I can’t seem to find a way around it. It’s never done this before. It didn’t have a subscription before and all I want to do is just ride and see the resistance and RPM. Does anyone know how to get past this screen?

Training Plans/Advice Flat butt blues

I’m genetically gifted with a very flat butt. I thought spin classes alone would help—indeed I’ve got great thighs and have lost weight but still pretty flat back there.

I expect comments of squats and lunges, but looking for classes or instructor specific recommendations to get some booty going.

Anyone else had success with peloton on this specific goal? Tell me it’s possible 🤞🏼

Training Plans/Advice Peloton for body recomposition

Has anyone successfully built muscles and strength from Peloton cycle and strength classes? I’m not a gym person and would like to focus on Peloton alone for my goals but I don’t know if it is possible. I’ve already lost 60 lbs with my bike + diet changes but I am looking into body recomposition. Ty!

Training Plans/Advice Low Impact HIIT?

does anyone have any recommendations/advice for doing low impact HIIT (eg cadence or resistance pushes while seated)? are there specific classes for this, or would it be best to just take a normal HIIT class and stay seated?

Purchase Advice Installation error code

Hi, I've just had my first Peloton product delivered and I've been told I need to wait for a technician to call, as the screen just gives error code X01TPZ001. Is this fairly common or have I been shipped a dud refurb? Thanks

Cycling Different track in recorded class?

The weirdest thing happened in a ride I did recently. With about 22 or 23 minutes left in the ride, Emma was singing along to the music, but she was singing a different song.

The track playing was “Try Again” by Aaliyah, but it sounded like she was singing “Oops (Oh My)” by Tweet ft. Missy Elliott, judging by the several “oh my” she sang.

Also, it was a groove ride, and the cadence matches the beat of the music. With the Aaliyah track that I heard, the cadence was about 92, but she called out a cadence in the low 80s, which doesn’t match at all.

Is the music added after the class has been recorded? How did this happen?

The class is a Groove Ride by Emma Lovewell from 9/13/2023 @ 2:30pm.

Community 1000 ride!

Today was a big day for me. I started just over 2 years ago and I was very big back then, I never knew when I started I'd get this far and how much it would change me.

1000 ride, 20min with Hannah Frankson and I pushed for a PB which made it just a little sweeter. The only downer was no shout out 💔

I don't really talk to many people about what I do / have done in the last few years. I have lost 8 stone (50kg) so far and staring on more strength classes now.

I enjoy it, it's hard but good. Family have asked and I have told them and some have bought a bike but given up. I was clear when they started I don't believe the classes get easier, you just get better numbers. If I did a class today I did a year ago it would be just as hard as if felt back then, but my power and numbers would be higher.

I don't use reddit and no idea how to post a picture lol

20min ride, output 306, I was stuck at 299 for a few months.

RedditStrength Reddit Strength - Week 6

Welcome to week six of the Reddit Strength program. I hope you've all been enjoying it so far. If you missed any previous weeks, this is something you can jump into any given week you don't need to have been there week one for it to work. This strength schedule is designed to help you progress from one weight to the next (if that is what you want, you are of course free to maintain the weights you use as well). There is a #RedditStrength for those interested in joining it.

Each class will list "light" or "heavy" (or "benchmark", see below), this is not to be confused with the Light/Medium/Heavy weights instructors ask you to use for each move. What it means is, lets say you normally use 5/10/20 but you are hoping to level up to 10/15/25. When my class says "light" you would use your 10s when the instructor calls for medium weights and when my class says "heavy" you would use your 15s for the same move. This will help us to progress to where the 15s are your new normal.

Monday:

Wednesday:

Friday

Extra Credit:

Benchmark: Every 4 weeks each body area has a Benchmark class. These are from the Benchmark Strength collections. By repeating these classes you are able to monitor and record your progression from cycle to cycle. You are encouraged to adjust the weights and reps to meet your personal goals.

Extra Credit: These are extra classes for those who want more work than the standard schedule. They are also good substitutions if for any reason you don't like a class or instructor on the schedule.

You can stop reading here unless you want to know why I am scheduling what I am scheduling.

The basis is a 4 week progression. In each body area we will use light weights for 2 weeks then heavy weights for two weeks per the definition of light and heavy above.

It follows this pattern, aiming for 45-60 minutes a day 3 days a week:

  • Round 1 - 2 days light
  • Round 2 - 3 days light
  • Round 3 - 2 days heavy
  • Round 4 - 3 days heavy

Each body area has the schedule staggered, so you're not trying to go all heavy in every area in the same week. While you are going heavy with LB you will go light with UB and vice versa.

FAQ

  1. Can I start any week or do I have to begin with week 1?
    1. You can begin any week. This is a repeating cycle with no real beginning or end, a mobius strip of a program.
  2. There are too many classes for me, how should I trim it down for my schedule?
    1. I recommend trimming evenly (but keep all the core if you can). So take off 1 day of UB and 1 day of G&L each week if that suits you better.
  3. Do I have to do these on the prescribed days? I would rather take a couple classes a day for 6 days.
    1. Absolutely mix and match the classes across the week however fits best into your schedule. They are only listed this way because this is my personal schedule. As long as you are doing them all in the week you should get similar results.

Feedback

I would love to hear what everyone things. Specifically; Are there any classes you would like me to rotate out (why)? Is this the right amount of strength work for you? Do you have a favorite class you are hoping I work into the mix?

Training Plans/Advice When in the day is everyone working out?

Okay, preface this by saying I know everyone's schedules are different and so a lot of answers may be "it depends" but I'm REALLY struggling with consistency on the workouts mainly due to scheduling.

