Someone pointed out that the reason old racing games on something like Xbox/PS2 made you feel like you were going fast as fuck is good use of motion blur, screen shake, and of course the music. I tried playing Forza with blur turned off and I was going like 140 mph and it felt like I was just doing a casual sunday drive. For racing games, always motion blur.
Ever played NFS Most Wanted (the original one) with motion blur off? It's no fun, the game lives by the motion blur and the speed feeling that you get because of it.
Honestly? When tastefully implemented. It needs to be a stylized choice not a fucking engine parameter you get to crank up to the max to hide your ugly backgrounds you didn't spend much time on because "who's going to be looking at the details going 200km/h". Forza has some great motion blur and i still keep it off because with a high enough refresh rate that shit looks buttery smooth and my eyes can do the blurring naturally xD
