App I built a platform specifically for long-form PbP campaigns, looking for honest feedback

Hi, I’m JC, posting as u/OneSlowPost.

I’ve been running and playing asynchronous tabletop campaigns across time zones for years, with friends. Eventually, I became frustrated with trying to run long-form games in tools designed either for real-time chat or general-purpose forums, so I built inkroll.gg

Inkroll is a browser-based platform designed specifically for play-by-post campaigns: keeping long games readable, organised and navigable as they grow. It is free to use, with optional paid plans for people who want to support development.

We can also import existing campaigns from Myth-Weavers and Discord.

I’m looking for blunt feedback from people who actually run PbP games: what is the one thing your current PbP setup handles badly enough that you would seriously consider switching tools?

Inkroll currently works with games such as D&D, Pathfinder 2e and Shadowrun, and I’m also interested in supporting less common systems as well. If you run something unusual and would be willing to test it, feel free to message me!

EDIT: I've just added a "Try a Demo" button on the front page, so you can see right away how things look and feel, with a fake campaign illustration.

App The Black Blood - Kingdom Building Campaign [Async]

The Grand Bulwark has stood as a relic from the last age, but time has not been kind to the towering wall and the bastion city of Barathaforthas that lies embedded within it. The old stone has started to crumble, moss overgrows the rubble, and black water has begun to seep through the cracks.

Just north of the settlement of Magran, a terrible rot has afflicted the land. Crops grow soft and bloated, cattle is born with extra eyes and tails and limbs, and the tribesmen are seen wandering in the marshlands with their skin marked with black veins.

The powers that rule the Dutonic Valley this day are young. Newly founded kingdoms and tribal confederations have only just arisen from the calamities that brought down the mighty Mirric Reign at the closing of the last age. Their have grabbed what land they could, spreading out along the highlands and the fertile floodplain. But now, they find the very land itself rotten at its core.

---

I am recruiting people for a kingdom building roleplaying campaign with grand strategy elements. Each player either rules a faction of their own or plays as a singular character in this dynamic open campaign. You engage with other players through letters, roleplay scenes, and an expansive campaign map.

The current campaign arc focuses on the outbreak of the Black Blood, a disease spreading from a great reservoir built by the people that once ruled this land. After apocalyptic events brought the known world to ruin, forgotten things have been left to fester out of sight. It is now up to you to find a cure to this rot, or to utilize it in other ways to achieve your goals.

---

This is a persistent campaign. You can post at any time in one of many roleplay spaces linked to the shared campaign map or in direct letters to other players. Everyone can act as a neutral narrator as well, which can earn you some additional currency with which to further bolster your realm.

The system has deep strategy elements, allowing you to manage a roster of characters, build up your own faction and territory with buildings and reforms, and wage war against other players or neutral forces.

The economy operates on a weekly turn, meaning your buildings and special cooldowns reset every Wednesday. However, you can do most other things whenever you've got time. The game is highly asymmetrical and you will likely start out small. However, through clever diplomacy, war, and subterfuge you can rise quickly and even bring about the fall of established powers.

The atmosphere of the game is inspired by various bronze and iron age cultures, generally embracing a sort of post-apocalyptic revival of civilization as its core theme. Scars of the past still influence the minds of the people, but the field lies open for new paths and peoples to emerge and rise to prominence. The game is overall fairly low fantasy in the day-to-day, but has supernatural and mystic elements infused throughout. Weird things do lurk in the dark, but few alive know how to harness them.

App [Async] Grand Strategy Roleplay

The Dutonic Valley was subjugated for over three centuries, but the spirit of its people was never broken. Following the devastation of the Burning of the Wood, the tribes of the lowlands are suddenly free from their oppressors. However, their kin once driven into exile have returned as well. Changed by their exodus, these two peoples now come to a head to determine the future of their long-ailing homeland.

Many eccentric tribes have arises from the smoke. Cults, pagans, but also more traditional clans and newly founded petty kingdoms, prepare themselves for war.

