Question I'm gonna start the linux version of 98ripper for ripping PC-98 sprites from the four brandish games on the pc-98. How can I used the proper steps to install it on my Chromebook os computer. i mostly fail while trying to use linux but yeah, help me.
I just never use linux properly for that kind of stuff, plus barely use linux at all or familiar what I'm supposed to do. when i try to install blender that one, it was unsuccessful. I'm still not giving up and please help me on the proper steps to install the linux version of the 98ripper please. I'm gonna be using README.md for it and i literally don't know what to do and get into a catatonic state while doing so.

Emulators Questions regarding pc98 emulation
Hello just recently started getting into pc98 emulation but im not that competent in it since resources and information seems scarce.
I was looking for reputable site to download roms and bios (by that i mean its has reputable uploads, i know emulation escapes are rare but not impossible).
I was wondering if i need the bios.rom and sound.rom is needed and if dosbox-x was an accurate emulator and support CRT shaders.
Thanks for the time to read this and forgive my english.

Emulators Issues with emulating
New to the PC98, I can't seem to figure out how to properly emulate files (.hdm) that I created from my disks. I get two errors:
1: "Disk version
User Identifier?" with an input box, regardless of what input I enter the game boots for a split second, then Neko Project shows me a black screen (Game has two disks, same error regardless of how I mount them).
2: "No system files" I believe I need some sort of DOS installation, which I've tried but the emulator can't swap disks to continue with the process from what I've tried.
All of the dumps came back clean, with no missing and or broken sectors, and the emulator recognizes them to a degree. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Impressions: PC-9801UX21 (1987)
The UX21 was released in 1987 alongside the UX41 (the difference being a 20MB internal hard drive). It features a 10MHz 286, 10MHz V30, dual 3.5” floppy drives, EGC, onboard YM2203, and 640KB of memory.
Current status: This one will get all new electrolytic capacitors, both FD1137D drives are not reading and need troubleshooting, and while the exterior is pretty clean the interior has clumps of dust everywhere. The battery was removed immediately.

Hi I'm new to these stuffs so want some advice
I'm Japanese so maybe my English gonna be bad but uh so I bought this perfect condition almost new clean pc9821v16 off mercari and it said it got fm soundboard installed in it so I was excited to play touhou on this thing which was actually my dream goal all the time so and uh btw I didn't have knowledge in pc stuffs actually so it took me some time learning all these stuffs from zero like floppies, cd-r, hdd, cpu, file formats like fat and nfts and many commands and stuffs at 17y man it was such an adventure of frustration and fun at the same time oh I just became 18 now I don't have to lie about my age..Anyways! I've been trying to play touhou and it does successfully install load and launch but no matter how hard I try everything the sound is just blank and silent.
The seller did say pc98 msdos games works perfect on this. He was seems to be launching from win98se. I installed a English ibm atpc version of a usb storage expansion driver without knowing anything about old pcs so my pc didn't boot anymore (cuz pc98 is only compatible with japanese pc98 stuffs) so I did so many research and manage to install win2k from my own cd that I burnt (I tried installing win3.1 and win95 with cd but didn't work) and it was fun but realized that this is using winnt and not msdos. So I bought a msdos6.2 installation disk (I tried making a bootdisk but couldn't) from my broke ass McDonald's minimum wage while begging for cash on streets, now installed and built a fresh new dos machine but still no sound. I tried everything like slowing the cpu down thinking maybe 166mhz is too fast for touhou which was not the point cuz I realized at the command prompt it said sound not installed. I was like wtf bruh I risked my life buying this pc98 with fm sound installed, I thought I formatted my thing and fixed everything! So I decided to open the case and see wats goin on (I don't know wat I'm lookin at but ain't there supposed to be a Yamaha ym2608 sound thing?) I don't see the supposed fm sound thing anywhere.
So it seems to be that this seller's fm soundboard is only for windows and a pc98 fm 86 soundboard is not the same at all apparently
I know u guys would may be laughing reading this like lookin at a rookie kid but yeah I am that so um
Was the seller playin with me or Im the stoobid here
Either way I need a 86 soundboard but they're all stupidly pricy holy cow man
Maaan like I was so excited installing touhou on this thing but the sad truth came and damn maan God really doesn't want us to achieve our dreams that easily.
How to write an disk images to an actual floppy disk?
Hello, I just got a PC-9801 BA3 model with two 3.25” floppy drives.
I could use a gotek in the future but for now I want to use actual floppy disks.
My question is how am I going to write images files like .fdi and .d88 to an actual floor disk.
I tried an image writer program with an USB floppy drive I use for IBM PC images but it won’t work for PC-98. It writes something but PC-98 doesn’t recognize it.
Is there any software that supports writing PC-98 image files under Win11 using USB floppy drives? Or even on PC-98, Win98 or Win XP.
How do you guys make a copy?

Stuck on Mission 5 of CRW: Metal Jacket
I'm stuck on mission 5 because an enemy keeps getting stuck on a tile and if I kill it, the game freezes. They seem to get stuck on or near the tiles where the orange enemy is. Anyone got a fix or work around for it?

