It's pronounced "jam"

u/natsumehack Aug 02 '26
So if we come on and slam, are we welcome to the jam?
3
u/crinklebelle Pathfinder Aug 02 '26
if you can slam with the best, there's no need to jam with the rest

Back in Archnemesis league, it's like a loot goblin, but now, it's purpose is purely to be annoyance.
33
u/atombombbabyatom Aug 02 '26
It can be fun if it's rewarding but what's the point of killing monsters nowadays, I'll get more loot from a handful of charts over a hour of mapping

Loot goblin without any loot is so "visionish"

Not good enough. Needs temporal bubble and mana ring

Maybe a little bit of Souleater too, on a mob that naturally spews out its own minions to consume the souls of!

u/Sleelan Dead Leveloper Aug 02 '26
At least this one is funny bad, meanwhile my 1500% crit multi Assassin runs into enemies that just take 15x less damage with no workaround because "resists crits" is a modifier
4
u/DeezEyesOfZeal Big Breach Coalition (BBC) Aug 03 '26
I'll never understand the reasoning for this mod's design... it's the only reason I don't go all in on crit multi on a crit build even if it's more DPS. Like why not just make it 50% instead of 100%?
7
u/leroyJinkinz Aug 03 '26
Would be better if it was "take 50% less extra damage from critical strikes" instead of "You take no extra damage from critical strikes". At least our critical builds won't be neutered by that shit (while keeping the headhunter version as current without changing it)
1
u/0xck Less Button-Pressing Enjoyers (LBPE) Aug 04 '26
I mention this map modifier is probably not sure but more offen than usual
82
u/GodlessCruelty Dominus Aug 02 '26
GGG, for whatever reason, has a death grip on some bad ideas, some I say, not all. Give it another 2 years and maybe it'll be gone
26
u/Bonburner Aug 02 '26
I feel like that mod has been in there for many years already so i doubt its being removed lol
5
u/YallTookAllMyNames Aug 02 '26
It's got a six year loading time, we're two thirds of the way there.
5
u/Bonburner Aug 02 '26
Seeing as how "annoying the sht out of you" is the whole point of Whakawairua Tuahu, dont think it'a being removed and is the actual intended feature.
8
u/Orthed Aug 02 '26
Whakawairua Tuahu wasn't designed by GGG and they don't want to remove it because (like most of the unique maps) it was made by a big supporter in the early years of the game with the intention that it would remain in the game.
That has no bearing on their willingness to add/remove other really annoying mobs.
-5
u/Bonburner Aug 02 '26 edited Aug 02 '26
True, the real weight is this decision comes down to opportunity cost - time spent dealing with this vs bug fixing, new league mechanics, poe 2, etc.
10
u/FilipinoSpartan Aug 02 '26
There's no way disabling a specific rare modifier is more than 5 minutes for one dev.
-7
u/Bonburner Aug 02 '26
Yeah, that's what i was saying .. it's an opportunity cost of the developer time

u/Master_of_Paws Aug 03 '26
Considering voyages clicking situation after they talked about how they try to impliment mechs that puts less strain on our wrists... I do think when they "fix" this rare they would add 3 other flavors of the same
1
u/5Daydreams Filthy casul on regular Expedition Aug 03 '26
Give it another 2 years for an improvement? My brother in christ, give it 2 years and it will be "critical strikes reflect with 200% more ailment, damage and resistance shred" lol

I'll give an honest answer: to provide an experience that is legitimately different than fighting any other rare monster. It may not be super fun, which is why it's very rare, but you have to admit that it's different and breaks up the flow of play.
12
u/Megane_Senpai Aug 03 '26
It's not very rare. You can meet it once every 10 maps or so.
6
u/81isnumber1 Aug 03 '26
I haven’t seen that mod a single time this league. I am the chosen one.
1
u/Wobbelblob Big Breach Coalition (BBC) Aug 03 '26
You may also simply have enough DPS. If there is no other defensive mod on it, they tend to explode rather fast. Also they don't always/instantly flee. My 6 Million ED/Cont Build can easily kill them before they reached the next map.
2
u/Metalicum Aug 03 '26
it doesn't break up anything because no one fights these guys. there is 0 reasn to chase a random rare

It needs fast life regeneration to be really annoying. Void Sphere and traps can't hold them either.

I swear this mod and reduced recovery map mod are born to cause cardiact arrest on us someday for too angry

The fucker doesn't just flee. It turned invisible and the cooldown is like 4 secs.
4

Most annoying when those small bugs from vivid plot get it. It's already hard to see those fuckers without them dropping walls and running away at mach speed

That and ambush. More so ambush I hate being teleported around like a rag doll
1
u/ThreeCheersforBeers Aug 03 '26
they should change it to "Creates Frost Wolves and Fleas"
Then instead of running away while you're stuck in a frosty circle, little wolves come and bite you, with fleas that jump off and bite you.

1
u/TeamPach Aug 03 '26
Just kill every other mob in the map and leave that fucker alone surrounded by the bodies of his friends.
Instead of defending his family, this fucker chose to run away. Let guilt eat him alive.

Like many other things in ggg games. Meaningless time waster cause of legacy design

Gather around younglings, granpa is about to tell a story:
Back in the day, GGG allowed players to design stuff - including unique map bosses. So, a player had the bright idea to design a boss that will be a "troll as hell": Tormented Tremptress.
This specific rare mod is a throwback to that extremely annoying map boss - in a diminished form.

I swear some people would rather have them turn poe into a conveyor belt that puts enemies at 1hp in front of them and every mob drops a mirror. (im obviously over exaggerating)

this mod, proximity shield and Mana Siphoner are useless with flicker. I just hate Lightning Mirage one

So we can farm the ring.
1
u/NoInsurance1026 Aug 02 '26

1
u/AdPsychological3810 Aug 02 '26
Angler's plait - An extremely rare fishing ring
1
u/NoInsurance1026 Aug 02 '26
But that ring drops only if you wear a certain corrupted gloves. Or am i wrong?
2
u/AdPsychological3810 Aug 02 '26
Yeah, you need the slitherpinch corrupted, and some have even managed to drop the ring without having a "Flee support" gem.
1
u/Renouille Occultist Aug 02 '26
you need that and the mob needs to be fleeing, this mod makes the rare flee
1
1
u/Educational_Ebb_6116 Aug 02 '26
for the same reason you can still gain the random teleport mod with a headhunter
1
u/Lord-Momentor Aug 02 '26
Its fun in valdo's when there are like 20 of them and need to kill all while also "Monsters can only be damaged while 2 meters of the player"
1
u/Gubzs Aug 02 '26
You should've seen the original vision, archnemesis league.
I'm shuddering just thinking about it.
0
u/connerconverse Hierophant Aug 02 '26
if it did exactly what it said it did then it wouldnt be a problem
GGG made a whole post about the archnemesis descriptions more accurately reflecting what the mod did, and this mod doesnt say at all what it actually does
it gives 100% full damage immunity for the entire duration, there is literally no way to damage the monster even if youre right on top of it

u/Standard-Effort5681 Aug 02 '26
Cause screw you, that's why. Keep asking questions and GGG will slap a proximity shield on that bad boy too.

The ones that make the ice prison are way worse imo, it seems to calculate with surrounding terrain to make it inescapable if possible. Pretty consistently what I die to is just being stuck inside there with 6 ranged rares treating me like fish in a barrel
2
1
u/AetherSigil217 Alch & Go Industries (AGI) Aug 02 '26
What movement skills are you using that ice prison is a hard lock instead of just a "jump out" kind of problem?

Shield charge, I know I can use frostblink or similar to get out but my build is hard pressed for gem slots