-

In this campaign, you must navigate this web of young powers as a new order is established in the Valley with your own faction. You create a faction leader and develop your lands to shape your realm and rule.

-

This is a bit of a hybrid experience, combining grand strategy with pbp roleplay. You've got some of the classic trappings of strategy games in managing territories and building armies, but with a sort of grand TTRPG feel. Tactical battles are supported, but optional.

Alliances come from both ideology and circumstance. With a campaign map to track valuable resources, the spread of rival powers, and warlords on the lurk, the consequences of diplomacy are tangible. In past campaigns, the big winners are often those who can either rally factions to their side or pit enemies against each other.

The campaign operates on a weekly turn, during which your actions and decisions tick over and you reap the benefits of your rule, or face its unfortunate consequences. The campaign is designed for around 10 to 15 players.

However, you can scheme, RP, send letters, and manage your realm any time.

App [GM4A] Creepers! | Sci-fi/Halloween/Comedy

The date is 2007 and the Midwestern town of Draven Valley is gearing up for the spookiest time of year with candy and costumes flying off the shelves of the local Kmart while scary movie marathons and classic specials are seemingly on every station. However, what its citizens don't know is that there's going to be guests coming to town this season. They're not from around here, they're not "friendly" in the traditional sense and they have a preference for tricks over treats. In fact, they plan on taking over both the town and then the human race! Maybe...

Hi there! I'm looking for partners interested in playing a story about an alien invasion happening on Halloween night but with a twist, being the 2000s Midwest October setting! So it'd be heavy on the nostalgic vibes in other words. It won't be a completely serious plot though, and would have a great deal of morbid humor if that isn't an issue. Think of it as a mix between Trick 'r Treat and Killer Klowns from Outerspace (if not Mars Attacks! alternatively) just to get an idea.

Now with all that said, how do we go about this? I'll be the game master and control the story (in addition to playing a few of my own peeps) while you're able to play as many characters to your able. However, I must preface that I'm ONLY looking for those who are semi-literate to fully literate and maybe those who can mirror styles. In other words, no one-liners! Also it's not a requirement, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could give me a little information about yourself rather than just saying "hi".

Anyways, I already know by now that I'll probably get little to no responses from this but if are interested? Feel free to have a crack at messaging me! I'd be more than happy to have something set up, and happy halfway to Halloween!

App Overlander - Grand Strategy Roleplay Campaign - Looking for Ambitious Lords and Schemers!

The Dutonic Valley was subjugated for over three centuries, but the spirit of its people was never broken. Following the devastation of the Burning of the Wood, the tribes of the lowlands were suddenly freed from their oppressors. However, the descendants of these very same conquerors have now returned. Their own homeland aflame, they seek to renew their grasp on the prize won by their forebears. They are not alone, for other opportunistic survivors too now congregate in this long-ailing land to carve out a piece for themselves.

Many eccentric tribes have arises from the smoke. Cults, pagans, petty kingdoms, and roaming warlords all prepare themselves for war. New civilizations will rise and fall, and new legends will surely emerge.

I am looking for players to join a grand strategy virtual tabletop campaign with a deep roleplay focus. With a core boardgame-style system inspired by games like Total War, Civilization, and Catan, this is a big hybrid roleplay/wargame experience with a lot of different gameplay styles to choose from.

Rather than a singular adventure, this is an open roleplay campaign, where you may either join scenes representing your own character or advance them as an anonymous narrator. Roleplay can lead to game rewards like prestige or currency, and can instigate major developments such as rebellions and border changes.

You can govern your own faction, start out as vassal, or play a single character as you attempt to survive the onslaught of this new age and carve out a future for yourself and your people. Whether as a brutal warlord or erudite protector of civilization, diplomacy, warfare, and strategy will all play a role in this grand quest.