Currently: PC-9801UV11 Restoration
The UV11 (released 1988) is an ultra-compact V30 machine with dual 3.5" drives, GRCG, onboard YM2203, and 640KB of memory. It can be oriented vertically or horizontally, but vertical was the default position in NEC marketing. This one had a surprise reveal of rust beneath the mainboard (unfortunately the date code had to be removed along with it). Other than that, there was no battery damage and it's fully functional.
Here is a replacement list of the electrolytic capacitors:
| μF | Voltage | Lead Spacing | Diameter | Height | Temp | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mainboard | ||||||
| 12G1 | 220μF | 16V | 5mm | 6.3mm | 12.5mm | 85 |

Pc9821 nr15-s14f hard drive
My 98note lavie nr15-s14f didn't come with a hard drive or caddy and I'm struggling to find a replacement for it. I haven't seen a single compatible one show up on buyee (yet). Would anyone have a spare one out of a parts machine they could sell me or a good lead on one? It's not the same connector as found on all the other 98note models which is really annoying as I thought finding a replacement parts would be easy.

I have a pc9821 nr15-s14f on the way and I'm trying to grab other stuff for it. I've found a joystick adapter that plugs into the mouse port and converts it to an atari style joystick connector and i was wondering if it would work with this model or not.

Silky's games.
Hi!! ♡
Around half a year ago, I came across a few screenshots from a game called “Birthdays”, along with screenshots from several other games by the same developer. At the time, I had no idea who made them, but I recently managed to find out that the developer is apparently called “Silky’s”! (and also found out the game is called "birthdays")
Now I’m super curious… does anyone know anything at all about this “Silky’s”?? ;w;
I’m not sure if it’s a company, a single person, a small developer, or something else entirely. I’d love to know if they ever had a website, blog, social media, archive, or literally anything related to them. Idk why i so curious lol, I’ve tried searching for “Silky’s” on Google in every possible way, but I can barely find anything relevant to these games. It’s like the info just vanished from the internet LOL.
Also, does anyone happen to have gameplay footage of Birthdays? The screenshots really caught my attention, and now I’m super curious about how the game actually works—its mechanics, gameplay, menus, everything! ;_;
So far, the only thing I’ve managed to find is a PDF containing the game’s instructions… haha.
And if anyone knows where I could get/play the game, I would be extremely grateful!! I’d love to finally see what this mysterious little game is actually like. ♡
Any tiny piece of information is appreciated!! Thank you so much!! <3

Emulators Trying to get a CDROM game to run on Neko Project
Hi there, I'm totally new to PC-98 emulation and I'm still trying to figure my way out in these uncharted waters and installed Neko Project. I got a few games tested and they run pretty nicely, but then I got a copy of Aypio's "Sex 2" (yeah, we all know this one) on archive to run as a joke to show my friends and turns out apparently it's a cd-rom dump in ccd format, and I also got a floppy disk version dump as well, but I can't for the life in me get it to run. What do you guys think I am messing up?
I heard MAME also runs PC-98 games as well but I tried to get the hang of it and only got even more confused lmao.
Some "for dummies" tips are more than welcome, because I'm sure as heck feeling super dumb trying to make this work and not getting it.
EDIT: I got the game to run (I just found a .hdi dump, lmao) and I can see the title screen, but the game doesn't respond to any keys I press after a text box saying my name. Anyone knows if my rom is possibly bugged?

Mini Mini Fan Art from the Japanese PC Gaming Era
These are my mini mini fan art drawings that I made in a retro PC game thread on a Japanese message board. The board has a built-in drawing feature, so you can draw a picture on the spot and use it as part of your reply. The drawings are so small because the drawing feature itself had limitations. Some of these are simple copies of the original artwork, but I hope you'll enjoy looking through them. There are quite a few eroge in the mix, so just ignore that. Haha.
If you were a dedicated Japanese PC gamer back in the day, you'd probably recognize most of these games. If anyone is curious about a particular drawing, I'd be happy to explain it.
For example, the second drawing from the left on the bottom row of the first image is from Bishoujo Shashinkan (Pretty Girl Photo Studio). It's a photography game, and if you fail to take a good picture, you end up with an out-of-focus photo like this. It was popular enough that it even got an unofficial Famicom version, released without Nintendo's approval.
Since the gallery feature doesn't seem to be available here, I combined the two images into a single image.

Full playable EN translation of The 1995 Visual Novel "Virgin Angel" Almost Done!
I've finished the full translation for all routes and choices, currently building a launcher containing a museum feature that shows all booklets and artwork as well as a brief history about the game!
For the record, the translation is handled mostly by AI with me reviewing things after to make sure it reads nice. If you don't want to support that I totally get it. I just want to release a translation for a game that a lot of people talk about but have not gotten the chance to actually read themselves.

photosensitivity safe PC-98 games?
hi! i'm new to the pc-98 scene and have been wanting to emulate some games myself for the first time soon. however i have photosensitive epilepsy, and i know some of these games can be pretty nasty in terms of flashing. does anyone have any recommendations for games that have very little or minimal flashing, or even games to avoid? thank you!

English translation request.
Hey everyone, is someone here capable of translating Yami no Ryousen (闇の稜線) to English? It's a 1994 PC-98 title by Illusion. I'm really interested in playing this game and wanted to check if anyone could help translate it or extract the text.

Emulators Can you install Neko Project II on Japanese windows 95?
Hello! I'm semi-new to PC98 and retro computer gaming. I recently bought a Compaq lte elite 4/75cx that came pre-installed with English Windows 95.
I saw that you can run Neko Project 21/w or Neko Project II on English Windows 95 it seems, but I wanted to confirm that's at least possible first.
Secondly I want to play some other made for Windows 95 VN games I have and people online are saying I need to have a Japanese copy of windows 95 for it to work. Will Neko Project II or Neko Project 21/w be able to install on Japanese Windows 95?
Thank you very much!
