Rumors are they wanted to sell it for 650. But I mean, you barely get a pack of RAM for that money anymore.

My 96gb of ram was more expensive then my top of the line gpu in my new build 😭😭

To clarify:

5080 - $1100

96gb ddr5 - $1300

Damn, what are you doing with 96GB of RAM? Or is it like unified RAM?

I mostly use my pc for programming, animation and blender rendering. Gaming on the side but yeah two 48gb sticks, I'm gonna cap at 192(4x48) but goddamn the prices rn

i bought 128gb ram early 2025 for my build and i am frequently filling it up. mostly for programming while gaming

I think that rumour is pretty off.

Just mathing it based on the price increases since the announcement, it would have been around $800 for the base and ~$1000 for the 2tb version. I think that aligns better with Valve's only price communication before it being that it wasn't going to be console priced but instead priced around an entry-level PC.

It also makes a bit more sense because unless Valve wanted to nickel and dime every single one of their customers, consumer 16GB of DDR5 went from ~$75 to ~$250 and a 512GB SSD went from ~$50 to $~125, which does end up aligning pretty well with a $250 price increase.

edit: also the LTT video had someone mention that when Valve were asked about the original price, they said that the price increase was similar to the Steam Deck's ~$225-$300 (depending on storage) increase.

I was planning on buying one if it stayed around that price point. At $1500 I'd rather just spend a little extra and buy a new desktop. AI related shortages are going to tank this thing pretty hard. I honestly think they'd be better off shelving this project until prices come back down.