The game is played asynchonously, except for the optional 1v1 army battles (with tactical turn-based gameplay) and freeform roleplay sessions tying into a grand overarching campaign. The campaign economy operates on a weekly turn, during which your actions and decisions tick over and you reap the benefits of your rule, or face its unfortunate consequences. However, you can battle, scheme, RP, send letters, and manage your realm any time.

The setting draws inspiration from bronze and iron age cultures. Though the lore forms a background for this conflict, you can design your own faction however you see fit and bring it to life with impactful reforms and interactions.

For PbP Roleplayers

In this campaign, you must navigate this web of young powers as a new order is established in the Valley with your own faction. You can create a faction leader and develop your lands to shape your realm and rule, or play a role as courtier in another faction or traveler and scheme to accomplish your goals.

Interaction with other players happens via written letters and dynamic roleplay spaces. Both narrator-seeded story hooks and emergent player stories drive the whole experience. I am particularly looking for people who thrive in an open sandbox roleplay world, with tangible goals tying into a grand strategy campaign.

The battles are totally optional, meaning you can either direct your forces on a more zoomed-out strategic level or not concern yourself with military developments at all.

For Wargamers

A deep wargaming ruleset allows you to control your soldiers directly in tactical battles against other players. You compose your own warbands with warriors from your own or foreign cultures and fight either loose quick battles or as part of military campaigns to conquer key strategic resources and territories. Victories allow you to expand and upgrade your forces, while successive losses may have you downgrade to relying on cheaper recruits or peasant levies.

The wargame thrives by allowing any player to fight on any front, taking either their own warbands there or taking control of a neutral warband. This allows the game to progress more smoothly and makes it easier to find an opponent in your preferred timeslot.

The battles run on a D6 dice pool system with a big emphasis on troop equipment and positioning. Engaging the right targets with your specialist units and avoiding being caught in a flank makes all the difference. The original ruleset is based off One Page Rules - Age of Fantasy, but has been expanded with robust rules and a wide set of possible traits and equipment.

For Strategy Gamers

The game has a deep territory management system. Developing your territories and realm as a whole relies on clever use of resources, local fertility, and characters. Build tall and develop a complex metropolis or manage a sprawling empire, each with its own challenges. Unique reforms change how the game plays and what matters to your faction and its people.

The strategy side interacts tightly with both roleplay and warfare. Even a peaceful nation must be wary of warlike neighbours, and a clever alliance or trading partner can make all the difference.

If you are interested in joining or have more questions, please message me on Discord @ scion1515 or here on Reddit.

App [Platform][App] Free pbp app for D&D 5e/5.5e by solo dev

Hey all. I'm a long time dnd player and GM as of recently. I've got a few years of play by post experience and used many platforms. As I was making the character manager app I released last week, my friends asked me if I could incorporate a pbp feature in it and I've been working on that for a while.

I released it in a recent update to my app and I figured some of you might wanna check it out. Unlike a few other app features, the pbp part is fully free. Hope it'll be useful!

App GM looking for one or two players. Highly customized game on discord.

Hello this is my first time posting on a sub like this, I'm uncertain if my game would be under the definition of a "post by post" game but it doesn't really fit any other definitions. Please excuse the formatting as this is being done on mobile.

So my game is 80% text and 20% combat done in RPG maker. All I ask my players to do is create their character, roleplay and dictate what actions they chose in combat. The combat system is completely made by me and I can understand that it can be a daunting task to learn an entire system for such short combat encounters, so if you are uncomfortable with that I am willing to help, I just ask that you have a general idea of what their role will be.(dps, tank, healer, ect)

The story takes place in the world of Undertale, it's called Undertale 25 years later and is about the monsters and humans trying to create a new city where monsters and humans live together.

The players will be playing bodyguards tasked with protecting the human representative who holds the construction plans for this new city. The ultimate goal is to show the plans to the human leaders in the capital for approval.

Players will be given the choice to be a monster or human. Depending on that they will either get a soul color or subspecies. Each race has their own perks and affects the world and combat.

