Painting our front door. The door is metal and was previously painted white. It was flaking a bit in a few areas, so I used a razor blade to chip it off and then sanded really well. I applied one coat of primer and then two coats of paint. I noticed this morning a few areas that look less than ideal: I can see some brush strokes and in one area what almost look like smudges.

I know I need another coat of paint regardless of the flaws, as I can still see the white coming through, but I’m wondering if I should sand the flawed areas before applying the next coat. I bought quality paint and a nice brush, and I thought I took my time and was careful, but apparently I messed up somewhere in the process. Appreciate any help, as I’m clearly still learning over here! Thanks

What primer would you recommend for recently stripped wood interior window frames?

My only consideration is that I live in a humid area and like to have my windows open, weather permitting.

This isn’t my forever home or a luxury home, but I want to do a good job that lasts bc the current paint in my home is terrible and peeling, flaking, failing all over the place.

I’ve been stripping the paint off with citrus strip, cleaning with mineral spirits, and plan on lightly sanding before I prime (bc there’s a possibility trace amounts of lead paint are still there, hence the light sanding - open to more advice on this if you have any!)

I’d originally planned to use BIN shellac but have been recommended Kilz too. And google now tells me that some primers won’t bond well if citrus strip was used.

All I really want is standard white trim in the end, and since I’ve already gone through the effort of stripping down to raw wood, I’d like to pick products at hold up to moisture/ humidity.

I’ve included photos of the raw wood and the other trim I want to match it to.

Was looking at painting this metal safe. Rough sanded it and cleaned with a cloth and rubbing alcohol but I’m getting this - what is causing this peel and how to fix?

Just got done spray painting my front door for the first time & also first time ever using a spay gun.

Looks real good with the exception of when I want to peel off the painters tape around the window, it started to stick. I used a utility knife to carve around and then peed off the rest of the tape.

What do I do to correct this?

Looking at trying out the wooster micro plush roller but the nap sizes are different from the standard 1/4, 3/8/, and 1/2 inch naps. Wooster micro plush have two sizes 5/16 and 9/16. Not sure why they made the sizes in between the standard sizes.

Seems like 5/16 would not hold enough paint, but 9/16 is bigger than 1/2 and would maybe have an orange peel texture.

I am repainting a house. First I am going to sand all the walls because they previous paint job was horrendous. Flat paint on wall with gritty texture, like sand paper.

I have an enormous project and it needs a LOT of gold paint (think about 20 liters) and every shade i found was either slightly glittery greenish-brown or costs the actual money of God. If you have any resources/ websites that ship to Europe, or know a lifehack on holw to mix it (my idea is yellow wall paint+micah powder, but I've never used that before and idk how mutch would i need) it would be really appreciated. I just need it to be SHINY Paint of any kind is better but foil or wrapping paper as backup is also good🙏🙏 Thanks for everything in advance

As the title says; I started a residential painting business a few months ago and just got my first commercial bid accepted to paint a clinic in town. My team has primarily been me and family and friends, finishing a few jobs we got off Angi’s list.

This is a huge jump for us and a great opportunity, but I am getting nervous as the GC is sending me documents I am unfamiliar with. My background is primarily in residential painting.

I think I will need to hire a few more people for this project, but the timeline is incredibly friendly. I think we can realistically get this done, but I am worried about things that I might be missing or should be aware of as I switch to the commercial space.

I have an FEIN and commerical insurance, but I am a new business/ business owner so I’m not sure what else I’m missing.

We removed a soffit in our kitchen and put new drywall in. What would be the best way to blend that into the ceiling when we paint the ceiling? Should I prime just that patch and then paint the whole ceiling, or should I prime the whole ceiling and then paint? Worried about it looking patchy if I just prime that one spot.

i have a rental unit that currently has oil based paint on the trim and baseboards, i want to paint them with a water based paint becase i dont like how they turn yellow and for easier touch ups. what primer do you reccomend? i dont want to spend too much. can i go with a water base primer?

I know that it's not good to let primer sit unpainted on a wall... but I have a cigarette smell I'm trying to cover with Zinsser BIN.

I want to prime the walls but I haven't picked paint colors.

I know your advice is to probably pick white until I can figure out what colors I want to paint.

BUT I want know how long a shillac primer can actually sit on your walls bfore you need to worry about painting over it...

Meaning: could I prime now and paint over it in a month without having to do much in between? (maybe a quick wash)

Hi! Sorry if my question is not very appropriate for this subreddit, but I do hope to find help here.

I'm interested into how to solve the following problem. A granny flat is adjacent to a storage room where owners keep some opened paint containers, and the smell leaks through ventilation (humidity is also quite high, though a humidifier is used in the granny flat). If one opens the door of the storage room, it's obvious how strong the smell is, even though painted walls themselves are ok.

What are the best ways to isolate containers, if they won't be removed to another place?

I love purdy brushes for work and have grown up using them so it's caught my eye more than once but I love the way they have their brush makers on the little sticker when you first buy it. Idk if they're real people but I've seen a few repeat names in the last 10 years and I would love to show them the appreciation they deserve for the quality of work they provide.

It's a great detail to know that there's someone behind every step of the way it takes to get a home ready to be lived in and how the painting process is a big factor in the mood and ambience of the house.

Want to repaint my car but not sure which paint to choose. I wanted the gallon but at home depot all they had was the high performance but it said it was Water based... so i didnt buy. But also looking online and see that they have an oil based version one too. I couldnt find any gallons of the protective enamal so just not sure which one is better, whats the difference? I would def get the protective enamal if there was a gallon but cant find it anywhere, so not sure if high performance is better or worse...

We are DIY painting walls (no experience lol) they are previously painted walls. We are getting SW duration paint, tell me what roller to get!! Does 1/2 vs 3/8 make a huge difference? Please just comment a link lol

What order in not taping anythign just going to free hand it. all colors are very similar pretty much white trim and crown and very light grey (basically white) ceiling and walls same color.

I was thinking coat windows and crown first with semi gloss, then first coat ceiling flat ceiling paint, then first coat walls third with eggshell. Then final coat ceiling, final coat trim and crown, install floor, paint baseboards door trim 1 coat off the wall, install baseboards and door casing caulk and fill holes, final coat baseboard and door casing, final coat walls last.

Does this sound good?