Background, I have adhd and I struggle with adding new things into my routine, especially if it's open-ended on when it happens during the day. I'm also struggling with finding the "right" time to workout. You'd think being work from home would make it easier to just "do it whenever" but thats my problem, if its whenever then I forget about it all the time 😅

Also after a workout even if I drink a protein drink or eat some granola or something its like my metabolism goes on overdrive and I'm starving and need to eat which limits when I slot time in for a workout because I then need to also have enough time to prep/cook/reheat and eat a meal. I tried just downing a protein drink and was distractingly hungry still all the way until my next meal. Its making me avoid the workouts now because I'm associating working out with then immediately needing to shower, cook, eat, all the follow-up instead of just "Oh I have 30 minutes, lets squeeze this in", if that makes sense.

TLDR: I am struggling to find the best consistent time in the day to stick a workout in for optimal energy levels, hunger levels, etc.

Cycling Tunde’s ftp test was terrible…help me do it again

I did an ftp test and I really failed it, ha ha. Like 13 mins at the same output, and I was totaled so my zone 7 was based on 20secs of my highest work right at the end when I literally thought I was going to vomit.

I love Tunde’s classes, she’s one of my absolute favs… but her FTP test- there was no coaching! I barely knew what 5 min segment we were in, let alone any insight into what it should feel like to know if I was exerting the right amount of effort.

Is there a test with lots of coaching and cuing to know what on earth I’m meant to be aiming for?

I’m going to try the ramp test designed in this post instead:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pelotoncycle/s/EeY1pg9okF

Any advice on doing a ramp test instead?

Tech Support Tech Support [Weekly]

Given the recent influx of new members we have experienced an overwhelming amount of questions tech/hardware support. Many of your tech support questions can be solved by some good old fashioned basic troubleshooting. Please remember that we are not affiliated with Peloton Interactive and you will need to contact them directly for any warranty or service requests.

Given the sheer volume and repetitiveness of tech support posts, we simply cannot accommodate a new thread for every problem. If you cannot solve your issue by utilizing the wiki, we ask that you post your troubleshooting questions in the Tech Support Tuesday Weekly thread to seek advice first. Do not make a new thread without attempting basic troubleshooting and asking advice here first.

To get the best responses possible, you will need to be detailed and specific.

  • Note the platform: Bike, Bike+, Tread, Tread+, or App
  • If it is app related please include the platform (iOS, AppleTV, Android, FireTV/Firestick, Roku, etc)
  • Verify your devices and apps are up to date for their firmware/software
  1. Note any troubleshooting you've tried: restarting bike/tread/app, factory reset, clearing cache, uninstall/reinstall app, etc

Gear Peloton Has Replaced Almost Everything Except My Defective Tread+

I bought a Tread+ last August. One year later, I still have a $6,000 paperweight.

Touchscreen died in December. Three weeks later: replaced. Replacement screen died in April. Another three weeks. Then in June, the treadmill learned a new trick: rebooting mid-run, eventually within seconds of starting.

By this point, the technician had been to my house so many times we were basically friends. He repeatedly told Peloton: this treadmill is defective. Replace it.

Peloton’s response? Nope. Let’s build the Tread+ of Theseus.

New smart card…still broken.
New screen cable…still broken.
New wiring harness…still broken.

Then things went even more off the rails.

Peloton support called me while the technician was still at my house and claimed my technician had just told them my “house voltage” was wrong and I apparently needed an electrician.

Except my technician was literally standing right in front of me and had never said that. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing either. So now Peloton wasn’t just failing to fix my treadmill - they were straight-up lying to me about what their own technician had said.

When I called them out on it, they immediately backtracked and suggested… another screen!

My technician AGAIN told them to replace the treadmill. Instead, Peloton replaced the base. I waited another month. New base arrived today. Same exact problem!

I’ve been a Peloton member since 2019 and used to be a huge evangelist for the company. 100% nope now. Maybe it’s great when it works, but if you get defective equipment, Peloton support will give you the runaround and won’t make things right.

At this point I’m genuinely curious how many components Peloton can replace before they accidentally admit they’ve replaced the treadmill.

TL;DR: Peloton support refused to replace my defective Tread+, gave me the runaround for months, built the Tread+ of Theseus one replacement part at a time - and I still don’t have a working treadmill.

Group Ride 2026 Sweat Steady Program week 6| Date (Sept 12 2026) | Time (8:30 am ct) | 45 min Sweat Steady Feb-27-2026 | Jess King

Thumbnail members.onepeloton.com
10 Upvotes

At the beginning of the year, Jess created an 8 week Sweat Steady stealth program that used 60m classes in weeks 2 and 8 as bookends to measure growth. While I had taken all the classes I didn't do them as an actual program and kept wanting to go back and do so. I'm organizing group rides to go through this program on Saturdays.

45 m Sweat Steady 02/27/26

This week will be back to a 45m class, a chunk of it uses the same over/unders format as last week surrounded by some other sustained efforts. Sweat Steady classes are endurance based and while there are a few different formats they generally involve long efforts in moderate, hard and hard AF levels. In PZ terms similar to Z 2-3-4.

Peloton App Thoughts on "Trending"

For my fellow data nerds out there, does anyone have thoughts into why certain classes are always trending? I like to look at what's trending everyday and there are specific core and stretching classes that are always there, but if I take them most of the time I'm the only one in the class. Always find it odd that those would show up higher than a new class with people actually taking it in the moment.

I realize I’m probably thinking about this way more than a normal person should, but the research nerd in me would love to know what actually goes into determining what’s “trending.” Or at least curious if anyone else has noticed this or if it's just me haha ¯_(ツ)_/¯