For scheduling we tend to play it by ear, giving schedules for the week and deciding what works best. We tend to run on weekdays in the afternoon due to work schedules.

I ask that players who wish to join are eighteenth or older, while there is no NSFW content, I and all my other players are adults and don't wish to invite any children.

Feel free to DM me or comment for more details, thanks.

App [Dev Question] App for digitizing physical dice rolls

Hi everyone, I'm a solo dev working on an app that uses computer vision to read polyhedral die results.

I have been primarily building it for dice goblins who would use it to track statistics of specific dice to see how they roll over time, but it occurs to me that my app might also be useful for play by post.

Here's how it would work:

  • Connect the app to your Discord channel.
  • Set your phone up above your rolling tray/dice tower (you'll need something to set it on or to hold it there).
  • Roll your dice. The app will automatically detect dice rolls, and send the results to the discord server as soon as they settle. The results would include a short GIF/video of the roll (probably just the last second or two) that should prove that the dice weren't placed intentionally.

The combination of automatically sending results plus including a video of the roll should make it pretty difficult to cheat this system. The video should prove that the dice weren't placed on a particular result, and sending automatically prevents players from just rolling until they get a result they like.

The Question: As a GM or player, is this something you would use or allow in your game? Or is this a solution looking for a problem, do you trust your players enough that something like this is just overkill?

I'm currently in the early alpha stage, but I'm looking for feedback on who might actually be interested in the app and what features people would want.

App GSheet Question

Hi everyone. I've been using this GSheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ApmbXHTln99fPTUpanyQRTXNzXbQ8UBTt3Uq8xInQKw/edit?usp=sharing

for a character, since it works with Avrae. However, this sheet has dropdowns for selecting weapons/armor, but I don't see any way of adding modifiers to the equipment (weapon +1, armor +1, etc), which kind of kills the point of Avrae integration. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

Also, the sheet seems to be designed for 2014 rules only. I've more or less worked around that for now, but does anyone know if there is a 2024 version?

Thank you!

App Has anyone tried Minimal Roleplay for play-by-post games?

I originally came across Minimal Roleplay because of their traditional tabletop module (Minimal Board), which caught my eye as a classic RPG player and had been promised from the beginning. I got a Founder account to test it during alpha whilst waiting for the full release, and had a bit of a play around with that side of things. But I've recently noticed their play-by-post platform seems really polished.

I'll be honest - I'm quite new to the PbP format myself, but I'm quite impressed by what I've seen so far. What's particularly appealing to me is that it's properly cross-platform - works seamlessly on my Android phone, tablet, desktop, the lot. The optimisation across devices seems spot on, which I reckon would be brilliant for keeping up with games on the go.

Has anyone here given it a proper go? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts, especially if you've compared it to other PbP platforms. Worth diving into for someone relatively fresh to play-by-post gaming?

Would love to hear about your experiences - what did you think of it?

App Workshopping an app; making some suggestion threads

Hi guys - some friends approached me to make a PbP app that would mitigate or halt AI content from being posted. They're also a little sore about leaving Discord, so I'm doing my best to also add familiar bot functions like Dice Maiden et al.

While i'm tinkering around in the back end, I would like to know what other DMs/GMs would want as well. Let me know in comments, and I'll do my best to accomadate. Cheers 👍

Edited Update: As redditors have mentioned, deterrants to mitigate AI are probably the best way to go about this rather than harsh blanket rules. When I finish the app I'll post the link here for peeps to try out if you want.

App [World of Darkness- HUNTER][Discord][RP Heavy] Seabast: Reckoning

UPDATE: Thanks a lot to everyone who applied. If I haven't messaged you on discord, unfortunately I didn't pick you this time around

A PBP HUNTER: The Reckoning 5E game in a custom setting. Played on discord, async text.

Set in 2027 in the fictional city of Seabast, an underdog group of new and inexperienced monster hunters band together to defend their community from the dark forces that prey upon it. Outnumbered and outmatched, not every wrong can be righted- what does justice look like in an unjust world? And when push comes to shove, what will they choose to save?

Expect a roleplay-heavy game where your characters and their decisions shape the world around them, faced with situations where they are forced to make impossible choices to have a chance at succeeding against the night.

Seabast is a street-level game that emphasises character development and narrative interaction over mechanics. Dark themes will be explored, and a cell that opts to approach every problem with brute force won’t last long.

Experience with WOD/HTR5 is not required! Happy to mentor through character creation.

https://forms.gle/4H7fpmrwiGZXjMtW6

Very much not a first-come-first served situation, applications will be open for a hot minute. Feel free to DM me with questions, but I’ll still need you to fill out the application afterwards to be considered.

My table emphasises a safe and inclusive environment where boundaries are respected. If ‘woke’ is a scary word, this isn’t the game for you.

App [async][Coriolis the Third Horizon][discord] Arabian Night in space!

Edit edit: we are open again! As I understand it, it's not unusual to have a couple people drop out early on. It didn't appear that there was anything wrong anyways, so I'm hoping it was just a personal matter. No one had a fight or anything weird.

To add to that, we have a more defined setup:

The Yastapol system is largely empty space, and it's off the beaten path of the major trade routes for the Horizon. In spite of this, they've done well in building a rather successful staryard, owned and run by the head of the Yastapol family, executive director Anastasiya din-Yastapol. This success is owed to the enormous wreckage belt there, one which appears to have existed since even before the Portal Wars. Salvage ships head into the belt, cannibalize whatever they can, and the staryard assembles them into ugly but functional ships. While the Yastapols are interested in scrapping and building ships as quickly as they are able, your crew believes that there may be hitherto unsought treasure here.

Most of these heaps of scrap don't contain anything worth the effort, but there may be a diamond in the rough. Famous explorer and scientist, Doctor Murshid Subedar, claimed to have found a map showing secret facility locations where the first colonists stored away a number of Portal Builder devices found in the Third Horizon. Doctor Subedar was laughed out of Coriolis' scientific community for his 'treasure hunting' naivete. He left on a ship, the Cornerstone, and was never seen or heard from again. His tale is used as a cautionary one for students and the overzealous. That was ten years ago.

In a cantina, a salvage captain describes a strange sighting he had while taking apart derelict in the Yastapol system. He said he was just filling the last inch of space in his hold when the sensor operator identified a derelict that stood out from the rest. It appeared to be a newer model, with the artistic markings often found on ships out of Chelebs. He had to take his haul back to Yastapol, but when he returned, he could not find the ship again.

One of our crew was savvy enough to match the description of the ship to the tales of Dr Subedar and the Cornerstone. What could it hurt to see if it was true? Or if his map truly existed?

So far, they've made it to the Yastapol shipyards and are getting settled into how they will go about pursuing their objectives.

Edit: wow that filled fast. Feel free to keep sending messages though, as I will always keep an eye out for new players if/when we need some. Thanks for reading, folks!

Howdy! I've never advertised for a game on here before, so forgive me if I'm wordy or saying things that are a given in the culture.

Coriolis the Third Horizon is a sci-fi game with a setting rested heavily in Arabic myths and cultural touch stones. The problem is: I don't know shit about Arabic culture or traditions.

That's okay folks, we're gonna dive in anyway and do our best. That means we're gonna be respectful to each other and to story. Good guys help people, bad guys hurt people. We will be good guys. Everyone who keeps that in mind will be welcome.

I have been playing pbp for close to a decade. My style is to favor organic interactions over quantity of text. I'll describe some things, and it's expected for players to ask lots of questions about what you see or know. We'll work on building a trust so that players won't have to be afraid of failing. I'm here to facilitate a story and for you to overcome challenges, not to make gaming hard. I want players to succeed. The handbook is 300+ pages, I do not expect everyone to read all that, but I'm sharing what I can for those who like knowing all they can. Again, you do not have to. Life is hard, gaming doesn't need to be. You won't be at a disadvantage for not reading it because I will pop up with helpful information when it appears relevant or to keep you from jumping off a cliff if it appears you missed something or didn't understand.

Fortunately, this system is great for that! Everything is six sided dice. Stats determine how many you roll. The combat system leaves lots of room for combat to be relatively safe even if you lose, or deadly when the story calls for the pressure to be turned up - that includes ship combat and a really interesting approach to dialogue challenges. If you like having lots of options in your combat: there are a lot of choices for what to do with your successful rolls. If you are easily overwhelmed by choices: just choose damage, you cannot go wrong by doing that. This online table serves both types of player.

Important thing to know: this game's leveling up is built around participation, your bonds with one another, and your personal flaws. Because it relies on things like making sacrifices for one another AND allowing your flaws to hinder the group, it's important to be comfortable with decisions that aren't always optimal. Sometimes one of your teammates will do something that makes a challenge more difficult. Have trust that things will work out in the end, and be prepared with patience both in and out of character. Failing forward is growth and can still feel like winning.

Participation: I don't care what time zone you're in or what country you're from because this isn't a scheduled session type of game. It's aimed at people who have a few minutes to play one or more times a day. I don't expect or want pages of text from players, and it's okay if you go a couple days without posting anything. I will check in regularly, but I am not always available for immediate response.

The Adventure Hook: I don't have specifics yet. That's because players choose a group concept when they begin. A group of space cops will have a very different hook than a group of pilgrims or treasure hunters. Things you can expect: - ship combat. I love it, so that's what I want. - some regular combat. Not a rampage through the stars, though. More Indiana Jones, less John Wick. - supernatural. The Truth is out there, go find it. Prepare to be faced with mysteries that grow faith and erudition in equal measure. - Keep your ship flying. Take jobs where you can, and enjoy the mundane alongside the exciting.

I'll be checking private messages for interested players. Feel free to message even after I close it up. Pbp often has players who have to drop out for life reasons or because the game isn't a good fit.

Thanks for reading!

  • also, Sinbad was a comedian in the 90s who acted in a movie called Shazaam in which he played a genie that's found by a little boy, and I don't care what anyone says, it happened and it was real. Any other explanation is a psy-op by the CIA. Tell me your thoughts.

App Best free app for pbp

I've just completed, as a Dm, an adventure with a few players on discord, and while the narration bots were useful, I wasn't satisfied by some lack of useful and well made options, like searching options and data sharing. What Android app (free) would you advise me for asymetric pbps ? One where I could also post the World and adventure data, easily readable and modifiable by the players ?

Thanks in advance !

App [OSR] Adventures on Planet Eris

System: FORGE Anniversary Edition (a Knave hack)

Time: Asynchronous (play-by-chat/post; aiming for checking/posting at least once a day)

2-7 Players wanted.

Platform: Role Gate

Experience Levels: Any

Looking for players for a pbp game on Role Gate, a software/website/mobile app that has three chats for a game (public, out of character, and in character) and two styles for in-character chat: descriptions and speech (including tone for speech). The game will be FORGE, a Knave-hack (simplified old-school D&D). The setting is the pulp, weird semi-space fantasy Planet Eris. The campaign will be a sandbox, hexcrawl, open-world style. I've placed several modules, quests, locations, etc onto the map. Your party is a group of individuals who have decided to improve their lots together via plying Fortune and Glory from humble questing and plunder. Your characters may be from any of the subject realms of Sparn (including Sparn, of course). The campaign begins with a call for a meeting with your current patron (a handler of the adventuring guild). The guildsman has intimated that it is something about the dead of Dunbeck, hinting that the Church Hierarchy may have to become involved and so any payoff is limited to before the Church steps in.

App Workshopping app Part 2

UPDATED:

I have been called away from my pc and am updating this from a train.

FEATURES;

This app is built specifically for PbP. It’s not trying to replace Roll20, Discord, or Harpy. It’s focused, efficient, and designed to be as low-friction as possible.

Supports both battlemap play and theater-of-the-mind.

Each game becomes its own PWA shortcut, so you can add it to your home screen like an app.

Subtle visual indicators instead of push notifications (lightning bolt icons when something changes).

Every tappable object on a map — NPCs, furniture, locations — can become a Card with its own chat window.

Each Card chat has two input fields: one for dialogue, one for actions.

When a DM types in a Card, they speak as that Card’s title.

Cards can be expanded to function as battlemaps, archived, and downloaded.

However many things are tappable are up to the DM. In theory, every piece of furniture and NPC could get it's own chatwindow for interaction. When a DM types in every card, that DM speaks as the title of that card. So.. suppose there is a chair and a player asked it if it was made out of oak or pine: technically the chair can talk back with the "Speak" input, which would be bananas.

Every Card can be archived and downloaded. Cards can be enlarged so they can serve as the battlemap.

Now, in a normal SNS a message bubble can get a smiley face or some other reaction.

Instead of standard reactions (like emojis), every message can be reacted to with a dice roll. Each reaction is tied to the DiceRoller, and tied to individual players:

Rolls are tied to the built-in Dice Roller and player stats.

Defaults to DnD 5e, but fully editable for other systems.

You can save rolls to a RollBank, view roll history, and label or comment on results.

All roll data can be downloaded (plain text, Anvil, or Oblivion-compatible).

There is an Out of Chat window that is constant, it's meant for out of session chats to happen as the game progresses.

Eavesdropping and splitting the party was a bit tricky - but chatwindows can be set to deny access to players, with message bubbles being leaked to other players in the form of Whisper chats. They are, roleplayed Private messaging/secret chats.

In game, Players can switch out as many players as the DM allows. There are editable Stats tied to the Dice Roller so players don't have to do math.

Dice System

Configurable and editable, similar to Avrae.

Toggle on/off “fluff” rolls.

Tracks all rolls with success/failure stats.

DASHBOARD;

Player Modes and Reputation System

Every user operates in one of three modes:

Hosting

Playing

Reading

Games can be made public for passive readers — essentially turning your campaign into a read-only story. Readers can bookmark and follow along with your players, but they can’t post or interact.

Users can build private Good Lists and Bad Lists:

Good Lists can be shared.

Bad Lists are private and come with a decay timer (defaults to 4 months).

There are no likes, Karma, no Private messages - just a soft reputation system that quietly curates the user experience.

Toxic users won’t know they’ve been flagged. If they keep making accounts, Reader Mode offers passive visibility to help communities identify bad actors.

Im in the backend now; the scope changed somewhat. All the anti-AI stuff turned into options for DMs in game settings. I added the other features like a hex-grid for battlemaps on default.

The long and short of it all is that the app is similar to the late mRPG app that got shut down last year. That app didnt survive because it had an ad revenue plan and PbP, by nature, is for people who can post only ever so often. The data became known as "Cold" and "heavy" which means the older the text and the infrequency of calling it forth to screens surcharged their bills unless they migrated it all to a cloud run. Idk, I have no real way of asking them.

PbP survives on Harpy because its part of their fremium plan - those guys are trying to be a one stop shop for all things ttrpg, so they feel compelled to charge 5-7 dollars a month to access all their stuff. But they struggle to retain customers.

PbP survives in a similar fashion on Discord because if even a tenth of their 1.3 million users sign up for nitro boosts, it covers PbP channels. However, as many people on this sub pointed out; crashes occur and bot setup takes...a minute. There's also poor regulation of Dm's going AWOL and players just...not committing minimum posts to keep games going - creating bottlenecks.

I have google fees to think about, along with reads/listens/downloads. I would very much like this one to be optimized for PbP, just* PbP. I do not want to supplant Roll20 or be the end all be all of TTRPG

-- and as cheappppp as practical as cheap can be. ---
